As you know from a post with the setlist last night which was followed up this morning with a set of pictures on BV Austin, At The Drive-In played a show! As it says on BV Austin:

After an opening set by Zechs Marquise, At the Drive-In played their first show since 2001 (as it said on the show poster) at Red 7 in Austin last night (4/9). It was also the first in a series of pre-Coachella warm up shows that continue in Dallas (tonight) and then Marfa.

According to show promoter Transmission Entertainment, the surprise gig sold out in 11 minutes after being announced via Twitter the other day. In addition to all those packed inside, there were many listening from the alley outside. Though some complained that Omar Rodriguez Lopez seemed a bit out of it (update: his mother recently passed away), the band was generally high energy with Cedric hanging from the rafters of the newly refurbished club, and the crowd going insane.

Guitar Wolf

"I have just returned from seeing Guitar Wolf, the legendary jet rock and rollers from Japan. I have wanted to see this band since I first bought one of their albums at the seminal Wax Trax record store in Boulder, Colorado in 1998.(I think it was the first thing I ever got there oddly enough, along with a Motorhead compilation) So needless to say I was excited. I mean the thundering Link Wray riffs that made you ready to rumble with some Socs, the frenzied two to three minutes of every carnage filled song, and of course the amount of aliens killed in their cult film Wild Zero made me excited to see the men in black this evening.

And you know what...it wasn't that awesome." [nomoretvparty]

Saturday (AKA day three) had a few options during the day at Chaos in Tejas. Keith & Harriet took full advantage of those. First they caught sets by Tragedy with Mind Eraser (they missed Omegas) at a sold-out Emo's indoors before heading to Beerland to catch The Marked Men (again) with Night Birds. After a lull, the duo went back out to catch a show at Red 7 outdoors, where Guitar Wolf (who the above reviewer didn't enjoy) was playing with Off With Their Heads, Underground Railroad to Candyland, the Mind Spiders, Cheap Time, and the Hex Dispensers (who they missed). Marked Men

While Tim and I were getting pummeled by riffs and falling audience members, Keith Marlowe and Harriet Roberts were avoiding stage-divers as well. Textbook Committee headlined a show at Red 7 on the second night of Chaos in Tejas, though it was a rare appearance from The Marked Men that had the community buzzing about. Textbook Committee and the Marked Men were joined by a reunited F.Y.P., This is My Fist, England's The Shitty Limits, Chinese Telephones, and Secret Prostitutes at the venue, and pictures of all but Textbook Committee and Secret Prostitutes are in this post.

Floor at Red 7 for the BrooklynVegan Fun Fun Fun Fest After-Party

Robotic Empire dropped the exhaustive Floor box set earlier this year and now Chunklet will release a Floor DVD entitled Sight & Seen, a two disc compilation on the mighty Floridian band that spawned also-greats Torche and Dove. The DVD includes multi-angle video from both Floor renunion shows at The Earl in Atlanta (pictures here) as the centerpiece, the set also includes a featurette on the band with more live footage and interviews, audio from both shows, and older video that spans Floor's original run. If it's anything like the Harvey Milk Anthem DVD, you'll want to get your hands on it... Get your copy via Chunklet, but hurry; only 700 will be released in varying colorways. Look for it the first week of December 2010.

Not-surprise guest Floor headlined the BrooklynVegan FFF Fest afterparty at Red 7 in Austin on Sunday (11/7) alongside Landmine Marathon, Mammoth Grinder, and Ratking.

After a long day of incredible performances Sunday at Fun Fun Fun Fest (pictures are on the way), I was a bit worn out (not just from the day, but from Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday too). But the energetic performances from all bands- Ratking is brutal crusty noise/hardcore featuring Coop from Made out of Babies, Mammoth Grinder is a personal fave, and Landmine Marathon was especially great with their new drummer- got my heart racing. Even though I caught Floor earlier that day at the fest, I enjoyed them much more as my final band of the Fun Fun Fun trek.... just incredible. Thanks to Transmission and all that filled Red 7!

Inquisition @ Red 7

Will the whole thing be like this? I'm currently in Austin, TX prepping to see Fun Fun Fun Fest (tickets here) this weekend and already in the two days leading-up Red 7 has hosted a pair of killer shows. The Wednesday show featured the new Faiza Kracheni (ex-Hatred Surge) project Mindless alongside the crusty and blackened Wolvhammer. Last night (11/4), Chaos in Tejas hosted a free and eclectic heavy shindig headlined by Saviours and featuring Inquisition, Pack of Wolves, HOD, and Naw Dude.

The punishment at Red 7 continues through the weekend and into Sunday (11/7), when BrooklynVegan will host Landmine Marathon, Mammoth Grinder, Ratking (mems Made out of Babies, Gorilla Biscuits) and an act that was previously listed as "special guest" that we can now reveal as Floor! The Red 7 show is their only non-Fun Fun Fun Fest show (they play the festival proper that afternoon) coming up, and quite possibly could be their last show EVER. If you are in the area, get down to Red 7... it's free with your FFF writband and a measly $5 without.

Unfortunately I missed all support for the Wolvhammer/Mindless show, as well as Pack of Wolves, HOD, and Naw Dude (all bands I was looking forward to seeing), but pictures of the rest, below...

Andrea of Howl will destroy you

Howl and Javelina are here, and ready to wreck NYC with Sea of Bones and Flourishing as part of a BV/1000 Knives production that kicks off TONIGHT (3/25) at Cake Shop. It's an early show, so doors are at 7 and the show begins PROMPTLY at 7:30. Want to go? I have two pairs of tickets up for grabs, details at the bottom of this post.

The show will serve as a record release party for the incredible Flourishing (featuring Garett of Wetnurse), who drop their new EP A Momentary Sense of the Immediate World on The Path Less Traveled Records next week. Cop it.

Howl is also prepping to release their new album Full of Hell on Relapse Records, pre-order that now. They played many of those new songs at their appearance at the BrooklynVegan, Converse, Tee Pee Records & Chronic Youth co-hosted Attitude Adjustment show at Red 7 in Austin, Texas on 3/20. Javelina (who filled in for Nebula) was also on board, playing the metal stage (with The Gates of Slumber, Priestess, Naam, and Liturgy) with the other stage featuring raging hardcore (Alpha & Omega, Touche Amore, Iron Age, Trash Talk) and some of the greatest names in underground hip hop (Black Milk, Buckshot of Black Moon with special unannounced guest Smif N Wessun!) for a killer mix...

"Black Milk (March 20, Red 7): After Detroit superproducer/MC Black Milk's set, someone behind me compared Milk's band to The Roots. But even Philly's finest have never been as dynamic as hard-hitting drummer Daru Jones, keyboardist AB and Milk himself during their set. With a driving rendition of posse cut "The Matrix," Milk proved that he's as dope on the mic as he is behind the boards for stars like GZA. If the forthcoming Album Of The Year consists of this trio live in the studio, you'll hear no complaints" [Eye Weekly]

I know we are a bunch of teasers, in between all of the (not so subtle) hints we have dropped lately. But now BrooklynVegan, in association with Tee Pee Records, Chronic Youth and Converse, is proud to announce 'Attitude Adjustment' at Red 7 in Austin on Saturday, March 20th from Noon to 6PM! The free show will pair some of the greats in hip hop with brutal hardcore, all while a riff-stravaganza destroys the other stage. You've been warned. Here's the lineup:

The Red 7 show is one of MANY BrooklynVegan shows during the festival this year, and one of four that involves metal. The other three are the two stage Emo's shindig with Torche and Fucked Up on 3/17, the Profound Lore/20 Buck Spin Official showcase on 3/19, and the BV/100Knives/Crustcake Pizza Party on 3/18. Actually it's five if you count the M for Montreal show on 3/20 with VOIVOD.

Other non-metal BV shows include our official showcase on 3/17 with Califone, Serena Maneesh and more, and the BV/Anso party on 3/18 with Tyvek, Cheeseburger, and many more, and our day party at Club DeVille on 3/19 with Lucero, The Antlers and others. Half of this stuff is still not fully announced. Stay tuned.

The Red 7 show will also be one of two hip hop events we are involved with at SXSW this year. We're also happy to report that we're media sponsoring the official Audible Treats showcase on 3/20. More details to come! Pictures from their most recent CMJ show HERE.

forgetters @ Red 7 (Fun Fun Fun Fest afterparty) in Austin - 11/8/09

forgetters, the newish trio fronted by Jawbreaker's Blake Schwarzenbach (a punk rock poet and a scholar), have scheduled a short tour down the East Coast that kicks off with a Brooklyn show at Market Hotel on Friday, December 11th with Humanbeast and Chastity Wig.

forgetters made an appearance at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin this year. Actually they played one of the fest's official afterparties at Red 7 on Sunday, November 8th. The two pictures here are from that stelllar and surprisingly tight show where Blake introduced and closed the set by reminding the Texas crowd that they were "forgetters from Brooklyn, NY". Two weeks earlier the group played one of their only other shows ever, an in-store at NYC's Generation Record (10/25). A video from the in-store show and all tour dates below...

This Saturday (11/21) will be exactly two weeks since I saw Negative Approach at Red 7 in Austin. It will also be the day NA returns to Southpaw in Brooklyn. Tickets are still on sale (for the early show).

Austin & Brooklyn are two of seven cities NA announced shows in. There's also Sunday (11/22) in Long Branch, NJ.

The Austin show was one of a few official Fun Fun Fun Fest afterparties (another I went to was Forgetters at the same venue one day later). That dude in the cart above was one of many going crazy in the pit. Trash Talk was one of the openers and you can see their singer stagediving in the pictures that are continued below...
