Arcade Fire

Yesterday, we posted that Arcade Fire would be premiering a new single on September 9 at 9 PM from their upcoming album (due out 10/29 via Merge). The band have just updated their website with another cryptic video titled "Reflektor 9/9/9." Watch it below.

In related news, you may remember that back in 2010 Peter Gabriel released a covers album, Scratch My Back, which featured him covering tracks by Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Lou Reed, David Byrne, Paul Simon, and more. He's now set to release its sequel, And I'll Scratch Yours, where those artists return the favor by covering Peter Gabriel songs. The album will be out on September 23 via Real World. Check out the tracklist below.

Rush at Barclays Center, October 2012 (more by Fred Pessaro // BBG)
Rush
In a just-held ceremony at the Nokia Theatre in L.A. that was hosted by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, the 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees were announced after nominees surfaced a short two months ago. Among this year's class are Randy Newman, Public Enemy, Donna Summer, Heart, Albert King and the long-snubbed Rush, along with receipients of the Ahmet Ertegun Award, Lou Adler and Quincy Jones.

Reportedly, Rush was the clear beneficiary of the recently instituted popular vote, and the band had the following comment:

"We are honored to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The 3 of us are especially appreciative of our loyal fans whose support and dedication has gone a long way to making this possible. P.S. And special thanks to our moms for voting 6000 times!" - Alex, Geddy, & Neil
The induction takes place in April 2013, followed by a telecast of the ceremony on HBO. Congrats guys!

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2013 nominees: The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Deep Purple, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Albert King, Kraftwerk, The Marvelettes, The Meters, Randy Newman, NWA, Procol Harum, Public Enemy, Rush, and Donna Summer.

For the first time in its history, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will offer fans the opportunity to officially participate in the induction selection process. Beginning on Thursday, October 4 and continuing through December 5, the public can vote for the five nominees they believe to be most deserving of induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a "fans' ballot" that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2013 inductees.
The Induction Ceremony will take place at Nokia Theatre in LA on April 18, 2013 and will air on HBO.

DOWNLOAD: Peter Gabriel - Flume (Bon Iver cover) (MP3)

Peter Gabriel

Peter Gabriel's new record Scratch My Back is an all-cover, orchestra-backed collection of songs from Bowie's "Heroes" to Arcade Fire's "My Body Is a Cage." There's also a Bon Iver cover, a soft-spoken take on "Flume," which you can get above (full track list below). The record is described as "the first part of a series of song exchanges in which Peter and other leading artists reinterpret each others songs." It comes out in UK/Europe on February 15th (through EMI), in Canada on February 16th (through Universal Music) and in the US on March 2nd through Gabriel's own Real World Records.

Gabriel's album-supporting tour is short and sweet. He plays three European cities in March, then there are three North American stops - one night in L.A. and Montreal, and two nights at New York's Radio City Music Hall on May 2nd and 3rd. Tickets go on AmEx presale Sunday, Febraury 7th. General sale starts Tuesday, February 16th at 10am. For all the dates, he'll have a 54-piece orchestra in tow.

In other rock legends playing Radio City news, tickets go on general sale Friday for a show Ringo Starr and his All Star Band are playing at the venue in July.

Brooklyn Philharmonic & Grizzly Bear @ BAM (more by Kyle Dean Reinford)

The future for the Brooklyn Philharmonic may look a bit bleak -- the group recently canceled its 2009 season -- but you can still catch a performance by the ensemble today (Saturday, 8pm) at Pier 17, as part of the South Street Seaport's annual Children's Day. Their performance will be accompanied by the year's only major fireworks show visible from Brooklyn and lower Manhattan (since this year's 4th of July fireworks will be in the Hudson).

The show's full program, which includes the music of Randy Newman (esteemed composer of the Toy Story score, among other things), below...
