The new issue of UK music mag Uncut is out now, and it includes their Top 75 Albums of 2015 list. Like fellow UK mags MOJO and Q, they've got a lot of love for Julia Holter. They also have Sleaford Mods pretty high, lots of the 2015 year-end regulars in the top 10 (Kendrick, Sufjan, Father John Misty, Tame Impala, Courtney Barnett), and lots of older musicians throughout the list (Keith Richards, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Richard Thompson, Nick Cave, Killing Joke, PiL, Paul Weller, Robert Forster, etc). Check out the full list below.

Pond @ Bowery Ballroom 10/17/2014
Australian head trippers Pond will drop their sixth album, Man, It Feels Like Space Again, in January via Modular and you can stream first taste "Waiting Around for Grace" below. North America can get a bigger taste, though, as Pond just started their North American tour with fellow countrymen Doctopus, and are currently halfway through a two-night stay in New York City, having played Bowery Ballroom last night (10/17) with Aussie ex-pat Fascinator on the bill as well. Pics from that show are in this post and the same lineup plays Rough Trade tonight (10/19) and tickets are still available.
Pics of Doctopus (and a stream of their album) and Fascinator, plus more of Pond and their new songs stream, below...
Australian band Pond (featuring a couple members/ex-members of Tame Impala) are set to release a new album, Man, It Feels Like Space Again, later this year. There've been no real details beyond the title, but the band are set for a North American tour this fall, so we should be hearing more about it sooner than later. That tour has two NYC shows: Bowery Ballroom on October 15 and Rough Trade on October 18. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (8/8) at noon with an AmEx presale for the Bowery show beginning Wednesday (8/6) at noon.
Pond were interviewed by Pitchfork during this year's Primavera Sound and you can watch that, along with a list of all tour dates and the video for "Midnight Mass (At The Market Street Payphone)," below...
One of the coolest festivals in the world, Barcelona's Primavera Sound will hold its 2014 edition from May 29 - 31. Arcade Fire, Pixies and Neutral Milk Hotel were announced as headliners a while back but the fest announced it's headliners today via an online short film. They've outdone themselves this year, as the three day event includes a reunited Slowdive (!), Godspeed You! Black Emperor, The National, Television, Slint, Foals, Warpaint, St. Vincent, Majical Cloudz, Kendrick Lamar, The National, Metronomy, Queens of the Stone Age, Disclosure, CHVRCHES, Darkside, Julia Holter, Cloud Nothings , and more.
Full line-up below and tickets are on sale now.
UK music weekly NME has just published its end-of-year issue, with their Top 50 LPs and Tracks of 2013. As for the albums list, we'll let you read on to find out what their #1 pick is, but it might just be the one NME called "absolutely and unarguably the most incredible album of [said band's] career" and "the greatest record of the last decade." It's not Palma Violets, who were last year's Track of the Year, as their debut LP came in at #32 on the list.
As for tracks, their single of the year is a pretty obvious (certainly ubiquitous) choice. Check out the full lists of NME's Top 50 LPs and Tracks below...
Pond at BV SXSW 2012 (more by Tim Griffin)
The members of Tame Impala had a great 2012 with both their own album, and their side project, Pond, who released the album, Beard Wives Denim. Pond are set to follow that album with a new one, Hobo Rocket, this spring via Modular. Stream the mega-distorted first single, "Giant Tortoise," and check out its cover art below. You can also download the track in exchange for your email address at Pond's website.
Peter of HWGM @ Brooklyn Bowl, 9/18/2012 (more by Sarah Gainer)
Here We Go Magic's A Different Ship has made a few Best of 2012 lists, including ones from The Fly, Q, Johnny Beach of Bowery Presents and Freelance Whales. But what records did they like this year? Drummer Peter Hale submitted a list to us, with the following note:
Two confessions: I've ordered these very haphazardly, and I added my band's record as number one. Here We Go Magic only have one show on their schedule: January 17 at Le Poisson Rouge and tickets are on sale now. Meanwhile, HWGM started a Pledge Music campaign to fund a new live EP. There are some fun incentives, including having Peter cook for you or a private gig from the band.
I don't get asked to do this very often (maybe that's why), but I'm honored to do it and humbled (really) by the multitude of beautiful records. I'm probably wrong, but I imagine anyone who's ever worked as hard as he or she could on an album would agree that celebrating it is the best way to let it go; to release it not just to the public, but from those straps -- the emotions and toil -- that bind it so closely to our hearts. Like so many graduation days, this is letting go. What a great year!
You can check out their Pledge Music video below, alongside Peter's Top 11 of 2012.
UK music magazine Uncut put out their list of the top 75 albums of 2012. The top ten leans pretty heavy on long-running '60s/'70s survivors who put out new albums this year, but plenty of the list-topping regulars from newer acts are on there too, along with a few interesting surprises (Sun Araw, M Geddes Gengras & the Congos!). You can check out the full list below.
Long-running UK music weekly NME has just published their Year-End issue and have named Tame Impala's Lonerism as album of the year, with Grimes, Frank Ocean, Crystal Castles and Alt-J rounding out the Top 5. Tame Impala offshoot Pond comes in at #7. Check out the entire Top 50 list below.
NME's Top 50 LPs of 2012 are listed below.
The Fly is the "UK's most popular new music magazine," but if you haven't heard of it, its because it's a free monthly that doesn't really get international distribution. You can however read it online. The mag just released it's year-end issue and topping their Best Albums of 2012 is Sharon Van Etten's Tramp (which was just released in a Deluxe edition, a fine Xmas gift don't you know). Sharon narrowly beat out Grimes, whose Visions came in at #2. The whole list, in ascending order, is below and you can read what The Fly said about each album here.
A list of the Fly's Top 50 Albums of 2012 is below.

Pond @ Hotel Vegan on Saturday
Australian band Pond (not to be confused with Portland band Pond), who include two members of Tame Impala, just hit SXSW and are now on tour with Oberhofer. That tour arrives at Bowery Ballroom TONIGHT (3/21) for what will be Pond's first-ever NYC show (at a venue Tame Impala have headlined and sold out). Tickets are still on sale, so go out and give them a proper welcome (and then stick around for Oberhofer too). Afterwards head to Tribeca Grand for the afterparty. Flyer, details and more tour dates below.
I caught Pond once in Austin, at our own show at Hotel Vegan, and it was one of the most memorable of the week, in part from the performance, and in part from all the fun everyone/friends around me were having as the band rocked the intimate and packed Volstead space on Saturday afternoon.
Stereogum posted some SXSW awards, and Pond won for...
BEST BARE FEET: Nick "Paisley Adams" Allbrook, the perpetually shoe-bereft bassist for Tame Impala, who was recast this week as the perpetually shoe-bereft livewire frontman for Australian classic riff-rock vamp band/Tame Impala spinoff POND. What he lacks in shoes he makes up in HEART (and amphetamine-y spasms and contortions). -AmritSome pictures and videos from our Hotel Vegan show, and a video from another show, are in this post (a full stream of their set at Hype Hotel can be watched HERE, but the audio sucks). More pics and videos, with the other stuff, below...

Oberhofer at MHOW in 2011 (more by Bryan Bruchman)
Oberhofer, who signed to Glassnote for his debut LP, has announced that the album will be called Time Capsules II and it will be released on March 27. We've already posted the new wave-y album cut, "Gotta Go," which you can also grab at the top of this post. He just revealed a second track from the album, "HEART," which you can download above and stream below. The album also includes a number of tracks from his o0Oo0Oo EP, including the EP favorite, "Away FRM U." Album art and tracklist, and some video footage from the making of the album are below too.
They'll be touring in support of the album with Pond supporting most dates. That tour hits NYC on March 21 at Bowery Ballroom. Tickets are on AmEx presale now and go on sale to the general public Friday (1/20) at noon. The tour also includes the sold out Coachellas and a number of other dates. All dates are listed below.
If you're unfamiliar with Pond, they formed a few years ago in Australia and have released three full length albums since 2009. Members Nick Allbrook and Jay Watson have since been playing in another band that you're probably more familiar with; Tame Impala. After Nick and Jay returned home after extensive touring with Tame Impala, they've decided to release another album with Pond, called Beard Wives Denim, and it's coming out on March 6 via Modular, who also put out the Tame Impala album. You can download the single, "Fantastic Explosion of Time," above, and stream it and watch the video for it below.
