Pop. 1280 at Public Assembly (more by Tamara Porras)
Pop. 1280

NYC's Pop. 1280 successfully married post-punk, screeching synth discharges and noise on their current EP The Grid, out now via Sacred Bones. The band will follow-up that EP with the new Thirteen Steps 7" for Blind Prophet Records (run by Sean of Cult of Youth), currently available for preorder with some streaming samples.

Pop. 1280 are scheduled to play TONIGHT at Cake Shop (9/14), supporting K-Holes and Grave Babies who are on tour.

If you miss them, then make sure and swing by their next tour-ending show at Shea Stadium on 10/29 when they play with Sex Church, The Men, Unholy Two, and Dead Farmers.
The Men are also scheduled to play Saint Vitus on 9/17 with Pygmy Shrews and Vaz.

All tour dates and some videos below.

Grave Babies
Grave Babies

Seattle's Grave Babies' current U.S tour is rolling through town and the band plays Death by Audio tonight (9/13) and Cake Shop tomorrow (9/14). Both shows are with fellow Seattle-ites Perpetual Ritual, and all upcoming dates are at the bottom of this post.

As their name might imply, Grave Babies are on the darker side of things, kind of like a blown-out scuzz rock version of '80s goth (Sisters of Mercy, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Clan of Xymox). There's some strong melodies buried under all that intentionally bad production. The band have been kicking around for a couple years but have a new single out on Hardly Art that you can stream at the bottom of this post.

Tonight's show at DBA is a pretty good one, also featuring Brooklyn's Xray Eyeballs who, as you may have read, are playing the Sub Pop/Hardly Art CMJ showcase at Mercury Lounge on October 20. (Tickets are on sale now.) They also have a new single on Hardly Art, "Sundae," that's streamable at the bottom of this post.

Tonight's DBA show also features a "secret guest" who can now be revealed -- and not just hinted at -- as Sacramento, CA's Ganglians who played the Rock Shop last night. Ganglians' new album Still Living came out on Lefse at the end of August and is a step forward, musically, from 2009's Woodsist-released Monster Head Room. Album track "Jungle" (downloadable above) is a good example of their poppy, dreamy, distinctly West Coast sound.

Grave Babies' show Wednesday at Cake Shop also has K-Holes and Population 1280. Tour dates and streaming songs are after the jump.

Pissed Jeans at WFMU (more by Chloe Rice)
Pissed Jeans

Tickets are still on sale for Pissed Jeans at Knitting Factory in April and now the band have added two more NYC shows in June, both of which are opening slots for Australian punks Eddy Current Suppression Ring:

If you were looking for a day job that would reinforce the credibility of your garage punk band, you could hardly do better than to follow the example of Eddy Current Suppression Ring -- the four members of the group met when they were working at a vinyl pressing plant in Ormond, Victoria, Australia. Inspired by hard-edged, primitive rock in the manner of the Troggs, the Pagans. and X (the Aussie band, not the California punks of the same name), Eddy Current Suppression Ring got its start in late 2003 [and] ...after lots of local gigging and a handful of 7"s and EPs, the band issued their self-titled debut LP on Dropkick Records in 2006. ...The group formed their own label, Aarght Records, to release their second full-length album, 2008's Primary Colours. The album became an unexpected crossover success, rising to number six on the Australian charts and earning ECSR a nomination for Best Rock Album of 2008 at the Australian Music Industry Awards.
ECSR and PJ will play Cake Shop (!) on 6/18 with Home Blitz and Bloody Gears (advance ticket sale info is on the way) and then do it again the next night (6/19) at Market Hotel with Population 1280. Both shows are part of the ongoing Hardcore Gig Volume series.

ECSR is readying a new 7" for Mexican Summer, "Wet Cement" b/w "Hey Mum" + "Through The Trees", due this week. In addition, the band rill release Rush To Relax on Goner in March, dig on one of those tracks, "anxiety", above.

Dig on full ECSR and Pissed Jeans dates, as well as a few videos, below.
