We already learned that Lady Gaga is doing a Bowie tribute at the Grammys this year, and the other rock legend who recently passed away, Lemmy, will get one too. This one includes some people who were a little closer to Lemmy than Gaga was to Bowie. It's by Alice Cooper and his band the Hollywood Vampires, which includes Aerosmith's Joe Perry, Guns N' Roses' Duff McKagan, and Johnny Depp, among others. Alice said to Rolling Stone:
"He was always funny," he continues. "I'm a 'healed' alcoholic and I haven't had anything to drink in 35 years. A lot of people that drink always feel a little bit like they owe an explanation to me. A couple weeks before his death, Lemmy came up to me and said, 'Alice, I've quit drinking.' And he's got a glass in his hand. And I go, 'Really?' And he says, 'Yeah, I don't drink whiskey anymore. I drink vodka.'" Cooper laughs. "And I went, 'Lemmy, do you think your liver has any idea what color the alcohol is?' He said, well it's a step down from whiskey.' And I went, 'OK. Any step's a good step.'" He laughs. The Hollywood Vampires will also make the live debut of their song "As Bad As I Am" at the Grammys. It will be released as a bonus track on the deluxe edition of their 2015 debut that comes out three days before the performance.
Other recently-added Grammys performers include Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Adele, Rihanna, the cast of Hamilton, and a BB King tribute by Chris Stapleton, Gary Clark Jr and Bonnie Raitt.
Alice Cooper is also touring this spring. Listen to the Hollywood Vampires song "My Dead Drunk Friends" below...

Earlier this week, Rihanna tweeted that she was listening to her much-delayed new album ANTI, implying its release was imminent. Billboard then said it'd be out this week, and earlier tonight a TIDAL user noticed that it was (probably accidentally) uploaded to the streaming service. It was quickly taken down, but not before TIDAL users were able to leak it.
The leak reveals a few interesting things about this record. It doesn't feature any of last year's singles, including the great "Bitch Better Have My Money" (or "FourFiveSeconds" or "American Oxygen"). It does include the Drake collaboration "Work" that came out today (not her first Drake collab, of course) and that explains why she called it ANTI's lead single earlier. Also,
unless a really good Rihanna impostor threw this in the leak, it includes a cover of Tame Impala's "New Person, Same Old Mistakes" (retitled "Same Ol' Mistakes"), the last track on last year's Currents. This means RiRi turned down a Grimes song but would've happily taken a Tame Impala song.
The only credited guest aside from Drake is SZA on opening track "Consideration," though The Weeknd, The-Dream and Travi$ Scott all worked on "Woo." Producers include DJ Mustard ("Needed Me"), Timbaland ("Yeah, I Said It"), No I.D. ("Higher"), Boi-1da ("Work"), and more. As reported last year, the album was executive produced by Kanye West (whose own new album has quite the saga surrounding it this week as well). Listen to rips of "Work" and the Tame Impala cover, with the tracklist, below.
UPDATE: Now that it leaked, the album is officially out. You can listen here if you have TIDAL (and otherwise you can hear samples). And that Tame Impala cover is in fact real.
UPDATE 2: It's now a free download for a limited time only, using the code ANTI.
UPDATE 3 (1/28): The deluxe edition is out now with three bonus tracks: "Goodnight Gotham," "Pose," and "Sex With Me." "Goodnight Gotham" is a remix of Florence + the Machine's song "Only If For A Night."
This probably won't be a surprise, but early listens reveal that much of it is in the vein of atmospheric R&B that's dominated both pop and indie for a few years now. And more so than her other recent releases, it feels built to be an "album album," as superstar albums in the post-Yeezus/The 20/20 Experience/BEYONCÉ world often are. (Her last, 2012's Unapologetic, came out before those three did.) It's pretty good stuff to these ears. What do you think?

Young Thug is set to follow his Slime Season and Slime Season 2 mixtapes with the third installment, Slime Season 3, and he just revealed the release date: February 5. Meanwhile, possibly unrelated to SS3, Thugger hooked back up with "Stoner" producer Dun Deal for the new song "Top Notch." This one's way more of a straight-up club banger than the weirdo-rap of "Stoner," but Thug can pull this sound off too. It features Young Dro and additional production from Niko The Kid. Check it out below.
There are also hints being dropped that Young Thug may appear on Kanye West's Swish, due February 11. Chance the Rapper is also rumored, and Kendrick Lamar and Ty Dolla $ign are confirmed. As you've quite possibly heard, 'Ye posted the handwritten tracklist last night with the message, "So happy to be finished with the best album of all time." It features previous singles "Wolves," "Fade," "Real Friends," and "No More Parties In LA." Check out the whole thing below.
Pitchfork have published their 100 Best Tracks of 2015 list. The criteria was "any track that was released in 2015 or had its greatest impact in the U.S. during this year was eligible," which allows for stuff like 2014 releases from Fetty Wap and D'Angelo to count. Including guest appearances, Kendrick Lamar shows up four times, two of which are in the top five. Drake, Grimes, Jamie xx and Future all show up three times each. It includes a few singles off 2016 albums, like David Bowie's "Blackstar," ANOHNI's "4 Degrees" and Savages' "The Answer," one-off collaborations like WOKE (aka Flying Lotus, Thundercat and Shabazz Palaces), last-minute 2015 releases like Jeremih's "Oui," and surprise comeback singles like Missy Elliott's "WTF (Where They From)." If you were wondering, Adele's "Hello" is here (ranked very high), and yes, so is Justin Bieber. There's also some representation from less commercial stuff like the hardcore band G.L.O.S.S..
Check out the whole list below...
Like last year, The FADER have listed their favorite tracks of the year. They picked 107, "because 100 just wasn't enough." It's got two Drake songs in the top 10, and a Skepta song cracks it too (grime in general is pretty well-represented). A certain former bubblegum pop singer who's becoming a popular choice for #1 is #1 here too. Mixed into the mostly rap/R&B/electronic pop list is Adele, some country representation from Chris Stapleton and Kacey Musgraves, lo-fi DIY from Sheer Mag and Girlpool, and a few other outliers. Check out the whole list, and a Spotify playlist of it, below.

Please: Do everything you possibly can in one lifetime.— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) September 23, 2015
Twitter released their '2015 YEAR ON TWITTER' today. No real surprises as far as THE MOST POPULAR MUSICIANS go, and that includes Kendrick "11 Grammy Nominations" Lamar. Nothing very "indie" about this list either, but for those who love music industry data, you can peruse all the music-related stuff, below.

We already saw Rolling Stone's top 50 albums of 2015, and now they unveiled their top 50 songs too. It's got a lot of the songs you couldn't avoid this year even if you wanted to: "Hello," "Hotline Bling," "Trap Queen," plenty of The Weeknd, one appearance by Justin Bieber. There's also indie rock anthems like Titus Andronicus' "Dimed Out," "Kurt Vile's "Pretty Pimpin," Courtney Barnett's "Pedestrian at Best"and Tame Impala's "Let It Happen," a nod towards raw DIY with Sheer Mag's "Fan the Flames," and a lot more. Check the whole thing out below.

photo: A$AP Ferg in Queens in 2014 (more by Gretchen Robinette)
Late last year, A$AP Ferg returned with the new mixtape Ferg Forever, a nice tide-over while we wait for the followup to his excellent Trap Lord. In the past week, he's dropped videos for two of that mixtape's tracks. The first was for "Doe-Active," directed by Spike Jordan and featuring a cameo from Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig, and the second was for "Dope Walk," directed by Matt Starr and featuring appearances by Kanye West, Beyonce, A$AP Rocky, Big Sean, Haim, Rihanna and Justin Bieber. Watch both below.

You probably know by now that Kanye West and Paul McCartney have teamed up not only once but twice this year, most recently for the Rihanna collaboration, "FourFiveSeconds" (also featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Dirty Projectors frontman Dave Longstreth). They've now given that song a video, directed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, and you can check it out below.
It's also been announced that Paul, Kanye and Rihanna will all perform together at the Grammy Awards Ceremony this Sunday. Other performers include Madonna, AC/DC, John Legend & Common, Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett, Gwen Stefani & Adam Levine, Pharrell, Usher, maybe Beyonce and definitely not Taylor Swift.
Kanye and Paul will also be on SNL 40 the following Sunday. "FourFiveSeconds" video below...

Grimes at Governors Ball 2014 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Grimes recently wrote a song with Blood Diamonds titled "Go" that was supposed to be for Rihanna, but when the pop singer turned it down, Grimes decided to keep it for herself and debuted it at Governors Ball. Now the studio version has been released and it's a big pop song (complete with an EDM-style drop) that you can definitely tell was written for a star. It's still got some Grimes-ness to it though. Check it out for yourself below. Not many details yet, but a new full length is in the works for Grimes too.
Warpaint in Austin in April (more by Tim Griffin)
In a recent interview with Q, Theresa Wayman of Warpaint said some pretty negative things about Beyonce and Rihanna...
"She [Rihanna] has an insane voice, she could've done something so much more stuble and artful," suggests the Warpaint's Theresa Wayman, who also was dismayed by Beyonce's recent adoption of twerking.Since then, she has taken to Facebook to apologize and explain. Theresa's note begins:
"It just gets worse," she adds. "Every song on Beyonce's last album has her basically looking like a slut and she does not need to do that. She's gorgeous and so fucking talented. And they all take it as women's liberation!"
First and foremost, I want to apologize with regards to the Q article. There were many long conversations behind that statement and it's heartbreaking and painful to see it presented in such a hyperbolic and crude manner. We LOVE and ADORE Beyonce and Rihanna, genuinely, and that's what makes this all the more difficult.Read the full letter below.
A journalist came on our bus and casually asked us what we thought about women in music and we responded as fans and consumers and not as card carrying feminists. Not as anybody with power or influence either. We're not trying to start a war, no fucking way. We would be crushed like little lady flies.
That tour hits the NYC-area at MetLife Stadium where Rihanna also plays on her tour with Eminem.
Warpaint headlines a free Celebrate Brooklyn show in Prospect Park on June 26.

The Blow @ MHOW, November 2013 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
While not as unexpected as My Bloody Valentine or Mazzy Star, The Blow released their first new full-length in seven years, which NPR's Bob Boilen just named his #1 album of 2013. One of the songs off The Blow, ""You're My Light," just got a remix by Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij and you can stream that below.
Meanwhile, singer Khaela Maricich just gave us her Top 10 of 2013. Most of it is music related, but there are art and TV choices in there too, and she provides commentary as well. You can check out that list below.
In other news, The Blow wrapped up their tour not too long ago and are already looking towards the next record:
We are in the west, taking a bit of a break. Soon, we will be even farther west, as far as one can go, and recording a new album. We won't stay west forever, the east will pull us back, we will just be here long enough to pretend that we are living in the seventies with a sailboat and a hammock and a lot of good parties in the hills.Let's hope we don't have to wait seven years for the next one.
Check out Khaela's Top 10 list and that remix below...

Grimes at ACL 2013 (more by Tim Griffin)
Whether it's to criticize her or praise her, it's hard to deny that people like talking about Grimes' musical opinions. Her top 10 albums of 2012 list included the most pop (Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber) AND the least pop (Swans), and she totally meant it too. She's defended Beyonce, Mariah Carey, and pop music in general, and denied accusations of trolling when her Boiler Room set included Taylor Swift, Maria Carey, Ramones, Skrillex, and others.
Grimes has now published a list to her tumblr of her favorite songs of all time. It continues her trend of pulling from pop and experimental music with songs from Burial, Mariah Carey, Joanna Newsom, Beyonce, Mazzy Star, Skrillex, Animal Collective, Butthole Surfers, Paramore and more. It's not only newer stuff though, she's also got Patsy Cline, Prince, and Enya, among others.
Check out her whole list (subject to change), via Exclaim, below...
A Harlem woman claims in a lawsuit that she got herpes at a Rihanna concert in Brooklyn from lipstick the singer endorsed. The alleged incident went down May 7 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn (the 2nd of two shows Rihanna played there and the one that was rescheduled).
Starkeema Greenidge, 28, alleges she contracted the virus when a representative of MAC Cosmetics applied a used tube of RiRi Woo to her smackers.
"I wasn't able to work for two weeks. It cost me a lot of money," Greenidge, a waitress, told the Daily News on Wednesday.
She said she slapped MAC with the suit in Manhattan Supreme Court in hopes of forcing the company to be more sanitary in the future. Greenidge also said the company should train its employees to use disposable tubes or swabs to apply the lipstick. [Daily News]
A$AP Rocky at FFF Fest 2012 (more by Tim Griffin)
As mentioned, Rihanna is on a tour with A$AP Rocky which was set to hit NYC this weekend on May 4 and 5 at Barclays Center. The May 5 show is still on, but the May 4 show has been rescheduled to May 7 due to Game 7 of the Brooklyn Nets-Chicago Bulls NBA Playoffs series. Barclays center CEO Brett Yormark stated, "We are looking forward to a special concert and I hope Rihanna will be our guest at Game 7."
Tickets for the May 4 show will be honored on May 7, and refunds will be available at the original point of purchase. Both shows are currently sold out.
As just mentioned, A$AP Rocky has been announced (along with Kendrick Lamar, Miguel, Wu-Tang, and others) for this year's Hot 97 Summer Jam at MetLife Stadium on June 2 (tickets). He also plays more NYC-area dates in August on his tour with Wiz Khalifa, Joey Bada$$, Rockie Fresh, Smoke DZA and others.

UPDATE: A$AP Rocky & Rihanna's show in Houston tonight is also cancelled, though that is probably a coincidence.

In other Jigga news, the man who REALLY started from the bottom (sorry, Drake- lol) has moved his Roc Nation venture away from Columbia Records and back to Universal:
News comes today from Jay & Roc Nation themselves that they've decided on Universal Music Group as their parent label, departing from multi-year deals that had Roc Nation records, including the most successful release from the company thus far, J. Cole's 2011 debut Cole World: The Sideline Story, releasing on Columbia Records.... Roc Nation's next release, which appears to be J. Cole's oft-delayed, but highly-anticipated sophomore effort Born Sinner, will be released on Roc Nation/Universal Music Group. -[The Source]Roc Nation currently houses J. Cole, Jay Electronica and others, while managing such names as Rihanna, Meek Mill, Wale, Timbaland, and No I.D.

Chris Brown, clearly a fan of The Exploited
As you can see above, Municipal Waste reacts to the "fashionable punk jacket" worn by R&B vocalist Chris Brown which, as Tony from Municipal Waste points out, is eerily similar to one worn by ex-girlfriend Rihanna on the back cover of her brand new album, Unapologetic, which was released today (11/20).
Its definitely jacket weather out there, so it wouldnt be too farfetched to expect Rihanna to wear hers to Webster Hall tonight (11/20), a last minute promo show for her record release today that is also the close of her "777" tour. Her tour with A$AP Rocky is in 2013 and hits two nights at the Barclays Center.
Check out the back of Chris's jacket below...
