King Krule at Glasslands in 2011 (more by Erik Erikson)
King Krule

Phantogram @ Bonnaroo 2012 (more by Dana [distortion] Yavin)

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

King Krule @ Webster Hall
Archie Marshall is an old soul trapped in a minor's body, a dichotomy made apparent on his terrific debut album, Six Feet Beneath the Moon, which mixes thoughtful songwriting with modern productions touches. Tonight's sold out.

Ida Maria @ Rough Trade
Norwegian singer-songwriter Ida Maria, once known for her wildcard electric performances, returns for her first NYC shows in some time. Will "Oh My God" still have the same punch?

Foley, The Dirty Nil, Shy Hunters, Tyburn Saints @ Glasslands
Tonight's finally the NYC debut of Canada punk rippers The Dirty Nil, who were supposed to play here in October but had to cancel at the last minute. If you like your punk quick and dirty, check this band out.

Phantogram, Until The Ribbon Breaks, Weeknight @ Terminal 5
While fans wait for Phantogram's new album, they can hear a few new songs -- like "Lights" from the Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack -- tonight at Terminal 5.

Sean Nicholas Savage, Zula, Regal Degal, Softspot @ Death By Audio
Prolific and a little eccentric, Montreal artist Sean Nicholas Savage mixes genres with abandon, as heard most recently on this year's Other Life, which came out on Arbutus Records (home of Grimes, Doldrums and more).

Dapwell from Das Racist (DJ set), The Kominas, Gandu Cirus, Ashni, Cerenkov, Gabe Merizalde @ Pianos
This is an afterparty for the South Asian Film Festival which is going on in NYC this week. Massachusetts band The Kominas headline, followed by a DJ set from onetime Das Racist member, Dapwell.

GOASTT (Ghost of a Sabre Tooth Tiger), Aaron Roche @ Union Pool
If anyone has a right to ape the psych-pop sounds of The Beatles it's Sean Lennon who does just that with his band Ghost of a Sabre Tooth Tiger who are now just going by the acronym GOASTT.

Elton John @ Madison Square Garden
With close to fifty years of pop/rock songwriting and a new album out this year that at least Rolling Stone likes, Elton John takes over MSG for what will surely be a night of hits.

Nothing Changes w/ Mueran Humanos, Reverso @ Home Sweet Home
South American synth-goths Mueran Humanos headline this week's edition of the popular late-night darkwave party.

O'Death, The Woes @ Brooklyn Bowl
Brooklyn's O'Death have been kicking for quite a while now, making their dark brand of gothic alt-country.

Occultation, Survival, Yautja, Razorheads @ Acheron
Occultation, the spooky rock/metal band featuring the guitarist of weirdo black metal act Negative Plane, kick off a week-long tour with a BK appearance alongside up-and-coming Nashville grinders Yautja and locals Razorheads and Survival (not the Liturgy side project)." Or something.

Big Terrific @ Cameo Gallery
Max Silvestri hosts the free weekly comedy show in the back of Williamsburg's Lovin' Cup. Tonight's line-up features Ali Wong, Andy Haynes, Phoebe Robinson, Chris Tellez, and Joe DeRosa.

Melissa Laveaux, Stranger Cat @ Cameo
Paris-via-Ottawa singer Melissa Laveaux comes to NYC to headline this show, and there's pretty great local support from Cat Martino's new electronic project Stranger Cat.

For all of tonight's shows, and tomorrow's, check out our full NYC show calendar.

AlunaGeorge / Todd Terje

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

AlunaGeorge, Supreme Cuts @ Bowery Ballroom
After an impressive 2012 EP on Tri Angle, a collaborative hit with Disclosure, and a number of other very catchy singles, AlunaGeorge brought everything together for their recently released debut LP, Body Music, which they're now supporting on their first North American tour. They're at Bowery Ballroom tonight, and will hit MHOW tomorrow. Both sold out. Polica collaborators Supreme Cuts open both nights.

Todd Terje & Lindstrøm, JDH & Dave P @ Brooklyn Masonic Temple
Norwejan's Todd Terje and Lindstrøm, each acclaimed in their own right, join forces tonight for a collaborative live set, their first time doing so in the U.S. The two claim to be playing it loose, so it could prove pretty cool. Tickets are still available.

The Sidekicks, Hop Along, Living Room, I Scream Sine Waves @ Saint Vitus
Ohio pop punks The Sidekicks are on tour and they've brought the excellent, powerfully raw indie rockers Hop Along with them. That tour rolls through Brooklyn tonight for a show at mostly-metal venue Saint Vitus.

Black Forest, Plates of Cake, Vulture Shit, Beasty @ Cake Shop
Do you like cake? Well then you probably should head to Cake Shop for Plates of Cake. What kind? How about a slice of Black Forest? Those are actually indie rock bands, not confections, but you can get cake there too. They don't call it Cake Shop for nothing.

Porcelain Raft, Rewards, School of Night @ Glasslands
Brooklyn-via-Italy electronic musician Porcelain Raft released his new album, Permanent Signal, a couple weeks ago and tonight is the official record release show. Also on board Aaron Pfenning's Rewards and School of Night (aka Darby Cicci of The Antlers).

Laura Mvula, King @ Le Poisson Rouge
Laura Mvula hasn't escalated to pop stardom yet, but she's got the material for it so we wouldn't be surprised if it's not long until you don't see her in venues as small as these anymore. The UK singer has an immediate pop appeal, but not without ambition and boundary-crossing, and her single "Green Garden" is pretty hard to get out of your head.

Infinity Shred, Tony Quattro, Black Dave, Yung Gutted, GirlBro, Ary, Kitty Gizmo @ 285 Kent Avenue
8-bit champions Infinity Shred release their new album, Sanctuary, next week (9/10) but are celebrating tonight with a slew of likeminded retro-futurists. You can stream Sanctuary's title track below.

The Mission UK, Light Asylum @ Irving Plaza
Take equal parts dour goth and cheesy bombast and you get '80s survivors The Mission UK who are playing their first NYC show in 10 years. Break out your long black coats and spaghetti western hat...tickets are still available.

No Age, Ornament, Regal Degal @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Noisy rock duo No Age are touring behind album #4, which Sub Pop put out last month, and tonight they make their return to NYC for a headlining show at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Regal Degal are worth showing up for too.

Empire of the Sun, Alpine @ Pier 26
s it an '80s fantasy movie? Ice Capades? No it's campy megapop band Empire of the Sun, whose second album, Ice on the Dune, manages an interesting feat: eliciting a nostalgic vibe without being nostalgic to anything in particular. If you're heading to this, get there early for fellow Australians Alpine who are pretty good.

Friend Roulette, Xenia Rubinos, Blanche Blanche Blanche @ Union Pool
Union Pool hosts a pretty interesting, diverse bill tonight with chamber pop collective Friend Roulette, boundary-pushing singer/instrumentalist Xenia Rubinos, and wacky psych poppers Blanche Blanche Blanche. If you like the weird mixed with the catchy, this is the show for you.

The Music Tapes @ 133rd St. Arts Center Lab
Before Neutral Milk Hotel heads on tour, Julian Koster is doing one last run of shows for his band The Music Tapes at 133rd St. Arts Center Lab. They play two shows today (2 PM and 7:30 PM). Free but RSVP is closed.

Full of Hell, White Widows Pact @ Even Flow Bar & Grill (LI)
Ruthless hardcore kids Full of Hell recently released their newest album, Rudiments of Mutilation; an in-your-face heavy album with hints of sludge and powerviolence that you know you just have to see live. Unfortunately, their current tour doesn't exactly come to NYC, but you can see them in Long Island tonight.

Radical Dads, who made one of my favorite albums of 2011, will release their second album, Rapid Reality, on May 21. Cover art, which you can see above, is by Brooklyn artist Dana Schutz. The album is a second helping of ultra-catchy, wide-eyed indie rock and you can stream its ripper of a lead track, "Mountain Town," below or download it from their Bandcamp.

Radical Dads have a few tour dates coming up, including a couple here in NYC: Cake Shop on March 30 with Takka Takka, Plates of Cake and Pre War; and April 10 at Death by Audio with Little Gold, Todd Killings and Heaven's Jail Band. All upcoming dates are listed below.

When underrated Brooklyn indie rock outfit Conversion Party disbanded last year, some of the members soldiered on to form Pre War who have been gigging and working on their debut album for most of 2013. Not dissimilar to their old band, Pre War's slack but groovy style will draw comparisons to various New Zealand bands and probably Pavement too ("On the Decline" it's hard to deny). While not groundbreaking, they are good songwriters which certainly counts for a lot. You can stream a few tracks below.

Pre War play tonight (11/13) at Cake Shop with Doron Sadja as part of the band's Tuesdays in November Residency at the Ludlow St venue. On November 20, they'll play with Little Gold and New Colossus; and on November 27 they'll share the bill with Plates of Cake.

Song streams and a video are below

"There is no way in hell that Bowery Electric wasn't breaking fire codes last night at DeVotchKa. WAY over the 108 person max." - Andrew St Clair

Devtochka played a last minute surprise show last night Bowery Electric in NYC. Opener Plates of Cake went on to a packed venue at 8.45 and, Toby says, "played a mix of their yet unreleased album as well tracks from the lead singer's two previous solo efforts." "Devotchka went on at 10PM. They played a mix of old and new music with each member of the band changing instruments between and even during songs. It was a real spectacle!" The show happened simultaneously with a Gogol Bordello show at Brooklyn Bowl. Gogol and Devotchka are currently on tour together. More pictures from Bowery Electric below...
