Quicksand

We warned you, and now it's official. Quicksand have added ANOTHER NYC show in addition to the now-sold-out Bowery Ballroom date, this time at Music Hall of Williamsburg on August 25 (the day after the Bowery show). Tickets go on sale Friday (8/10) at noon. The show is will call only, and no tickets will be offered at the box office.

Quicksand will also play one other show after the NYC dates, at FYF in Los Angeles.

Quicksand

In the wake of tickets disappearing at the speed of light from their Bowery Ballroom show, Quicksand will reportedly add another NYC date before they split to the West Coast to play FYF. Details on said show are on the way, but I wouldn't be shocked at a show at Music Hall of Williamsburg or another date with Bowery.

Quicksand Slip

Just a friendly reminder that tickets to Quicksand's Aug. 24 Bowery Ballroom show go on sale today (8/1) at noon. Good luck!

UPDATE: Did you get them?

Quicksand

Quicksand have made good on their promise to play NYC before FYF in Los Angeles! The legendary NYC band WILL reunite to play NYC at Bowery Ballroom on August 24, their first NYC date since the band's dissolution more than thirteen years ago! Tickets go on sale Wednesday, August 1 at noon.

As discussed, Quicksand are not on board for the Revelation 25 celebration that will go down at Irving Plaza in October, but such bands as Chain of Strength, Youth of Today, Battery and more are.

Meanwhile, Dine Alone Records is reissuing Quicksand's 1993 album, Slip, on vinyl. Limited to 1500 copies, pre-orders start at 2PM today (7/31).

Check out the entire Quicksand performance from Pomona, CA's Glass House in June below, alongside some classic Quicksand videos.

King Khan  at The Bell House, Nov. 2011 (more by Keith Marlowe)
King Khan & the Shrines

The full House of Vans 2012 free show schedule is up. The Greenpoint/Williamsburg space has already housed The Rapture and Tanlines this year, and we knew about the 7/12 show with H20, 7 Seconds and Tournament, but here's the rest of the summer's line-up, brought to you by the folks at FYF and the sneaker people:

July 12: H20, 7 Seconds, Tournament
July 26: King Khan & The Shrines, Nicky Da B, The Everymen
Aug 2: Washed Out, Chairlift, Lemonade
Aug 16: Cursive, Titus Andronicus, Love As Laughter, Joyce Maynor
Aug 29: Turbonegro, Baroness, Doomriders, Nightbirds
The parties are free with RSVP (which hasn't been posted yet).

One thing you notice not on this list is Quicksand which was one of the big rumors of this year's VANS schedule. That either means that Quicksand will play somewhere else, or like the upcoming free Dum Dum Girls/Widowspeak show, it won't be part of this series of "House Parties."

The July 26 show is one of many local dates from NJ's Everymen who are also playing Pianos this Friday, July 6 as part of the CBGB Festival. (Advance tickets are on sale.) After the House of Vans show, the band will go on a short East Coast tour while putting the finishing touches on their new album New Jersey Hardcore which will come out in October on Killing Horse Records. All Everymen dates are below.

OFFICIAL flyers
Revelation Records Anniversary

The previously discussed dates (10/11 - 10/14) for the Revelation Records 25h Anniversary show have been confirmed publicly by the label who has now released a second flyer. The first was the one with the "X" that we posted about 6/17 (which went up on the Revelation site the next day) and now we have this second flyer which clearly points out the state of Texas. Can we look forward to Chain of Strength with Texas is The Reason? Seems alot more likely than Quicksand.

UPDATE: Looks like Into Another is on board, from the looks of the flyer below (that came from the Revelation Records website).

Chain of Strength

According to a source close to the festival, the previously rumored Chain of Strength will indeed headline two of the four nights of the Revelation Records East Coast four-day celebration. The band will appear at both the October 12th and 13th shows, though still no word on additional bands slated for the gala. We do know that Quicksand isn't one of them though (at the moment anyway). Ticketing info is still forthcoming.

Chain of Strength split 21 years ago, leaving a lasting impression with their True Till Death 7" and The One Thing That Still Holds True full length, both of which hit via Revelation Records. The LP's catalog number was REV-010, could that (and a straight edge reference) be the significance of the "X" in the flyer?

Check out some video of Chain of Strength in the 90s below, alongside a video of Mouthpiece covering the band's "True Til Death" in Pomona for Revelation Records West Coast Anniversary show....

Walter of Quicksand at Union Pool (more by Redboy)
Walter Schreifels

According to trusted sources, NYC post-hardcore greats Quicksand will return to NYC to play a "free or cheap" show at the end of this summer and will NOT play the discussed Revelation Anniversary shows in NYC as previously speculated and rumored (though those shows are happening with other bands). The yet-to-be-announced NYC date will take place in the days leading up to their already confirmed appearance at FYF in Los Angeles. The band feels the need to make their return in their hometown before making the trek to LA, to ensure that they can "give back" to the city they call home.

It's probably worth noting that FYF, who are hosting Quicksand in LA, are also the presenters of the House of Vans shows in NYC, and that House of Vans still has four TBA lineups to announce (nothing is confirmed at the moment though). (The first House of Vans 2012 show happens this week with the Rapture).

Quicksand, which contains all original members (Walter Schreifels, Tom Capone, Alan Cage and Sergio Vega) has changed their band status from inactive to active after they made their return at Revelation Records' 25th anniversary spectacular on the West Coast. So far no additional plans are known, but reportedly the show went well enough that the band is considering additional dates through the end of 2012, schedule permitting.

More on this story as it develops, but I've already blocked off the month of August as "busy."

Reminder, Sergio of Quicksand is currently serving as bassist for Deftones, who'll tour this summer and play the NYC area twice.

FYF

FYF Fest. September 1st and 2nd, 2012
At the LA State Historic Park, Los Angeles, CA
Tickets are $77 and go on sale Friday June 22nd.
WOW.

Quicksand recently reunited at Revelation Records' 25th Anniversary on the West Coast, and I would't be surprised if they do the same at Irving Plaza in October.

American Nightmare has two shows coming up at Webster Hall.

Is this flyer real?
Revelation Records NYC

The above flyer recently popped up on Facebook and though there is not any concrete confirmation on the dates, it seems to go along with recent reports of a set of NYC shows to counter-balance the 25th Anniversary spectacular on the West Coast. No word on who may play the event, the significance of the "X" (other than the obvious straight-edge connection), but rumors have names like Quicksand (who reunited for the celebration), Chain of Strength, and some of the other usual suspects from the recent Pomona shows. Fingers crossed.

Check out some recently surfaced video of full sets by Sick of it All, Youth of Today and Quicksand from the California shows below alongside an old Chain of Strength set from the 90s.

Quicksand reunited at Revelation 25 (via)
Quicksand

It seemed somewhat inevitable, but Quicksand (Walter Schreifels, Tom Capone, Alan Cage, Sergio Vega), split since 1999, reunited last night, Sunday, June 10th, as part of the Revelation 25th Anniversary Celebration, a weekend of shows in Pomona, California at the Glass House from June 7-10. The stellar festival lineup featured names that graced and help shape the label's storied history, names like Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today, Into Another, Supertouch, Bold, Sick of It All, No For An Answer, Sense Field, Statue, Ignite, In My Eyes, Kiss it Goodbye, Gameface and Shai Hulud. Quicksand were not on the bill, though they did advertise "special guest".

Check out video below of the reunited Quicksand performing "Fazer" "Dine Alone" Omission" and their set closer "How Soon is Now?", The Smiths classic that graced the B-Side of the "Dine Alone" single. (Does anyone have the full setlist?) While you're down there, don't miss video of Underdog, Into Another, Gorilla Biscuits and more.

What does this mean? Is this their only appearance? I'm betting that someone has Terminal 5 on hold for a week (though someone wrote on Wikipedia that " It will be a one-time only reunion"). Videos below...

Walter Schreifels @ Knitting Factory - BV-CMJ 2008 (more by Zach Dilgard)
Walter Schreifels

Last CMJ, Rival Schools played their first public NYC reunion show at Knitting Factory. It was part of a day-long and free BrooklynVegan party. Right before that happened we interviewed Rival Schools members Walter Schreifels and Sammy Siegler, but only ever posted half of it ("part 1"). As sometimes happens around here, time went on, and the interview got older and older... and then I remembered we had it today. What reminded me was the show that the new Walter Schreifels Band will be playing at Music Hall of Williamsburg this evening (@7:30pm). What better time then to finally post the never-before-seen conclusion? (not to mention it's as relevant now as it was last year) (and better late than never?).

Rival Schools have now been back together for over a year, and though they promised a new album, so far it looks like the newest one will be a solo LP coming out by Walter himself (video preview at the end of the post). He'll play some of those new songs, along with lots of classics, at Music Hall tonight (right after an opening set by Think About Life).

In the second part of the interview below (read part one first), we talked about Youth of Today, Quicksand, Walking Concert, Walter being a dad, and what inspires the old friends today.

{Please note that the interview was conducted before Chi Cheng of the Deftones was involved in a serious car accident. )

Check it out...

Walter

Walter Schreifels in concert doesn't just mean it will be the hardcore veteran playing his Martin acoustic. For a few dates (so far), Walter Schriefels (the band) will play shows in the northeast, including one on June 17th in NYC at The Studio @ Webster Hall. Ticket info is forthcoming. Expect a mix of "everything" (Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits, covers...), except Rival Schools since they are currently active. The band is:

vocals & guitar: Walter Schreifels
bass: Arthur Smilios (GB, CIV)
drums: Andy Action (2 Skinnee J's)
guitar: Dave Hill (Valley Lodge, Children of the Unicorn, Cobra Verde)
If you've ever seen comedian Dave Hill play guitar, you know he can shred (usually) in addition to telling jokes. He knows his shredders too. Catch his band Valley Lodge as "the house band for Triumph the Insult Comic Dog Presents Bonnapoo 2009" in the Bonnaroo comedy tent. Catch Dave's hilarious live comedy show, The Dave Hill Explosion, next at UCB in NYC on May 21st with special guests Takka Takka and Ira Glass.

Walter Schreifels' other venture, Rival Schools, are scheduled to play a few dates with Eagles of Death Metal, including NYC on August 6th at Webster Hall. Tickets are still on sale. Rival Schools is working on their new album, the follow-up to United By Fate and first album since reuniting.

All dates below...

Walter Schreifels

We totally spaced this one, but at least there's still a bunch of hours before Walter Schreifels takes the stage at Webster Hall's new Studio space tonight, Tuesday November 11th. He usually plays a mix of songs from all of his bands/solo project(s).The full lineup for the night is The (International) Noise Conspiracy, Walter Schreifels, Young Lords and Freshkills. "So yeah, I draw the line at Quicksand". - Walter

RS

Walter Schreifels. Sam Siegler. Two names of a very select few who defined a sound and a movement in the late 80s and early 90s, New York Hardcore. Building upon the zen-like teachings of prophets with names like HR, MacKaye, and Raybeez, Walter Schreifels and Sammy Siegler cut their teeth in the blooming NYC scene with the legendary Gorilla Biscuits, Youth Of Today, and Judge, as well as Side By Side, and Project X.

Quicksand and CIV, as well as MTV support, multiple LPs and music videos followed, culminating in the reunion of the two Youth of Today bandmates in Rival Schools. Sam and Walter formed the band in 1999, with their lone LP United By Fate coming in 2001. The band split the following year, scrapping existing recordings that were believed to be the basis of the new album. Six years passed, and Walking Concert, Nightmare of You, Head Automatica, and solo work followed until early 2008, when Rival Schools announced their reformation. The announcement was followed by festival dates in Europe, ultimately leading to a handful of US shows.

Which leads us to NYC... The band have lined up a pair of shows at Maxwells and Mercury Lounge in early November which sold out quickly, but the band have also agreed to headline the free BrooklynVegan day party at Knitting Factory on Oct 25th! In part one of their first joint interview ever, we poked and prodded Sammy and Walter about their past & present projects, the old days, and blow-up dolls...

Rival Schools

Walter Schriefels' short-lived post-Quicksand project, Rival Schools, have reunited to record some new tunes and lined up a seven date tour of the UK leading up to an appearance at the Hove Festival in Norway. Here's Walter from an interview posted @ RockSound:

"We have got this June tour and we still want to play some shows in the States. Especially if we are writing new songs it would be good to live in them a little onstage before we come to record anything. Whether the album is out first part of the year or spring we are not yet sure but we want to play out with new material to test it all out so expect a few more dates to be announced."
Awesome..... US dates are comin'! Full tour dates, most history and videos below.....
