Punk Island

No man is an island. A punk fest? Yeah, we'll allow it.

The colossal Punk Island show spanning various stages in Staten Island on June 21 still requires your support. Last Thursday, the free, all-ages fest presented by MMNY and a Bunch of Punx hit its Kickstarter goal of $9,000. However, this only covers the "bare essentials," per the organizers. Thus, additional support has been requested, along with the news that benefit shows will also be scheduled to help lighten the financial load.

As it currently stands, Punk Island will feature a bill of nearly 100 bands and will encompass seven stages. Beginning in April, Punk Island's Facebook page has announced sets of 14 bands every Monday. Both the stages and currently confirmed bands are listed below. Needless to say, there's a ton more to come.

In other NYC punk news, Sad Boys have scheduled one last Brooklyn date before leaving to tour Japan. The Ground Zero compilation contributors will be joined by Survival, Creeping Dose, and Closet Case at Lulu's on May 8. Tickets are $7 at the door. The show description also mentions, ". . .a fucking balls to the wall 90s ass dance party," following the event in case you weren't sold already.

Find below the announced-so-far roster for Punk Island, a list of stages, and a particularly infectious Sad Boys set recorded for KBOO in 2013.

Black Tusk at the Studio at Webster Hall, in May (more by Keith Marlowe)

East Williamsburg's metal and hardcore venue of record, the Acheron, is heading down to Mexico to host a two day festival, the first annual Acheron D-Fest on February 14 and 15 at Club Bombay in Mexico City. The festival will feature thrashers Toxic Holocaust and Black Tusk at the top of the nearly twenty band bill that includes psych punks Lecherous Gaze and death/grind specialists Skullshitter. If you're more into metal than love, this could be a good way to skip out on Valentine's Day. Head over to D-Fest's Facebook page for more details. Full lineup below.

Toxic Holocaust kick off their previously discussed tour with Ramming Speed in NJ on Saturday (11/16). That tour hits NYC at Saint Vitus on November 29 with In Defence. Tickets for that show are still available.

Toxic Holocaust's new album, Chemistry of Consciousness, is out now, and you can stream it, along with the video for "Acid Fuzz" below. They're also contributing the new track "Life Is a Lie" to Decibel's flexi-disc series, and you can stream that track here.

Also playing D-Fest is Trenchgrinder, who are playing with Eyehategod and Syphilitic Lust at the actual Acheron Saturday night (11/16). The show was recently officially announced after being a "secret," and tickets are still available, but they may not be for much longer considering Eyehategod sold out Saint Vitus last night (11/14).

Check out the full D-Fest lineup, along with all Toxic Holocaust dates, video and LP stream, below...

Hard Skin at Acheron, 8/13/2012
Hard Skin

One part hilarious comedy act and one part damn good oi band, Hard Skin played Acheron to a sold-out house last night (8/13) as part of a short string of dates surrounding their tour around This is Hardcore. Hard Skin was joined by appearances from the fantastic metallic d-beat crew Murderess, NYC punks Sad Boys, Family Fun and Coffin Fit. Pictures from the show are below.

Hard Skin spent half of their set playing uber-catchy Oi and the other half making fun of the crowd, but it was all in the name of a good time. Fat Bob, who you may recognize from the Record Store Dude series (and who is also reportedly an A&R man at Rough Trade), quipped:

"We've come to take your shit American dollars. We've done that so you can all leave."

"Hello New York, the place so shit you had to name it twice."

"You are the country that gave us the Dropkick Murphys. You have that on your conscience."

After a short set (30+ minutes?), the band announced their last song to the grumble of the crowd. Fat Bob responded:

"Shut the fuck up. You pay peanuts, and you get monkeys."

Fat Bob, I disagree.

If you missed Murderess, make sure to get out to Acheron on August 20 where they'll team with Trenchgrinder and Death First to put a cap on their East Coast tour. Dates are below, along with a stream of one track, "For What?" Probably the biggest surprise of the evening and a fantastic live band.

Pictures from last night's Acheron show, that Murderess stream and all Murderess dates are listed below.

Full tour schedule and some audio below...

Terrible Feelings @ Death By Audio
Terrible Feelings

Sweden's Terrible Feelings kicked off their US tour with a show at Death by Audio last night (6/19), playing alongside Death First, Plastic Cross and These Days. From the melodic indie of These Days, the night got steadily more punk as the clocked ticked on and surprisingly didn't change wholly in temperament when the Swedes hit the stage. Though their shiny and slickly produced new LP Shadows suggests polish, Terrible Feelings's live show is much more raw, energetic and primitive in all of the best ways. Comparisons to Masshysteri seem appropriate. Shame on me for not knowing better, considering some of the punk rock company they keep.

If you missed the show, make sure and catch this highly-energetic punk-garage/power-pop band at Acheron on June 30th with another punk-leaning bill: Mutant Genes, Nuclear Spring and Sad Boys.

Mor eictures from Death By Audio are below.

Terrible Feelings

After a string of 7" and EP releases, Terrible Feelings are preparing to release their debut LP Shadows via Deranged Records/Double Sun Recordings. The Swedish band, which toils in garage punk-infused power pop, have released a new video for "Intruders" from the effort and you can view that clip below. Look for Shadows in the US in mid-April via Deranged on vinyl and on CD via Double Sun.

Catch Terrible Feelings on the road on the East Coast this summer including TWO NYC dates: Death By Audio on June 19th with Death First and Acheron on June 30th with Sad Boys, Nuclear Spring and Mutant Genes.

More details on both shows are on the way and their full tour routing is listed below, but they need more help. If you can help with a show, send an email to freewheelbooking at gmail. All current tour dates, that "Intruders" video and streams of previous material. below....

D-Clone at Emo's (more by BBG)
D-Clone

D-Clone and their "wall of noise" are hitting the East Coast for a string of dates in October. So far the entire itinerary hasn't surfaced, but the band will join Zatsuon, Sad Boys, Dead Reich and two more TBA for a show at Acheron on October 6th. Not to be missed.

D-Clone's last US outing was at Chaos in Tejas 2011. They shared the stage with Veins that night, who will also play NYC in the coming weeks at 538 Johnson on April 8th with Raw Nerve (reportedly their last NYC show), Divine Right, Hoax, and Chain Wallet....
