Descendents at Coachella 2013 (more by Dana [distortion] Yavin)
Las Vegas's Punk Rock Bowling festival will return for its 16th year in 2014. That's a lot of bowling (and bands). The four-day Las Vegas fest has announced the dates on which it'll run next year -- May 23-26 -- and its first block of bands. So far, they're mostly older acts who got their starts in the '70s or '80s: Cock Sparrer, Descendents, NOFX, The Anti-Nowhere League, The Adicts, Angelic Upstarts, and SNFU. The odd band out are NYC's Cerebral Ballzy, but after touring with FLAG and TSOL earlier this year, they're probably used to being the babies.
No tickets for sale yet, but keep an eye out here & on the festival's website for further info. And stay tuned for many more acts TBA. Flyer and intiial lineup below...

Flag / The Damned / the pit @ Punk Rock Bowling 2013
Under the blazing Nevada sun, Punk Rock Bowling festival went down in Las Vegas last week (May 24 - 27) featuring headlining appearances from names like The Damned, Devo, Bad Religion, Turbonegro, Flag, DRI, Subhumans and more. BV photographers Harriet Roberts and Keith Marlowe were there, the latter of whom commented on his experience:
The crowds were pretty sparse in the beginning of the days because lots of people were bowling, and the people that were there wisely took shelter under the tents in the back. Once night fell the place reached it's sold-out capacity. The headliners of the first night were Devo and the Damned. The Damned sounded great, but Devo really stole the show. They had an incredible video/light show and several costume changes.Pictures of those bands and more below...
Bad Religion and Turbonegro headlined the second night. There was a ton of Turbojugend there, and they made their presence known with their jackets and sailor hats, and it seemed like the whole crowd was singing along when singer Tony Sylvester directed them on 'oh.oh.oh.....I Got Erection' to close out their set. A surprising amount of people left during Bad Religion's set, I think they were worried about the capacity of the clubs for the after shows, which we missed for just that reason.
The last night closed out with the Subhumans, DRI, and Flag. People seem to have an opinion about the various Flag reunions, but i decided hold off on mine until i saw how they were live, and those dudes came to play. People went craaaaaaaaazy. Holy shit. There were bodies everywhere. I hope the Black Flag band is this intense when I see them.

NOT Sham 69, but Cockney Rejects
Bad news from the Sham 69 (Pursey/Parsons) camp...
"In March my father was diagnosed with asbestosis lung cancer. Since then the situation for my family has got worse and my fathers prognosis is not good as it has just become apparent that he has the most aggressive form. We have just been told that he now only has weeks to live and indeed his condition is already deteriorating. My family has only recently lost my mother so this makes it very difficult for me not to be here for my father and family. You will have to forgive me but I have to tell you now so you can at least have time to inform all fans. I am so sorry for this situation." - Jimmy PurseyWe are so sorry to hear that too, and wish only the best to Jimmy Pursey and his family in this tough time.
The news means the cancellation of all US dates; the NYC show has been scrapped altogether (refunds available via the point of purchase), but Sham 69 was replaced by oi greats Cockney Rejects at Chaos in Tejas and Punk Rock Bowling. Tickets are still available for both Punk Rock Bowling and Chaos in Tejas in various increments (festival passes, shows by day, etc).
Check out the latest Chaos in Tejas flyer, along with some Cockney Rejects videos below.
Porcell of BOLD on stage with Youth of Today (more by Jason House)
NYHC greats BOLD will apparently reform to play Lit Lounge tomorrow night (2/29) as part of a showcase that will also feature "Navegante (Electronic/Funk), Young Gliss (Hip Hop/ Rock), Meridian (New Age Rhythm Blues), ZAKEE (Alternative/Soul/Hip Hop), and The Better Letters (Rockabilly/Pop/Funk)." Interesting. BOLD 2012 is reportedly their original lineup, with "Zulu, Matt, Drew, Tim and Porcell" all on board. Check out the flyer below.
With the NYC show that makes three total Bold dates, with the second and third being the now-sold-out Revelation Anniversary Shows on 6/8 - 6/10 in California (Bold plays the first two).
Highly influential streetpunk band Sham 69 will reunite their 'classic' 1977-1979 lineup (or at least most of it) to play a pair of US shows including Punk Rock Bowling in Vegas and Chaos in Tejas Austin. The 1977-1979 lineup is:
Jimmy Pursey: vocalsThis lineup, also known as the Pursey/Parsons lineup (which may or may not have Mark Cain on drums this time around), is not to be confused with the version of the band led by Tim V (otherwise known as the Tim V lineup) (that's Tim V, Neil Harris, Ian Whitewood, Tony Feedback, and Al Campbell). The Tim V lineup operates out of Sham69.com, and both versions are currently playing live.
Dave Parsons: guitar
Dave Tregunna: bass
Mark Cain: drums
Sham 69 (Pursey/Parsons lineup) joins names like Rancid, NOFX, Pennywise, The Adicts, Youth of Today, Street Dogs, Toys That Kill, and many more for Punk Rock Bowling 2012 in Las Vegas, NV on May 25-28, 2012. The fest also features pool parties, a bowling tournament, late-night club and much more in addition to the outdoor festival appearances. Tickets go on sale soon.
Rancid also have some anniversary shows coming up with Cock Sparrer.
Youth of Today are also playing the Black N Blue Bowl this year in NYC with many other hardcore bands incluiding The Mob who also play Chaos in Tejas this year (May 31-June 3).
Sham 69 (Pursey/Parsons lineup) is one of many new additions to Chaos in Tejas which also added No Age, pygmylush, Screaming Females, Secret Prostitutes, Slug Guts (Australia), S U R V I V E, and Tenement. These additions are not to be confused with the set of bands that were announced earlier this week. Latest Chaos in Tejas lineup listed in full below.

Stiff Little Fingers @ Gramercy
Stiff Little Fingers played two NYC shows last week, tagging Europa on June 2nd and Gramercy Theater on June 3rd as part of their tour surrounding their appearance at Punk Rock Bowling:
How do I even begin to describe the degree of epic-ness for an event like the 13th Annual Punk Rock Bowling Tournament and Music Festival in Downtown Las Vegas? A lineup of rare punk bands from around the world? Sure! It takes place during a three-day weekend? Yes'm! A party venue? You bet your ass!Stiff Little Fingers, which features original members Jake Burns and Ali McMordie (in addition to Steve Grantley and Ian McCallum), are currently working on new material for a forthcoming LP and have three songs in the pipeline, all of which they have been known to play live: "Liars Club, "One Man Island" and "Full Steam Backwards". No word on when that album will be recorded/released as of now. Pictures from their NYC show at Gramercy Theatre with Kraut are in this post.
More than 24 bands performed at the yearly festival put together by BYO Records over the course of this past Memorial Day weekend. Bands included local greats such as the Descendents, as well as the forefathers of punk, Cock Sparrer...
The official first event of the festival didn't kick off until Saturday night, instead of Friday like last year's, but most attendees had rolled in Friday night, as several club shows with bonus bands were going on throughout the weekend. Saturday's diverse lineup included the '80s hardcore sounds of the Grim, the vintage tones of Stiff Little Fingers, and the comrade-like beats of Dropkick Murphys.
Stiff Little Fingers played most of their classics--"Wasted Life," "Barbwire Love," "Suspect Device," even their highly gratifying cover of the Specials "It Doesn't Make it Alright."-[OC Weekly]
Descendents, who returned at Fun Fun Fun Fest in 2010, have since also played some Australia, European and California shows in addition to Punk Rock Bowling. Their upcoming reunion shows include NXNE (with Fucked Up and Off!) in Toronto, D-Tox Rock Fest (also in Canada), and Riot Fest in Chicago.
More pictures of the Stiff Little Fingers Gramercy show, video of one awkward moment, and videos of Descendents in Las Vegas too, below...
Stiff Little Fingers' present lineup
Irish punks Stiff Little Fingers (Ian McCallum, Steve Grantley, Jake Burns, Ali McMordie) will swoop into the US to play dates including a few on the East Coast. Boston, DC, and Baltimore will all get attention, but NYC will get it twofold: June 2nd at Europa and June 3rd at Gramercy Theater. Tickets are on sale for the Europa date as well as Gramercy Theater.
Falling square in the middle of the tour is the band's appearance at Punk Rock Bowling in Las Vegas on 5/28, where the band will be joined by the likes of Descendents, Cock Sparrer, Killing Joke, The Dwarves, Bouncing Souls, and many others during the three day festival (5/28 - 5/30). Some tickets are still available for the third night, featuring Cock Sparrer.
Stiff Little Fingers "are working on a new album, the first since 2003's Guitar and Drum! Three new songs "Liars Club, "One Man Island" and "Full Steam Backwards" have debuted live." See them live at one of the tour dates below...
