Rilo Kiley's new album Under the Blacklight is streaming at MySpace. Listening to it brings me to another place, and by 'another place', I mean the waiting room at my dentist's office, or a really, really long elevator ride.
Indie darling and Rilo Kiley frontwoman, Jenny Lewis explains: "As a woman, the older I get the more comfortable I feel writing about sex and singing about it, whereas in my late teens and early 20s I wouldn't have dared. But now I feel comfortable enough where I can start writing about sex -- not necessarily about my own experiences, but the sexual lives of others. And the somewhat deviant sexual lives of others." [The Music Slut]Rilo Kiley 's new album Under the Blacklight is out Aug. 21, 2007, and it's around then that they'll be touring for a few months. All tour dates haven't been announced yet, but quite a few of them are out there already, including September 22nd & 23rd @ Webster Hall - $25.00 each. All tour dates below....
Huh, Who, What?...
"Rilo Kiley vocalist/guitarist and Elected frontman Blake Sennett has been busting his behind lately. Between helping a friend record, preparing for the release of the new Elected album, and listening to way too much of the Eagles, Sennett still makes time for the important things in life, like fixing up the homebase. All of which he talked about when Pitchfork spoke to him last week.
Currently, Sennett is holed up in a cabin studio in Lake Arrowhead, California, where he's busy working on an album by friends Whispertown 2000, for release on Rilo Kiley's own label, Brute/Beaute. The record is scheduled for a March release, at which point the band will tour with Rilo Kiley frontwoman Jenny Lewis as she supports her solo debut, Rabbit Fur Coat, due January 24 on Team Love." [Pitchfork]
"Rock legends David Bowie and Cream, country icon Merle Haggard and late comedy innovator Richard Pryor are among the recipients of the 2006 Grammy Lifetime Achievement awards, which will be formally acknowledged Feb. 7 and then presented the next evening during the live Grammy telecast on CBS." [Billboard]
[The Arcade Fire should be watching from the audience.]

Rilo Kiley plays their 2nd of two shows at Webster Hall in NYC tonight (May 27th). They'll be back in September on a much larger stage - Madison Square Garden. All Coldplay/Rilo tour dates below...
Those of us in NYC have two chances to see Rilo Kiley next week at Webster Hall. May 26th & 27th. Portastic and The Brunettes (who also recently played with the Shins in the same venue) open the show. The rest of the dates.
Filter has the video for Portion for Foxes.
Monday night I went to see the Dentyne-sponsored, teacher benefiting, $5.00 Ben Kweller & The Walkmen show at Irving Plaza (pics at I Rock I Roll & The Modern Age) (The Features played too, but I missed them). Not really a Kweller fan, but it was pretty cool when he brought Evan Dando, of the Lemonheads fame, on the stage to cover Creedence Clearwater Revival's "have you ever seen the rain?"
Is Rilo Kiley really such a hit? I guess so. They're headlining two nights in a row at Webster Hall.
Apparently Lena Horne really loves Whitney Houston. How do I know? Whitney was given permission by Lena to play Lena in an upcoming movie. Whitney entered rehab right after getting the confirmation.
Head over to "Revolution in the Head" to download a live version of Rilo Kiley's It's a Hit, an MP3 of Evan Dando covering Whitney Houston's How Will I Know, and three more songs.
