We Were Promised Jetpacks at BV-CMJ (more by BBG)
We Were Promised Jetpacks

Scotland's We Were Promised Jetpacks spent their Mischief Night (10/30) at Webster Hall in NYC. We invited the band's frontman Adam Thompson into a studio earlier that day to record a session for BrooklynVegan (stay tuned). He told us it was maybe the largest headlining show of their career so far. It was definitely their largest in NYC, and much larger than the show they played for us at Knitting Factory during CMJ. How was it?

Opening at Webster were Royal Bangs and Bear Hands who are still on tour with the Jetpacks. They're making their way towards Austin for Fun Fun Fun Fest where WWPJP will play the fest while BH and RB will link up with Dom & Pujol for a FFF Nites set on 11/6.

Bear Hands return to NYC and headline Music Hall of Williamsburg on 12/16 with guest Fort Lean. Tickets go on AMEX presale at noon on Wed (11/2) and regular sale on Friday. Fort Lean will ALSO be at Le Poisson Rouge on 11/26 as part of the 2nd Annual Voidwell Homecoming Dance with Gordon Voidwell and his band, Emil and Friends, Emily Warren & The Betters and a DJ set from Aaron Pfenning (tickets).

All dates and WWPJ's new video for "Human Error", from their new LP In The Pit Of The Stomach, below...

Hopscotch 2011

The second annual Hopscotch Festival will go down in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, across 12 different venues with over 135 bands, from September 8th through 10th. The lineup this year runs the gamut of independent music... from traditional indie staples (The Flaming Lips, Guided By Voices, Superchunk) to southern-inflected rock (Drive-By Truckers) to noise (Prurient) to hip hop (Beans) to garage (Jeff The Brotherhood) to funk (Budos Band) to metal (Krallice), and everywhere in between (Swans, Rhys Chatham, etc etc). Tickets are currently on sale. Full lineup is below.

Hopscotch happens almost three months after Guided By Voices play a Brooklyn Northside Festival show in McCarren Park (tickets) which is one day after Beirut plays a Northside Festival show on the same McCarren Park stage with... Sharon Van Etten (though she may have been accidentally announced at one point, they officially kept her placement on the bill under wraps until after Saturday's Music Hall of Williamsburg show). Tickets for Beirut/SVE are still on sale, and another opener will be added too.

Guided by Voices (whose Brooklyn show also has more openers coming) are also playing Pitchfork in July with Animal Collective whose Prospect Park show is now on AmEx presale.

Swans' upcoming NYC show is now on AmEx presale too.

Hopscotch lineup below...

Alex Winston @ Communion
Alex Wintson

Communion, the party co-founded by Mumford & Sons' Ben Lovett, held its first U.S. event on Jan 9th at Public Assembly in Brooklyn. The night included sets by Alex Winston, Emil & Friends, Marques Toliver, Pearl and The Beard, Bobby Long, & Simone Felice, with DJs Neon Gold, Sean Glass and The Knocks. A set of pictures from that show are in this post.

The party continues on January 30th at Public Assembly. On that date Communion will host Royal Bangs, Ambassadors, Sarah Jarosz, David Mayfield Parade, Dawn Landes, and .... Laura Marling whose only other show is opening for Iron & Wine on 1/25 at the Wiltern in LA. Advanced tickets are on sale (and note: this will probably sell out).

Of all of the participants in the 1/30 show, only one is advertising other upcoming NYC dates and that's Austin's Sarah Jarosz...

"Sarah Jarosz is a bluegrass multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter whose first CD, Song Up in Her Head, was released by Sugar Hill Records on June 16, 2009. She was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Country Instrumental Performance for the track "Mansinneedof" from that album. Sarah was born in Austin, Texas on May 23, 1991..." [Wikipedia]
Sarah will play Rockwood Music Hall one night before Public Assembly, as well as on February 26th and April 16th. All of her dates, and a bunch of other Royal Bangs dates, and more pictures and some videos from the first Communion, below...

Lollapalooza

"The 2010 Lollapalooza line-up is official: Soundgarden, Green Day, Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, and Phoenix will headline, joined by Social Distortion, MGMT, Jimmy Cliff, Hot Chip, and The Black Keys. With 130 bands on this year's bill, its sure to be a weekend long feast for the ears.

It's a monumental year for Lollapalooza, filled with homecomings, reunions, and first-times. Soundgarden, 1992 and 1996 Lollapalooza alumni, return to the Lollapalooza stage for their first performance since 1997. Green Day will rock Grant Park sixteen years after their first Lollapalooza appearance. While Lady Gaga will headline the festival only three short years after playing the BMI stage at Lollapalooza 2007.

Arcade Fire returns to Grant Park, having played the reincarnated Lollapalooza in 2005. This is the first Lollapalooza for The Strokes - and also their first show in four years. And making their Lollapalooza debut: Phoenix." - Lollapalooza
After extremely accurate early leaks and then much teasing, Lollapalooza oficially announces this year's lineup. Check it out below...

Danzig

August 25th, 2009 (Austin, TX) - Transmission Entertainment is pleased to announce the lineup for the 2009 Fun Fun Fun Fest, taking place on November 7th and 8th at Waterloo Park in Austin. What started out as a show for a few touring acts and local favorites has become a movement -- a festival that fans and bands alike realize needs to be experienced year after year.

Now in its fourth year, Fun Fun Fun Fest has made a significant impact on the country's winter calendar, successfully combining the vast worlds of indie, punk, rap, electronica and comedy while showcasing some of the city's most unique local businesses.

Drummer

Drummer, the new band featuring Patrick Carney, drummer for the critically acclaimed duo The Black Keys, is poised for the release of their debut album, Feel Good Together. The album is set for release September 29 on Carney's label, Audio Eagle. Carney, who plays bass for the group, joins up with four long time friends-all Ohio-based drummers-to bring the project to life. Drummer is rounded out by: Jamie Stillman of Teeth of the Hydra, formerly of Party of Helicopters (guitar), Jon Finley of Beaten Awake, also formerly of Party of Helicopters (vocals, guitar), Stephen Clements of Houseguest and Six Parts Seven (keys, vocals) and Greg Boyd of Ghostman and Sandman (drums). The band will embark on a fall tour in support of the new album.
So this is what Patrick has been doing while his Black Keys band-mate Dan Auerbach has been touring around in support of his own solo album.

That trip kicks off at Southpaw in Brooklyn on October 8th (tickets on sale Friday), and then hits Mercury Lounge in Manhattan on the 10th (tix now on AmEx presale).
