Headlining the show is one of the most consistently great bands in the area, Titus Andronicus. It's their only CMJ show this year and going by other recent shows, we can probably expect to hear new material.

Also on the bill is scrappy LA duo Girlpool who have a bit of buzz behind them (we're excited to see them too) off the strength of their debut EP on Wichita.

There's also psych rockers/Ty Segall associates White Fence, indie pop band Beverly (whose album but not live show includes Frankie Rose on drums), promising Nashville poppy punk band Bully, and the young but talented beyond their years Austin band Residual Kid.

TWO MORE BANDS will be announced tomorrow.
UPDATE: Full lineup now announced.

At noon, like the day before, Matt Marcus of Three Kings Tattoo will start giving out free tattoos courtesy of Sailor Jerry Sign up at his table for the chance to win one and get inked right inside the front room of Baby's for free. (this year tattoo recipients will be picked by raffle instead of first come, first served like last year).

Friday's lineup includes Twin Peaks, Single Mothers (their only CMJ show), The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die, Protomartyr, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Tweens, The Wytches and Dilly Dally (their first NYC show). FFF NITES @ FUN FUN FUN Fest - November 7-9 2014
FFF NITES @ FUN FUN FUN Fest - November 7-9 2014

With less than 2 months to go, today Fun Fun Fun Fest release their FFF NITES lineup:

FUN FUN FUN FEST (FFF Fest) is excited to announce today the lineup for FFF Nites, the after shows free to festival wristband holders, during this year's festival November 7--9, 2014, at Auditorium Shores. The Nites performances--including over one hundred FFF performing artists and a roster of artists playing exclusively during Nites--are only available to FFF Fest wristband holders; no tickets will be sold at the door.
If you're on the fence, this might be the final push. More than seventy (74 so far if I counted correctly) of the one-hundred-plus above mentioned artists are exclusive to FFF Nites, including Meat Puppets, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, The Jazz June, Power Trip, Tombs, Single Mothers, Into It Over It, The Hotelier, Le1f, The Pizza Underground, MSTRKFT and many more. Access to the night shows is FREE with your FFF wristband.

You can still get FFF passes here.

Ringo Deathstarr in Austin, 2012 (more by Tim Griffin)
Ringo Deathstarr

Peter Murphy releases his new album, Lion, this week via Nettwerk. The album was produced by Youth of Killing Joke and, as the title might imply, its a little wilder than we've heard the former Bauhaus singer be in a while. Lion definitely roars. You can stream the whole record below. Murphy's Lion tour is currently underway and will hit NYC on June 9 at Irving Plaza. Tickets are still available.

Opening at Irving Plaza and many dates on the tour are Austin shoegazers Ringo Deathstarr whose album God's Dream came out earlier this year. The night after Irving Plaza, the band will play a headlining show at Baby's All Right (June 10) with Heaven, Harsh Vibes and Residual Kid. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

All Ringo Deathstarr tour dates are listed, along with the Peter Murphy LP stream, below...

J. Mascis & Residual Kid in Mascis-chusetts
Residual Kid

Residual Kid @ Mohawk in Austin - 1/3/2014
Free Week in Austin - 1/3/2014

They may be young, but they are talented and apparently J. Mascis agrees because the Austin band, who we also caught at Fun Fun Fun Fest in 2012, recently spent some time in Massachusets recording with none other than the Dinosaur Jr. frontman. Residual Kid's recent Facebook posts include quotes like: "Having a blast recording in Mascis-chusetts! J. Mascis rules!", "Man, you're gonna LOVE these new recordings with J.Mascis!", and "Mascis-chusetts has been awesome! Recording with J.Mascis was an amazing experience - can't wait to share the new songs with you!"

Meanwhile, Ben Redman (drums), Deven Ivy (guitar) and Max Redman (bass) are back in Austin and celebrating the annual week of free shows known as 'Free Week' which continues through 1/11. Residual Kid played a free show at Mohawk on 1/3 and pictures from that show, which was with What Made Milwaukee Famous, are on this post. If you missed it, RK play again Thursday (1/9) at Holy Mountain and Friday (1/10) at Cheer Up Charlies, both also free.

Their upcomin gCheer Up Charlies show will also sadly be one of the last happening at the eastside space which is closing down after this weekend and moving to Red River in the former home of Club DeVille. This is big music venue news for locals and SXSW-tourists alike. Both DeVille and Cheer Up Charlies have been very active venues during SXSW, with Cheer Up Charlies especially notorious for being the location of many unofficial Todd P shows.

Club DeVille, where we hosted a bunch of BrooklynVegan SXSW shows, is (was) also right next door to Mohawk where we recently caught Big Freedia and Public Enemy and.... Residual Kid. More pictures of the latter below....
