The first BrooklynVegan Swan Dive/Barbarella Austin Day Party lineup announcement is here! (this is the first of three BV day parties happening at these connecting venues, but just one of nine total BV events.)

This one happens Friday, March 18th from noon-6pm, is co-presented by KF Records (Knitting Factory) and Partisan Records, and features an exclusive Austin day party set by Middle Brother (aka Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, John McCauley of Deer Tick, and Matthew Vasquez of Delta Spirit). If you want to catch them though, you better get there early because the entire lineup is ridiculous and 100% free, and it looks like this.....

05:00 PM J Mascis

STAGE 2 (Barbarella Patio)

I'm already exhausted (and we have three more similar lineups still TBA).

Note: We have Dolorean who is not to be confused with Delorean, yes that is Midlake up there backing the amazing John Grant, Jason Isbell will stick around to play with Middle Brother (like he did on their record), and yes Jonny Corndawg will be in the house.

I'm also happy to point out that, though everyone will sound great already, they are going to sound even better thanks to our official microphone sponsor Line 6, not to mention due to the help of the Korg keyboards, and Vox & Blackstar amps that we'll have on hand - all generous and much-appreciated BrooklynVegan show sponsors.

Also Note:

  • FREE Blublocker sunglasses to first 50 people in the door!
  • there will be FREE vegan Izzoz breakfast tacos while supplies last!
  • we'll have loads of FREE snacks courtesy of Sensible Portions!
  • we'll keep you hydrated with FREE Honest Tea!
  • you can keep your energy levels high with FREE Raw Revolution bars!
  • FREE Tierras organic tequila cocktails while supplies last!
  • more FREE food & DRINK details TBA!
  • and there will be awesome giveaways from Partisan & KF Records
    throughout the day!
Thanks also goes out to our sponsor ASCAP, everyone else that helped make this happen, and Zach Jaeger of Tonally Dude for creating the sweet poster you see (with a bunch of videos) below....

AgesandAges

Tim Perry, the singer and songwriter behind the local band AgesandAges, has started a cult. You can join, but first you've got to drop out of society.

"The whole album is about willful isolation, a voluntary detachment from the rest of civilization," Perry says. "But it's as much of an effort to bring people into the fold as it is to keep it isolated."

Also of paramount importance is commitment. "If it makes sense to you, then let's do it full force, but don't muck up the path with negative rhetoric or with your physical presence."

Despite the tone of separatism that serves as the album's theme, the delivery of the 12 songs on AgesandAges' debut of brisk indie-folk, "Alright You Restless," is actively sunny, inducing an "Up With People" vibe. Each song is presented like an inspirational manifesto echoed by a seven-member choir attesting to the message." [Oregon Live]

Portland's AgesandAges's new LP was just released on 2/15 via Knitting Factory Records. Check out their new video for "Navy Parade (escape from the Black River bluffs)" below.

The Northwestern band is hitting the road with Olympia, Washington group LAKE for a North American tour in middle April and will descend upon NYC for two dates later that month: April 29 at Knitting Factory with Iowa's Paleo, and April 30th at Mercury Lounge with Sea of Bees. AgesandAges will also be representin' at SXSW (exact dates TBA).

Deer Tick @ Prospect Park in August (more by Chris La Putt)
Deer Tick

This Halloween Deer Tick will be performing at Brooklyn Bowl and like you (presumably) they'll be going in costume - the band will perform as the Sex Pistols for the night. Joining them will be a "special guest" band playing the songs of Sonic Youth and Dangerous: All Metal Tribute to Michael Jackson. There's free admission with a costume. Otherwise it's $5, and tickets are on sale at noon.

Deer Tick play the Partisan Records tour, which kicked off Monday, Oct. 19th and includes a CMJ showcase at Bowery Ballroom on October 22nd (now sold out unless you have a CMJ badge). The entire Partisan Records roster (minus one) are along for the ride. That includes Chris Denny & the Natives, who are playing the BV day party at Pianos earlier that day (Denny just interviewed Ben Nichols of Lucero right here), Holy Sons (Emil Amos of Om), Dolorean (not to be confused with Delorean) and (on half the dates including NYC) Paleo. All of those acts are included on the free sampler from the label posted above.

All tour dates, a Halloween show poster, the sampler tracklist and updated Deer Tick tour dates are below...

Deer Tick in a sombrero on a boat (pic by Katie Alexander)
Deer Tick

Deer Tick played a boat on September 7th (Labor Day). More specifically, they played a Rock Off Concert Cruise with opener Jonny Corndawg (an old friend and fellow songwriter f Tick frontman John McCauley). Videos from the gig are posted below. Earlier in the weekend, Deer Tick played a set at The Positive Jam in Ithaca...

True-to-heart American music with a kind of dark poetic twist, Deer Tick sounded like the bluesy rock that fuels long nights at the bar talking about your true love, the job you lost, etc. Far from being a stereotype, however, John McCauley's slightly nasal, drawling voice gave new meaning to any preconceived ideas about country or folk music. The audience, which on Sunday was slow to get going, lingered in the shade during Deer Tick's set. Their lyrics encouraged a slow roll rather than rambunctious dancing -- "I've lived lies all my life / and I've been living here a long, long time / And it's been coming down a while now," Cauley sang in "Art Isn't Real." Introspective, indeed. [The Cornell Daily Sun]
Coming up, the band have added a week-long Partisan Records tour to their already-extensive upcoming dates. The NYC part of that tour will happen as part of CMJ at Bowery Ballroom on October 22nd. Deer Tick share the bill with Christopher Denny, Dolorean, Holy Sons and Paleo. Tickets go on sale Friday, September 11th at noon.

Christopher Denny is the latest addition to the Partisan Records family, and was recently seen actually on stage with Deer Tick in Prospect Park.

Holy Sons is the solo project of Emil Amos of Om who are also playing Bowery Ballroom in October.

Boat cruise video and all tour dates are below...
