DJ Dodger Stadium made this week's Warm Up/FADER Mix, and you download that above, or stream it below.

Meanwhile, Julio Bashmore got to NYC a little earlier in the week to open for fellow Jessie Ware collaborators Disclosure at their Central Park show with TNGHT. At that show, Sam Smith joined Disclosure on stage for "Latch," and he plays his own NYC show TONIGHT (8/8) at Mercury Lounge (sold out). Support at the show comes from Lawrence Rothman, who we also just caught at Glasslands last night (8/7).

Broad Channel - The Forgotten Town -- 11/3/2012
Hurricane Sandy's aftermath in Rockaway on 11/3/12

Jimmy McGovern, operations chief with New York City's Sanitation Department, is tasked with clearing what superstorm Sandy left smashed onto the streets of this neighborhood, where he has lived for the last 20 years.

"I can visualize what it used to look like before, it's heartbreaking," he said. "Nobody ever thought it would be like this." [WSJ]

Earlier today Congressman Anthony Weiner came out of Twitter retirement, not with words or lude pictures, but just with a reminder via a YouTube link that the "Rockaway Needs Us." You can watch the video he was promoting below.

Now, over a week after Hurricane Sandy first devastated the Queens community, another storm is brewing, which for people in the Rockaways especially, is more than just an inconvenience...

A week after superstorm Sandy caused massive damage and power outages, some New York and New Jersey residents been evacuated ahead of a nor'easter that is expected to bring high winds and rain to the region.

More than 620 nursing home residents in New York City's storm-battered Rockaways section were evacuated Tuesday. In New Jersey, winds were kicking up early Wednesday morning prompting some coastline communities to order mandatory evacuations.

Today's nor'easter isn't expected to be as bad as Sandy, but with more than 423,000 without power in New Jersey and more than 66,000 without power in New York City, officials are worried about residents hunkered down in damaged homes with no power.

Forecasters said Tuesday that the storm looks like it will be weaker than expected as it has veered farther offshore than earlier projections indicated. Still, winds could gust up to at least 50 mph in New York and New Jersey Wednesday afternoon and into the evening.

Storm surges could reach up to 3 feet on the coast lines. The highest recorded storm surge during Sandy in New York was 13.88 feet. [ABC News]

Evacuations also mean more people in shelters, and more people in shelters throughout the five boroughs mean more volunteers needed (though not in the Rockaways today - Wednesday). Do you live near the Park Slope Armory? Do you speak Russian? As always, keep an eye on NYCService and Occupy Sandy for ways to help (in the Rockaways, Red Hook, Staten Island, Coney Island, Long Island and elsewhere - possibly right near your apartment). Have a sleeping bag?

Looking for fun ways to help? Attend or play a benefit show.

BV photographer Gretchen Robinette, whose pictures you recently saw from Red Hook and Staten Island, also headed out to the Rockaways the other day and snapped some shots (like Belle Harbor resident Paul Lurrie did before her). More of those and a bunch of videos, below...

As discussed here, constantly on TV, in the papers and elsewhere, Hurricane Sandy decimated the Rockaways last week and the people there can still use your help, though it's great to hear stuff like this:

Volunteers showed up in droves today and the residents of Rockaway cannot thank you enough. We have had such positive feedback from the community, calling you "angels" and "superheroes." These folks are eternally grateful, as are we! For anyone who volunteered today, please feel free to share your experience with the group. THANK YOU!
Head to the Rockaway Relief Facebook page or NYCService.org to find out how you can help.

On Friday (11/2), Belle Harbor resident and photographer Paul Lurrie took some photos of the devastation around his neighborhood and in the neighboring and also mourning Neponsit, Queens (The Rockaways consist of Arverne, Bayswater, Belle Harbor, Breezy Point, Far Rockaway, Hammels, Neponsit, Rockaway Beach, Rockaway Park, Roxbury, and Seaside). Rockaways home post-Sandy (via @box_of_rox)
Rockaways

Standing in front of his sister's severely damaged property on 137th and Cronston, 44-year-old Thomas Callahan, whose home and business had both been flooded out, was asked when he expected power to return. "It could be up to thirty days and we have no gas for generators," he said. A creeping cold was settling in as he estimated that "eighty percent" of his neighbors had not evacuated, as the majority of them had heeded official warnings and left before hurricane Irene hit last year, an event which wound up causing the peninsula little damage. "That gave them a false sense of security, so they stayed. Even the older folks," Callahan added, puffing on a cigarette.

But this time, he said, the water came up so high, "kids were kayaking through the neighborhood." The damage that water wrought was all around: knocked down trees, piles of rubble, and bombed out yards.

Further west, on Rockaway Beach Blvd, a dozen people were huddled near a closed gas station waiting for a bus in the pitch darkness. None of them had flashlights. They had been waiting for forty minutes, said one, Kevin Smith, who had spent three and a half hours getting into Manhattan that morning so he could find a place to work with power. Asked about the restoration of heat, water and electric, Smith-who like many on the peninsula, lives in a large apartment complex and has no running water-said, "I think that's something we're all very concerned about, and a lot of the residents around here just weren't prepared, no flashlights candles or nothing." - [Animal]

Between the destruction by winds and water, and the horrific fire at Breezy Point, The Rockaways were possibly the hardest hit area in the Five Boroughs by Hurricane Sandy. If you've seen photos or video (not this one) from the area or lived it like NY1's Bob Hardt, you know the devastation is jaw-dropping. The whale is gone, the boardwalk is gone, the skate park is gone, disabled senior citizens from nursing homes remain in makeshift shelters all around the city... the list goes on. A few more pictures from the wreckage are below. If you'd like to help there's a Rockaway Relief group on Facebook that culling relief efforts.

Meanwhile, Coney Island, Staten Island, Long Island, Red Hook, DUMBO, The South Street Seaport, New Jersey, and many, many other areas can use some help too. No matter where you are, you can probably find a way to help.

Make sure to catch the telethon on NBC tonight too.

Vast Aire
Vast Aire

Here's a musical way you can help. Vast Aire of hip hop duo Cannibal Ox will be playing a Brooklyn show this Saturday (11/3) at Knitting Factory with The Kominas, Rebelmatic, Orginal Text, Sav Killz, and Propaganda Anonymous. At the show, Concept Mindspray will be collecting donations to send to the Rockways. "Please help with whatever you can. Most needed are clothes, water, canned food, batteries, flashlights etc..." Tickets for Saturday's show are on sale now. It appears to be the only announced Vast Aire date at the moment.

Show flier is below, along with some Instagrams from post-Sandy Rockaways.
