Pete Doherty has recorded a tribute to his friend Amy Winehouse (who died in 2011), titled "Flags Of The Old Regime," which will be released as a single on March 9. Produced by Stephen Street and swaddled in strings, it's gorgeous and rather heartbreaking. (He worked similar wistful magic on his great 2004 single "For Lovers.") All proceeds from the single go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation. You can watch the video, directed by Katia deVidas, below.
As mentioned, The Libertines reformed this year to play London's Barclaycard British Summer Time concerts and now the band have announced that they're back for real, having signed with Virgin/EMI with a new record in the works. The above picture is of the band signing the deal, which happened in Thailand where co-frontman Pete Doherty is currently in rehab. (His troubles with addiction are long and storied.) From the band's Faceboook:
Today we signed a new record deal with Virgin EMI Records on Ko Si Chang Island. It's going to happen. After everything we have been through The Albion sails on course again, and we couldn't be more excited. This signals a new era and a new beginning for The Libertines. This will be the first album from The Libertines since their self-titled second LP in 2004. Sean Lennon & Irina Lazareanu @ Milk Studios
...according to Sean Lennon and model/musician/birthday-girl Irina Lazareanu who brought up their sadness at Pete not being at the party multiple times throughout the night. Sean said that Pete made it as far as JFK, but was met by cops who forced him to turn around and fly home.
Irina Lazareanu, Adam Green & Charlotte Kemp Muhl
The party was hosted by Irina Lazareanu (both Pete and Sean's ex girlfriend) (she was even engaged to Pete). Irina, in addition to chain smoking, performed with Sean, Sean's current girlfriend and bandmate Charlotte Kemp Muhl and Adam Green (and Adam's girlfriend (?) Cory Kennedy who played tambourine on a song). Pete was supposed to be a part of the supergroup too. They said they rehearsed with him in mind (at which point Sean said he could now get metal and they played a Sabbathy tune). They also played an Adam Green song, a Bob Dylan song, the Twist, and some other stuff.
Sean, BP Fallon & Lenny Kaye
BP Fallon opened the show both as DJ and then as frontman of his own band that included Lenny Kaye on guitar and Sean Lennon on drums. Not counting the photo of Leigh Lezark on the wall, that they were supposedly selling for charity, I didn't see any Misshapes there (they were also on the flyer). Paul Simon and Yoko Ono, both rumored as unannounced guests, were nowhere to be found either. Someone told me Bruce Willis was there, but I didn't see him. Oh yeah, and Adam Green had a black eye. More pics and stuff coming later.
UPDATE: Two videos below...
Seems unlikely, but that's what they're claiming.

Sex Pistols @ Live at Loch Lomond, Scotland - Aug 3, 2008 (mdj)
Is John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols on a mission for as much press as possible? If so, it's working. First came the incident with Bloc Party's Kele which also involved the Foals and which Lydon denied has anything to do with racism. Since then:
The Sex Pistols demanded a fence be erected around their toilet at a music festival last weekend. The punk rockers reportedly didn't want to share their private toilet and asked for a high security barrier to keep people out at Scotland's Live at Loch Lomond festival. Frontman John Lydon - also known as Johnny Rotten - was also said to be incensed when he realised electro band Autokratz were being driven around the event in a better car than his band, and demanded the vehicles were switched. Autokratz singer David Cox told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "The Sex Pistols had two Land Rovers to ferry them around the site but Johnny seemed to prefer our car.Clever. And:
"So he made us take all our equipment out so he could travel 40 metres in it."
Once the switch had been completed, John allegedly shouted: "Autokratz, as we have taken your Auto you are now just Kratz."... [New Zealand City]
[Lydon] addressed the racist row that he was caught up in over the last 10 days when he sang a song about Allah and Jesus. He sang: "Allah be praised, George Bush be erased. Hello, Allah. Hello, Jesus too." He then told the crowd: "That is a little challenging to some of you. "So just in case you missed it the f****** papers had the f****** liberty to call me a racist. "I say hello, Allah. I'd like to buy Allah a f****** good pint of larger." Rolling up his sleeve, he berated fans saying: "Are you our friends? Well then, drink your beer instead of throwing it, you f****** idiot." Johnny also had a dig at Coldplay, saying: "This is audience participation 100 per cent. We're the Sex Pistols, not f****** Coldplay." And Rotten had a pop at Happy Mondays. They were head lining the Good Vibrations stage while the Pistols were on the main stage. The godfather of punk said: "Is there anybody there? Is there anybody over at Happy Mondays? That's a shame.".. [The Daily Record]How punk. He also has beef with Pete Doherty, Amy Winehouse (the female Pete Doherty), and Duffy (the new Amy Winehouse). Those quotes below...
Last month, Roman Abramovich shelled out £185,000 each for Mercury prizewinners Klaxons and sexy Brazilians CSS to perform at his daughter's birthday. In February, a Californian computer-games tycoon paid £15,000 for an exclusive set in Pete Doherty's own, blood-spattered home. Mind you, the latter may have been miffed to hear that, a few weeks earlier, Doherty had accepted £100 from a regular dad to play at his daughter's birthday party.
"Doherty is a perfect example of how the private-gig market is shifting," says Richard Davies, a former music-industry executive turned internet entrepreneur, whose latest venture aims to make private-party performances from pop stars available to the masses. "At one end of the scale, you have your Dolly Partons and Celine Dions. At the other, which is still in its infancy, are cooler, younger pop and indie acts, who are obviously a lot cheaper." a catch up post....
Mandy Moore and rumored beau Ryan Adams were spotted shopping at Meltdown Comics and Collectibles and Vintage Gear Guitar Shop in Los Angeles yesterday.Winona Ryder has since moved on to a member of Rilo Kiley. Devendra Banhart and Natalie Portman could not be reached for comment. Check out more (not very nice paparazzi-style) pictures of Ryan, OR watch Scarlett Johansson sing Tom Waits backed by members of Celebration BELOW...
The awkwardly-paired duo fell for one another while working closely together on her album Wild Hope last year.
Angster-singer Adams has previously dated a slew of other offbeat brunette actresses, including Parker Posey and Winona Ryder.
This is the first time the happy couple has been snapped together because...well...photogs had no idea who Ryan Adams was until now! [FadedYouth Blog]
I have to finish what I started, and I guess that would be compiling the world's biggest collection of people dressed as Amy Winehouse for Halloween. I was already up to 92 pictures. By the end of this post you'll have seen another 166. Some are great, and more than a few paired Amy with her boyfriend Blake Fielder-Civil. This photo falls into both of those categories....
Even more looked less like Amy, and then there were many Amys that decided to hang out with Pete Doherty instead of Blake - a pairing that makes a lot of sense from the English musician drug addict tabloid point of view. This picture falls into both of those categories....
Pete Doggerty & Amy Doghouse
In related news,
After Amy Wino's hideous performance at the MTV Europe Awards last night, she was booed when she accepted an award for Artists' Choice. Pete Doherty immediately came to her defense. Then there was Amy with Lily Allen...
He was asked what advice he would give Wino, "I wouldn't give her any. She's fine. It's all bollocks. People should leave her alone. I went for a drink with her earlier today and she's totally fine. Perfectly healthy and happy.
"People are saying she's out of control, but she's not. She's a sensible girl and she knows what she's doing. She ain't doing nothing wrong." [dlisted]
and even Amy with M.I.A....
Now we'll get to more Amy's in a second, but first: To answer my own question, "no", Amy is no longer playing the MTVu Woody Awards or Saturday Night Live due to visa issues. Oh well - not a big loss considering how scary her last live appearance was. That video, and a zillion more Amy impersonators, below.....
"This weekend saw the Glastonbury Festival taking place but it also saw one of the wettest weekends that we’ve seen recently - it was p*ssing down quite a lot of the time. The result was that the Glastonbury site at Pilton, Somerset once again turned into a bit of a quagmire with ankle deep mud in many places. That however didn’t stop about 170,000 people enjoying all the music and other events on offer on the various stages throughout the site and there was something for everyone from all the latest hot bands to long-established acts like The Who – headliners on Sunday night."
