The 2016 edition of Moogfest will happen May 19 - 22 in Durham, North Carolina. This year's lineup includes Explosions in the Sky, Sunn O))), Gary Numan, Blood Orange, Julianna Barwick, The Orb, Holly Herndon, Daniel Lanois, Simian Mobile Disco, Ben Frost, Floating Points, Kode9, Hundred Waters, Empress Of, Mad Professor, Moses Sumney, Mac McCaughan, Lunice, Ryan Hemsworth, Tim Hecker, YACHT and more. Festival passes are on sale now.
Numan will be performing his first three albums (Replicas, The Pleasure Principle, and Telekon) over three nights at three different venues. Laurie Anderson will also perform her show "The Language of the Future" that weaves stories and songs, and will also appear at a Moogfest "in conversation" event. Reggie Watts (who is also appearing) announces the lineup in a video with one of his improvised loop pedal performances, which you can watch below. Warm Up 2013 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Each year, the Warm Up summer concert series brings forward thinking electronic music (and other related genres like indie pop, hip hop, etc) to the outdoor courtyard at Long Island City's MoMA PS1. This year's shows happen every Saturday from June 28 to September 6 from 3-9 PM (doors at noon). Admission is $18 in advance or $20 day-of.
Artists playing this year include Evian Christ (DJ), Lone (live), Sophie, Forest Swords (all the same day!), Cibo Matto (live), Pantha du Prince (live), Dam-Funk, Dutch E Germ, George Fitzgerald, Martyn, Simian Mobile Disco (live), Cashmere Cat, Vatican Shadow (live), Container (live), Jam City, Shamir (live), The Range (live) and many more.

As usual, newish Williamsburg dance club Output has a ton of great upcoming shows, including James Murphy, Rustie, Zomby, SBTRKT (DJ set), the just-mentioned Duke Dumont show, and a number of Bunker parties. A bunch of other good shows were recently announced too, including...
German producer DJ Koze, who released Amygdala, an excellent guest-filled album with Caribou, Apparat, Matthew Dear, Milosh (of Rhye) and more, this year, will play an "extended set" at Blkmarket's daytime/night time party at Output on August 10. That party also includes sets from John Roberts (live), Carsten Jost, Taimur & Fahad, and Ostrich. Tickets for that one are on sale now. You can stream Amygdala in its entirety below.
Resident Advisor is throwing a party at the venue, that will sprall across the main room and the Panther Room, on August 3, which includes sets from Robert Hood as Floorplan, Shifted, Holly Herndon, MGUN, Marcellus Pittman, Joey Anderson, and more TBA. And lastly (for now), one of those Bunker parties we were talking about above is an especially notable one happening on August 2 with Demdike Stare headlining. The 14th edition of Mutek, Montreal's annual "international festival of digital creativ and electronic music," will happen May 29 - June 2. The festival has released the initial line-up of performers, including Matthew Herbert, Andy Stott, Jamie Lidell, John Talabot, Martyn, Onra and more. Mutek Passports (good for the whole fest) and Weekend Passes (good for 5/31 - 6/2) are on sale now.
Matthew Herbert will have a very busy 2013. In addition to a new album, End of Silence, which was constructed from just one sound, he's got a 130 track compilation titled Herbert Complete which collects his house-oriented productions. That digital-only comp will be out in March and his new album a month later. He's also working with the England's Royal Opera House to create a work based on Faust that will premiere in 2014.
