Buzzov-en at Maryland Death Fest (more by BBG)

Posted to Facebook on Wednesday evening:
I am the singer and man who started buzzoven.I am in recovery from drug addiction and would love to share my journey with anyone who wants maybe to stop drinking or using drugs. This helps me!!The above comment was left by Kirk Fisher on the Buzzov-en Facebook along with another shared statement. The Buzzov-en frontman has battled addiction for sometime now, so glad to hear he's doing well and best of luck to him. Find him on Facebook...
Meanwhile, I'm waiting anxiously for new music when he's ready, and some of his bandmates are out on the road in Hail Hornet.
Waylon (a fictional character played by Justin's dad)

Mr. [Justin Townes] Earle said he began using hard drugs at age 12, while sharing a house with his father, singer-songwriter Steve Earle, who's had his own bouts with addiction and jail time. Though he admitted he's reluctant to take his father's advice, Mr. Earle said they occasionally go to 12-step meetings together.Justin Townes Earle is out of rehab and ready to rembark on his rescheduled tour. Jessica Lea Mayfield opens the NYC show which is on sale."It takes a lot for someone with the substance abuse issues I have to stay away from such things," said Mr. Earle, who added that he was consuming a half-gallon of vodka a day, cocktail by cocktail. "If you hang around the barber shop long enough, you're going to get a haircut. I'd just gotten to a point with my drinking that it required a medical detox. Alcoholics and junkies tend to become stupid when it comes to that. We need giant catastrophes to hip us to the fact that we're f----- up."
Back on his feet, Mr. Earle will embark from his East Village apartment on Thanksgiving for his first concerts since September, with shows in Nashville this weekend, followed by a Dec. 18 rain date at New York's Webster Hall. [Wall Street Journal]
Steve Earle opens for Levon Helm at Beacon Theater on 11/26.

Justin Townes Earle @ Governors Island in August (more by Chris La Putt)

Justin Townes Earle has decided to suspend the remaining dates on his tour and enter a rehabilitation facility. Earle is strongly committed to confronting his on-going struggle with addiction and thanks his family, friends and fans for their continued support through this difficult time. The postponed dates include October 19th at Webster Hall in NYC (which also happened to be part of CMJ). Jessica Lea Mayfield and The Sadies were set to open that show, and Bowery Presents says "Refunds are available at point of purchase if requested, but a new date will be announced shortly and all tickets will be honored. We apologize for any inconvenience." All postponed dates below...In regards to the misdemeanor charges recently filed in Indianapolis, Earle released the following statement earlier this week: "Unfortunately, reports surfacing online about the incident in Indianapolis are not accurate. I have been advised by counsel that I should not comment on a pending criminal matter, but suffice to say that I am looking forward to having my day in court. I would also like to say that I oppose violence against women in any form."
Earle looks forward to resuming the tour in support of his critically-acclaimed third album, Harlem River Blues, on independent record label Bloodshot Records. The album enters this week at #47 on the Top 200 in overall Soundscan.

"Rehab is shutting it's gates until it gets a new investor sorted. When & how it will reopen is anyones guess...there are many different scenarios, so for now thanks for the memories and if anything different arises we'll let you know. The DMZ show 3/21 has been moved to Southpaw."It looks like the last show there was Saturday night (2/28). Antagonista and 18 Wheels Burning were on the bill and that was followed by a Midnight Junior Lion Record Release Reggae Party.
Rehab (25 Avenue B - Between 2nd and 3rd st) lasted less than a year. Before that it was Midway. Before that it was Scenic. Before that it was Guernica and Save The Robots (and did I miss one?).
In other news, Knitting Factory is temporarily re-opening its Tribeca location and Sound Fix closed its lounge.
...and the one playing Rehab Friday (12/26) with Joe Jack Talcum of The Dead Milkmen is not the one usually discussed on this site...

That's what it says on Rehab's calendar.

Thousands of fans converge on the Pyramid stage to witness the fabulous Amy Winehouse perform live and to find out if, as the gossip magazines say, she is indeed truly out of control. [BBC]I can't believe they really had her play the festival this weekend. Check out some songs, including one where she descends into the huge crowd (and "punches fan"), in the videos below...
Adam Green @ Town Hall, NYC - May 10, 2008

Adam Green, the beloved New York singer-songwriter with the deep baritone voice and quirky sense of humor, played his largest headlining show to date last Saturday at Town Hall. When he said on The View that he was playing there, I thought it was the perfect setting for him and it was about time. He may come off as this jokey musician with nonsensical lyrics to Joe Public, but from following his solo career, I knew he takes his music seriously. So, Town Hall suits him fine. [Music Snobbery]Tim Fite and Laura Marling opened the show on Saturday.
Adam Green's next NYC show will be something much smaller. This info is posted on Rehab (formerly Club Midway)'s website....
positively avenue bThe Juno soundtrack is probably the main reason Adam can play a venue as large as Town Hall now (and why he was on The View) (and why Kimya Dawson is suddenly headlining Webster Hall).
May 23, $10, downstairsThe Smoking Section Presents: Bob Dylan's 67th Birthday Bash
Featuring: The Street Legal Six
Plus: Adam Green, The Pierces, The Hymns, Tracy Bonham, Nikolai Fraiture of the Strokes, Russell Simins and members of the Mooney Suzuki, Albert Hammond Jr.'s band and much, much more!
Now now there are two Juno soundtracks. "Juno B-Sides: Almost Adopted Songs" is also streaming at Spinner (though this one has no Adam or Moldy Peaches, but it does have Kimya...and Yo La Tengo, Belle & Sebastian, and Ellen Page...).
And for even more Ellen Page: The Broken Social Scene-soundtracked film The Tracey Fragments is now in theaters.
Adam Green also has some shows scheduled with Lightspeed Champion, and he's playing all the places listed below....

Jasper used to book Pianos. Now Zachary and Billy book Pianos. Zachary just opened his own new bar on Avenue A. Midway on Avenue B is now Rehab. Jasper now books at Rehab.
You might also remember Jasper as the man behind Jenyk.com.

Man, this venue has no luck keeping a name for very long. Midway (formerly Scenic, Guernica, Save The Robots, etc) is now called Rehab. It's where The LK is NOT playing tonight (March 25)
I have to finish what I started, and I guess that would be compiling the world's biggest collection of people dressed as Amy Winehouse for Halloween. I was already up to 92 pictures. By the end of this post you'll have seen another 166. Some are great, and more than a few paired Amy with her boyfriend Blake Fielder-Civil. This photo falls into both of those categories....

Even more looked less like Amy, and then there were many Amys that decided to hang out with Pete Doherty instead of Blake - a pairing that makes a lot of sense from the English musician drug addict tabloid point of view. This picture falls into both of those categories....
Pete Doggerty & Amy Doghouse

In related news,
After Amy Wino's hideous performance at the MTV Europe Awards last night, she was booed when she accepted an award for Artists' Choice. Pete Doherty immediately came to her defense. Then there was Amy with Lily Allen...
He was asked what advice he would give Wino, "I wouldn't give her any. She's fine. It's all bollocks. People should leave her alone. I went for a drink with her earlier today and she's totally fine. Perfectly healthy and happy.
"People are saying she's out of control, but she's not. She's a sensible girl and she knows what she's doing. She ain't doing nothing wrong." [dlisted]

and even Amy with M.I.A....

Now we'll get to more Amy's in a second, but first: To answer my own question, "no", Amy is no longer playing the MTVu Woody Awards or Saturday Night Live due to visa issues. Oh well - not a big loss considering how scary her last live appearance was. That video, and a zillion more Amy impersonators, below.....

Amy Winehouse is one of this year's hottest Halloween costumes - possibly now even more popular than the Bride of Frankenstein (a long-time monster party staple).
