Radiohead

Like he did at Glastonbury and in the Basement, and like he probably will twice this week at Roseland Ballroom in NYC (and on Colbert), drummer Clive Deamer joined Radiohead during their performance on Saturday Night Live last night (9/24). Said Radiohead drummer Phil Selway back in June, "no, you're not seeing double. The doppelganger drummers are myself and Clive Deamer. Clive has long been one of my favourite drummers and so I was really excited when he agreed to perform with us. Hope you like what we've all done." Clive's credits include recording with Portishead and Roni Size, and touring with Robert Plant. Check out the two SNL videos, and some clearer screencaps, below...

Wild Beasts @ Highline Ballroom

Wild Beasts

Wild Beasts headlined Highline Ballroom on Aug 11th with Lone Wolf and The Kissaway Trail. Wild Beasts' record, Two Dancers is currently up for the Mercury Prize (the UK's album of the year), the results of which will be announced on September 7th. The show was one of a few US dates for the crew, and now the band is already back in their native UK preparing for a string of festival dates including the Reading/Leeds Festivals next weekend.

Lone Wolf, also from the UK, plays the Green Man Festival this weekend with Wild Beasts before heading out on a short UK tour with Phil Selway (of Radiohead). The Radiohead drummer is preparing to welcome a solo album of his own entitled Familial, due in the US on Nonesuch on Aug 31. Featuring appearances from Glenn Kotche (Wilco), Pat Sansone, Sebastian Steinberg (ex-Soul coughing), and more, the LP is currently up for preorder, and you can stream a few songs from it below.

More Highline pictures, WB's setlist, tour dates, and the Philip Selway stream is below...

Phil Collins

In the UK press today, there appeared some articles about Phil's physical state, with some slightly misleading headlines. Here, in Phil's own words, are how he describes his situation:

"There isn't any drama regarding my 'disability' and playing drums.
Somehow during the last Genesis tour I dislocated some vertebrae in my upper neck and that affected my hands. After a successful operation on my neck, my hands still can't function normally.

"Maybe in a year or so it will change, but for now it is impossible for me to play drums or piano. I am not in any 'distressed' state, stuff happens in life."

Phil [Collins]

In other drummers named Phil news, NME reports that "Radiohead drummer Phil Selway has announced that he is set to release a solo album."
Selway, who sings on the album, is currently in the process of recording the as-yet untitled record in his band's Oxfordshire studio.

He enlisted the services of Wilco members Glenn Kotche and Pat Sansone to play on the project, and multi-instrumentalist solo artist Lisa Germano and bass player Sebastian Steinberg have also contributed.

No release date or any more details yet. A video of Phil McKenna playing drums, below...
