Engelbert

Neil Diamond is not the only classic pop crooner with a new album...

"Engelbert Calling" is the new album and the first ever duets album from the legendary and incomparable Engelbert Humperdinck. Known as the world's greatest balladeer, this collection is his 80th album release, arriving more than 45 years after his massive hit "Release Me" reached #1 on the pop charts and created a worldwide frenzy. This new album comes as a celebration of his remarkable career which has spanned nearly five decades and includes sales of more than 150 million albums world-wide, including 24 certified with platinum status and 63 with gold.

The album was produced by Grammy award winner Martin Terefe, who is best-known for his work with Jason Mraz, James Morrison, KT Tunstall, and Mary J Blige. "Working with Engelbert is such a truly remarkable experience," Terefe stated when asked about his work with Engelbert. "He is without a doubt one of the best singers around today and brings so much other musical knowledge to the table."

"He is one of the sweetest and nicest people I have ever worked with," Elton John said about his experience collaborating with Engelbert. "We had a great time singing together and he is so quick, what I call a 'one-take singer,' 76 years old and still sounding as good as ever!"

"I am grateful to have had the opportunity to partner up with some of the best artists in the history of music." Engelbert said about the album. "To continue putting out successful albums after 45 years in the business is a real testament to the loyalty of my great fans and this album is a 'thank you' to all of them."

Engelbert Calling is available today at music retailers nationwide and online.

Ron Sexsmith @ Highline Ballroom
Ron Sexsmith

In the documentary film about Ron Sexsmith, "Love Shines," Elvis Costello casts the Canadian musician in the same realm as one of rock 'n' roll's historic performers.

"I think Ron has got one of the purest seams of melody, that he has access to exclusively, since Paul McCartney," Costello says.

There's no higher praise, but some folks are undoubtedly saying "Who's Ron Sexsmith?"

...He's just released a fantastic album, "Long Player Late Bloomer," which features the production of Bob Rock, best known for his work with Metallica, Bon Jovi and Motley Crue. The biopic "Love Shines" premiered recently at South By Southwest, and Sexsmith made a national television appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

Sexsmith admits he's excited, a far cry from the melancholy that haunted him after his previous album, "Exit Strategy of the Soul," more or less tanked. When Rock agreed to produce "Long Player" Sexsmith's joy was leavened by a sense of disbelief. -[Pittsburgh Tribune-Review]

"Love Shines" was an audience favorite at SXSW.

Speaking of Elvis Costello, who is playing a solo set at this year's Newport Folk Fest, he's playing a small, late show at Gramercy Theatre tonight (4/1), and probably something before that too. Those staying home can catch him on TV.

Ron Sexsmith played Highline Ballroom on Monday (3/28), part of his US tour with Caitlin Rose in support of the new LP Long Player Late Bloomer which is out now.

More pictures from that show (including one of the setlist), tour dates, videos from Kimmel and SXSW, the documentary trailer & more, below...

In addition, Hard Bargain is now available for pre-order at nonesuch.com with an exclusive manuscript lyric sheet of the album's opening track, "The Road," a number of which will be autographed by Harris.

In celebration of the release, Harris will embark on a series of performances including a showcase at the 2011 SXSW Music and Media Conference as well as special intimate shows in New York and Los Angeles. Additionally, on April 27, Harris will perform on the Late Show with David Letterman."

Emmylou Harris's NYC show happens at Bowery Ballroom on April 26th, the date of the Hard Bargain release. Tickets go on AMEX presale Wednesday (3/9) at noon, and regular sale on Friday.

Hard Bargain contains 11 new songs and two covers. The covers are of songs by Ron Sexsmith and producer Jay Joyce. Full track list below.

Ron Sexsmith will hit Highline Ballroom on March 28th as part of a tour that kicks off in North America at the end of March and then hops the pond at the tail end of April for dates in Europe. The shows are in celebration of his new LP Long Player Late Bloomer which is out now and with a bonus DVD via his site.

Some of Ron's tour, including the Highline show, is with Caitlin Rose who is also heading to SXSW soon, and is touring with Johnny Flynn in May. That brings her back to NYC to play Bowery Ballroom on May 28th.

All tour dates for all of them, Emmylou's LP track list, and some videos, below....
