Tombs

Tombs completed a run of dates with Germany's Planks, playing Death By Audio on August 22nd with Gods & Queens, Radiation Black Body (2/3 of Defeatist), Dawn, and Yautja.
The show was Planks' first in NYC, and were very impressive as they ran through songs from their self-titled 12" in addition to newer material (watch their ENTIRE set below). Tombs played a good portion of new material as well, and are even more venomous with the addition of a second guitar (video below). Gods & Queens channelled song structures from greats like Quicksand, Helmet, and other 90s bands, killing it in the process (video below). Radiation Black Body's instrumental grind/hardcore brought to mind a jazzier Bastard Noise without the electronics. In all, a fantastic string of four bands.
Justin and I arrived at the venue late, missing Dawn and Yautja. Pictures and video of the rest of the show, continue below...

Defeatist @ The Charleston (more by Justina Villanueva)

"Defeatism is acceptance of defeat without struggle. In everyday use, defeatism has negative connotation and is often linked to treason and pessimism, or even a hopeless situation such as a Catch-22. The term is commonly used in the context of war: a soldier can be a defeatist if he or she refuses to fight because he or she thinks that the fight will be lost for sure or that it is not worth fighting for some other reason. Again in connection with war, the term is used to refer to the view that defeat would be better than victory. The term can also be used in other fields, like politics, sport, psychology and philosophy." [Wikipedia]In case you weren't pummeled enough this holiday season (helloooo empty wallet), NYC band Defeatist has added a last minute Brooklyn show at The Charleston on Dec 19th with Bezoar and Rats In The Walls. Details are below.
Defeatist will do a short set of dates in mid-January in support of their new full-length, Sixth Extinction, for release on Willowtip in Feb 2010. Dig on three tracks from that album above. In addition, the band is scheduled to team up with Magrudergrind at Cake Shop on 1/23 as part of a BV presentation (their second BV presented show). Full Defeatist dates are below.
In related news, 2/3 of Defeatist, AKA Radiation Black Body, are scheduled to play Lit Lounge on Dec 21, along with My America, Torchbearer, and Rising Up Rising Down as part of the ongoing Precious Metal series.
Defeatist played The Charleston on July 17th with Hatred Surge and Mammoth Grinder. Mammoth Grinder are scheduled to play NYC again on 1/12 , also at The Charleston.
