DOWNLOAD: Maserati - "We Got the System to Fight the System" (MP3)
DOWNLOAD: Maserati - "Pyramid Of The Moon" (MP3 EDIT)
Though Jerry Fuchs is gone (but not forgotten), Maserati have soldiered on by adding all of Zombi (Steve Moore and Anthony Paterra) into the fold. Steve Moore (as a solo artist) also supported the great Maserati at Brooklyn Bowl on Saturday night, 11/13, as did the incredible Psychic Paramount. The same three bands play The Middle East in Boston tonight (11/15).
Maserati recently dropped their new LP Pyramid of the Sun via Temporary Residence Limited. The LP features some of the last recordings of Jerry Fuchs behind the kit and is out NOW. Two samples can be downloaded above. If you are on the East Coast, make sure and catch Maserati on tour NOW (Parlour becomes their opener starting Tuesday).
After the Maserati show, Brooklyn groups Midnight Magic & Punches performed at the dance party that took over the club/bowling alley after midnight. Chris stuck around for that too, so you've got pictures from both Saturday night Brooklyn Bowl shows in this post. More of them below...

"the memory tapes / cut copy show was pretty epic tonight. i was in the air half the time, jumping with the rest of the crowd. so. good." - Chris Casual
"Cut Copy went on about a quarter after 6, opening with "Lights & Music." This is one of their most popular songs and a great opener. The group was fully into it, head banging and jumping to their own music. I love when a band feels what they're doing and you feel it too. You could never tell that they had just flown in from Chicago and had barely slept. Other hits were "Nobody Lost, Nobody Found" and "So Haunted." The sound system was more to be desired - and bassist Tim Hoey's mike was too low for the first few songs - but a small setback.Cut Copy headlined Sunday's Pool Party at Williamsburg Waterfront. Memory Tapes, Glasser, Restless People and Punches (technically the DJs) also played. More pictures and videos (including one of tortillas flying through the air, and one of the new songs) from the day below...
The band brought a nice surprise when they played 2 new songs off of their untitled upcoming album. "Where I'm Going" was an instant crowd pleaser. It's a blend of 60's beach/psychedelia harmonies and poppy rhythms. Later they played "Blink and You'll Miss the Revolution," and I just have to say wow. You can tell a new song is a success when the audience is dancing uncontrollably. It's much heavier on the drum and bass than their typical stuff, yet still maintains an essence of 80's nuwave. This will definitely be one of the hits off the album.
Cut Copy ended after an hour long set, an encore, and soaking through their shirts. It was a great day, an outstanding show." [guilt free pleasures]
"saw Die Antwoord & MIA @ HARD NYC last night. FRESH! Gummo + Vanilla Ice + Mortal Combat = Die antwoord." - Katy Perry
people copping a feel @ Die Antwoord @ MHOW Sunday night (by Brook Bobbins)
After making their US debut at at Coachella and their NYC debut at at the Creators Project event in June, South African internet-rap group Die Antwoord dug in with a pair of weekend NYC shows on July 24th and 25th. On Saturday, they were part of the M.I.A.-headlined HARD NYC Fest on Governors Island (where they 'stole the show' ), and on Sunday, the group headlined their own show at Music Hall of Williamsburg.
Love them them or hate them, there's no denying they cause people to react. To quote Lori Baily who was also at the sold out show at MHOW Sunday night, it was "one of the most rapturous receptions for any band I've ever seen live. Amazing". Saturday's show at Governors Island was just as off the hook, and vulgar, and fun. Regardless of what you think, the signed-to-Interscope, YouTube sucesss story are here to stay, for now at least.
The Answer (aka Antwoord's name translated) have more shows coming up this year (including Virgin Mobile FreeFest at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD, on Saturday, September 25th.
