Marathon
Marathon

New York punks Marathon, whose lineup included two members that went on to form to Polar Bear Club (but both recently left that band), broke up back in 2006 after the release of their only full length (self-titled). However, after reissuing that album in 2013, the band have now announced two reunion shows in their home state. They happen in Brooklyn on February 28 and Rochester on March 1 (venues TBA) with No Trigger (who also recently became active again) and Fire When Ready (whose only album came out in 2005 and who also don't appear to have played live in a while). The shows also include No Way, Soul Control and Benny Beyond. Flyer and song streams below.

UPDATE: The Brooklyn date happens at Saint Vitus with Marathon, No Trigger, Fire When Ready, and No Way. Tickets go on sale Friday (1/24) at noon.

Marathon's made fans out of other punk bands in the area, including Banquets, who as discussed, play NYC on Thursday (1/23) at Saint Vitus with UnWed (mems. Hot Water Music/Small Brown Bike), Nuclear Santa Claust and Pagan Girls (tickets).

A much older New York punk band, No Redeeming Social Value, will celebrate their 25th anniversary with a show at Brooklyn's Grand Victory on March 29 with Yuppicide, Two Man Advantage, Last Call Brawl and DJ Spag. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Meanwhile, The Dictators NYC (Dick Manitoba's current version of The Dictators) will celebrate sixty years of Handsome Dick Manitoba on Thursday (1/23) at Bowery Electric with Threats and The Bullys. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Also at Bowery Electric is NYHC band Reagan Youth on Sunday (1/26) with The Memphis Morticians, Twin Guns, Emergency Break and Dust Angel. Tickets are on sale.

And one more Bowery Electric show is the one February 16, which is the NYC stop of Richie Ramone's (who drummed in the Ramones from '83-'87) 'Something In My Drink' tour. Also on the bill is The Waldos, Threads and The Weapons. Tickets for that show are on sale now. All dates on the tour are listed below.

In other NYC punk news, there's a benefit for the Transcore stage of Punk Island (which Aye Nako have played) at Grand Victory on Tuesday (1/21) with Little Waist, Penguin, Dirty Circle and The Whores (not to be confused with Whores). Tickets are on sale now and "100% of net proceeds will go to cover the costs of the Brooklyn Transcore Stage at the 2014 Punk Island Festival. "

Though this particular project is reggae, H.R. of punk legends Bad Brains will bring his band Dubb Agents to NYC for a show on February 21 at The Studio at Webster Hall with Rebelmatic, Radio Daze and Get Involved (mems Thursday/Judge/Glassjaw).

Another punk show goes down with I Am the Avalanche, The Swellers, Turnover and Bellwether on March 28 at Marlin Room at Webster Hall. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Turnover are on many dates on the Diamond Youth / Turnstile tour, but not the NYC show which happens on 2/14 at Acheron (tickets).

A week later at the Acheron (2/21) is the previously discussed Iron Chic / Chumped show. Since we last spoke, Earworms dropped off that show and were replaced by Timeshares. Iron Chic also recently announced all dates for their their tour, which you can check out here. Tickets for the Acheron show are still available.

In other recent punk news, Paint It Black announced their first NYC show in years, and The Lawrence Arms and Against Me! are streaming their new albums.

Jason Shevchuck w/ Kid Dynamite at House of Vans (more by David Andrako)
Kid Dynamite

Producer Will Yip has become a go-to guy in the punk scene, sitting behind the boards for Title Fight, Balance & Composure, Pity Sex, Sainthood Reps, Citizen and many others, and on October 8, he'll release a compilation titled Off The Board: A Studio 4 Family Compilation (pre-order) with previously unreleased songs from those artists and a number of others he's worked with. Proceeds from the album will go towards funding his partnership at Studio 4.

One of the songs on the compilation, which makes its premiere in this post, is "That Thing That Separates Em," the first new song in years by None More Black, the band fronted by Jason Shevchuk of the once-again defunct Kid Dynamite. Check it out, in all its scrappy punk glory, along with the comp's album art and tracklist, below.

The tour kicks off in NYC on November 8 at The Studio at Webster Hall. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Sainthood Reps will play NYC sooner when their tour with I Am the Avalanche hits Knitting Factory on October 24. Tickets for that show are still available.

Circle Takes the Square (photo by Danin Drahos)
CTTS

As discussed, Gainesville's The Fest is returning this year from October 31 to November 3, and they've just expanded their lineup to include more artists. Additions includes post-hardcore/screamo giants Circle Takes The Square, who have been reunited for a bit but still only rarely play US shows; Geoff Rickly's United Nations, who are also back, but have not been as active as Geoff's solo project; punk vets ALL; Titus Andronicus (who have multiple NYC-area appearances coming up); Fake Problems and more.

Those recent additions join previously announced names like Torche, White Lung, Bouncing Souls, Ceremony, Braid, Paint It Black, Samiam, Knapsack (reunion), The Draft (reunion), The Menzingers, The Lawrence Arms, Hop Along, Code Orange Kids, Creative Adult, Pity Sex, Mean Jeans, Retox, Lemuria, Greys, Tenement, Tim Barry, Toys That Kill, The Night Marchers and more. Tickets for The Fest are on sale now.

Circle Takes The Square returned in December, 2012 with Decompositions Volume Number One, their first album of new material since reuniting and second overall. It's not the instant masterpiece that their 2004 debut, As the Roots Undo, is, but it's still damn good. Download it in its entirety at bandcamp (name your price) or stream it in its entirety, along with the updated The Fest lineup, below.

Bad Religion @ T5, 3/26/2013 (photo by Keith Marlowe)
Bad Religion

It's hard to imagine doing any one thing for thirty three years, but somehow melodic punks Bad Religion are still going at it. The Southern California mainstays played one of the first dates on their current US tour at Terminal 5 on Tuesday (3/26), just a few days after headlining Wellmont Theater on Saturday (3/23). The dates included support from The Bronx (who recently played NYC in support of IV, pictures HERE and HERE) and Polar Bear Club, both of which have signed on for the entirety of the tour.

Much like The Bronx, Bad Religion are celebrating the release of their new LP True North with the tour.

In related news, The Bronx recently sat down with the guys at Rocks Off as part of a podcast. Check that out at the Rocks Off site.

More pics from Terminal 5 are below along with the Bad Religion setlists for both dates.

The Bronx at Bowery Electric, 2/5/2013 (by Harriet Roberts)
The Bronx

The Bronx is in New York. And by that I mean the California punk crew, who just celebrated the release of their LP IV with a pair of shows at Bowery Electric, are back in our city to play a sold-out Terminal 5 tonight (3/26) with Bad Religion and Polar Bear Club. The show is part of a larger tour for the trio that terminates in Los Angeles (The Bronx replaced Against Me!, who were initially on the tour but dropped off). Full tour dates, which include shows in Australia and an appearance at this year's Orion Festival in Detroit, are below.

You may remember The Bronx played a couple record release shows at Bowery Electric back in February, and we have a few sets of belated pics from both shows, more of which are below.

Bad Religion at Irving Plaza in 2010 (more by Keith Marlowe)
Bad Religion

Melodic punks Bad Religion will release their sixteenth album, True North, on January 22 via Epitaph, but have just revealed an advance stream of the entire thing which you can listen to below. It doesn't sound too different from the other records they've done since reuniting with Brett Gurewitz (everything from 2002's The Process of Belief on) which is probably a good thing if you're a Bad Religion fan, and it's pretty impressive for any band to be doing 30+ years into their career.

Bad Religion will support the album on a tour with Against Me! and Polar Bear Club this March and April. That tour hits NYC at Terminal 5 on March 26. Tickets for the NYC show go on sale Friday (1/18) at noon. UPDATE: They also play a NYC area show on March 23 at Wellmont Theatre and tickets for that show go on sale Friday (1/18) at noon.

Against Me! are also planning a new album this year, called Transgender Dysphoria Blues, which is still without an exact release date. You can watch a video of Laura Jane Grace performing the title track at a solo show below.

That video, a list of all currently known dates and the album stream below...

The Fest 11

The Fest is back for round 11 (!) adding bands from across the spectrum of punk rock for the multi-day Gainesville, Florida extravaganza. The Fest announced its initial lineup earlier this month but has doubled that number, bringing the total tally to a whopping 217, and there are more to go! The lineup includes Lagwagon, Naked Raygun, Baroness, Red Fang, Off with Their Heads, Torche, Valient Thorr, 7 Seconds, F.Y.P., Braid, Titus Andronicus, Toys That Kill, Underground Railroad to Candyland, Frank Turner and many more (see below). Tickets are now on sale (and sold out quick last year).

Full lineup is below, expect to see some surprises at The Fest as well; Sleepytime Trio reunited there last year.
