Squarepusher @ LPR - 7/9/13
Squarepusher

IDM/bass mastermind Squarepusher came to NYC for his first of two pre-Camp Bisco shows at Le Poisson Rouge last night (7/9). He packed the venue, and played an excellent set complete with deafening loud and deep bass, and a killer strobe-heavy light show (for which there was a warning sign at the door). Sensory overload! It got pretty hot in there, but the venue tried to help the crowd cool down by providing free popsicles all night. Support at the show came from worthy newcomer SFV Acid, and pictures of both artists are in this post.

Squarepusher and SFV Acid do it again tonight. Tickets are still available. More pictures from last night below...

Jon Hopkins
Jon Hopkins

As mentioned, London electronic musician Jon Hopkins is releasing his new album, Immunity, on June 4 via Domino. It's heavy on the thick, dancefloor rhythms, but he pays serious attention to creating gorgeous melodies that do more than make your feet move. Take a listen to the entire hour-plus thing for yourself over at NPR.

Jon is celebrating the new album with a previously discussed record release party in NYC at Glasslands on the day of its release (6/4). Openers on that show include California producer SFV Acid (live) and Brooklyn producer Octo Octa. Tickets for that show are still available.

SFV Acid released his debut album, The Dwell, this week (5/28) via UNO NYC. It was allegedly created entirely in Starbucks locations, and channels a rich history of IDM, making him a good fit for the bill with Jon Hopkins. You can stream that album in its entirety below (via FADER).

Octo Octa also released a new album this week, Between Two Selves, which is an ambient take on this whole house revival that's going on. That album can be picked up at the 100% Silk webstore and you can stream one of its tracks, "Please Don't Leave," below. He also plays other hometown shows on Friday (5/31) at Body Actualized Center (143 Troutman), Saturday (6/1) at Bossa Nova Civic Club (1271 Myrtle Ave), and on July 5 at Cameo with Anthony Naples and Magic Touch. Advance tickets for the Cameo show are on sale now.

Back to Jon Hopkins. In addition to his record release party at Glasslands, he'll be returning to NYC this summer for Warm Up at MoMA PS1. He plays on August 31 with a pretty stacked lineup of Cajmere, Liars (live), Lil Silva, IO Echo (live), and Miles. Tickets for all Warm Up shows go on sale June 5 at noon.

Cajmere (aka Curtis Jones), who plays Warm Up with Jon Hopkins, is a '90s Chicago house veteran that you may know from his head-knockin' 1992 single, "Brighter Days" (streaming below), his 1995 single as Green Velvet, "Flash" (also streaming below), or the rest of his long discography. He put out a new album, Too Undeground for the Main Stage, this month and you can stream two tracks from that below too. You can catch him in NYC much sooner when he plays Williamsburg dance club Output on June 6 with Free Magic & Faso and Discovery. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

All Jon Hopkins dates are listed, along with song streams, below...

CFCF at MoMA PS1 in 2010 more by Andrew St. Clair)
CFCF

NYC record label UNO is celebrating their one-year anniversary (or UNOVERSARY) in Brooklyn at 285 Kent on Saturday (4/21) with CFCF's Night Bus, Arca, Shayne from Hood by Air KUHRYE-OO (live), SFV Acid (live), Fur, Gobby (live), Physical Therapy, and special guests. RSVP is open.

NYC's Arca will be performing material off his new Stretch 1 EP, which you can download for free at UNO's website and stream a track from below. The show will be his live vocal debut.

Montreal producer CFCF is billed as CFCF's Night Bus, so we can only assume he'll be delivering material off of his Night Bus mixes. Night Bus is a genre, or as Gorilla vs Bear puts it, "a feeling." His mixes bring together artists like ASAP Rocky and Oneohtrix Point Never, or Elite Gymnastics and Notorious B.I.G. Download Do U Like NIght Bus? at The FADER and stream Night Bus Mix II below. Also check out a remix of CFCF by Physical Therapy, who is also on the lineup.

One last artist I'd like to highlight from the lineup is Mykki Blanco. She's a cross-dresser who writes poetry and also sings/raps. Check out some videos of her reading poetry (via FADER) and song streams below, one of which was produced by Arca.

All videos and streams below...

Inc.

LA electronic duo Inc. (formerly Teen Inc.) released their debut EP 3 this past July via 4AD. The duo is made up of brothers Andrew and Daniel Aged, who, according to 4AD, "spent several years playing, recording and touring with Elton John, Pharrell Williams, Beck, Cee-Lo, amongst others" before forming Inc. On their EP, the brothers have crafted three tracks of downtempo R&B indebted to the LA beat scene with soulful reverb-coated falsettos. You can stream the entire EP below and grab two of its tracks above.

Inc. will play NYC on September 9 at Santos Party House with SFV Acid, Mykki Blanco, and Physical Therapy (DJ) and Brooklyn the next day at The Morgan (9/10). Tickets are on sale now for the Santos show. More details will probably emerge on the Morgan show after the RockYard show this Saturday (9/3) with Pictureplane, White Hills, The Psychic Paramount, Wise Blood, and Realness. According to Inc.'s site, more shows TBD.

Physical Therapy also DJs Warm Up on September 10 as the make up date for last Saturday's cancellation with Tanlines and Teengirl Fantasy.

All dates, a flier, and EP stream below...
