Brooklyn's Low Fat Getting High, who play Big Snow tonight, are releasing a new EP, Bad Yoga, in May via Dead Broke Rekerds (who has put out releases for Nude Beach, Tenement, and others) and Money Fire Records. SAFE is playing a record release show at 285 Kent tonight with a great lineup of Le1f, Heems, Doe Paoro, BLKKATHY and DJ Dapwell. Tickets for tonight's show are still available. Le1f and Dapwell also both just played the Whitney over the weekend.

Le1f at The Studio at Webster Hall in 2012 (more by Julie Schabel)
It's been a little while since we've gotten a show from NYC rapper Le1f, who plays locally a lot, but that will change this Friday (2/8) at Santos Party House, where Le1f will play Frankie Sharp's Friday with DJ Carlos Jadraque, DJ Nita, DICAP, and Joeseph Trotto Junior. It's a late show (11 PM doors) and admission is $10 at the door.
Le1f recently released a new mixtape, Fly Zone, the followup to 2012's tape, Dark York, and like its predecessor, Fly Zone it's got murky beats and Le1f's impressive space age flow. The mixtape's got guest spots from Spank Rock, Haleek Maul, SAFE, Don Jones, Rahel and Kitty (who dropped the "Pryde" from her name, and who plays 285 Kent tonight [2/7]). You can download Fly Zone for free HERE and stream it in full below.
Le1f also appears as a guest on the new Sasha Go Hard mixtape, Round3: The Knockout, on the song "To The Girls." The mixtape also features production from Diplo on a track, and a verse from Kreayshawn on another one. Though Sasha and Le1f work well together, Le1f prefers the futurism of cloud rap, while Sasha's razor sharp flow is rooted in the gangsta rap of yesteryear. You can download that mixtape for free HERE and stream it in full below.

Main Attrakionz at BV-SXSW 2012 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Earlier this month, we mentioned that iPhone/Android app Mobli was throwing a CMJ party with Heems, Sasha Go Hard, Kitty Pryde, Weekend Money, SAFE, The Underachievers, and Party Supplies. That party was supposed to happen today at Delinquency but that venue has since been shut down so the whole lineup (minus The Underachievers and Party Supplies) is merging with the Young One Records showcase, which happens tonight (10/17) at 285 Kent. That showcase, in addition to including the names mentioned above, will have Main Attrakionz, Kool AD, Deniro Farrar, Supreme Cuts, Cities Aviv, Bryant Dope, Ryan Hemsworth, and CBG. SAFE and Ryan Hemsworth are DJing between sets, the rest of the acts are playing live. The show flier and set times are below.
That 285 Kent show is a pretty stacked bill for hip hop, and if you're into stacked hip hop shows like that one, you'll also probably want to check out the Mass Appeal party at Gramercy on Friday (10/19) with Asher Roth, Prodigy (of Mobb Deep), The Alchemist, Large Professor, Mr. Muthafuckin' exquire, Roc Marciano, Boldy James, Ninja Sonik, Bodega Bamz, Alexander Spit, Angel Haze and Timeless Youth. That one's free with RSVP to RSVP@massappeal.com but entry is based on capacity. The flier for this show is below.
As mentioned, Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire also plays SOB's on Thursday (10/18) and an MTV Studio at Webster Hall the same day. That studio show is with Big K.R.I.T. and LE1F, and when we first mentioned it, a "special guest" was billed who has since been revealed as Killer Mike. Tickets for that one are still available.
That MTV show is an early show (5:30 doors) and after that there's a late show with Chuck Inglish (of The Cool Kids), Ninjasonik, ASAP TyY, Blvckalfred, Vault Boys, MopTop, Chase N Cashe, GDP, Vyle, and Curtains. Tickets for that one are still available.
Cities Aviv, in addition to the Young One show, has other CMJ shows, including the Flowerbooking CMJ showcase at Knitting Factory on Friday (10/19) with Unicorn Kid, Ki:Theory, Devin, Ghost Wave, and Talk Normal (tickets) and the Bond Music Group/PopGun show at Cameo Gallery on Friday (10/19) (late show) with Steven A. Clark, Lushlife, Dark Sister, and Pegasus Warning (tickets).
He also plays the free BrooklynVegan day party at Public Assembly on Saturday (10/20) with The Orwells, Eternal Summers, and the rest of the lineup coming soon!
While we're talking about good hip hop shows during CMJ, don't forget the Converse Rubber Tracks/Fool's Gold 5th anniversary show at Music Hall of WIlliamsburg on Saturday (10/20) with Ghostface Killah, A-Trak, Flosstradamus, Donnis, Nick Catchdubs, World's Fair, Troy Ave, and special guests. That one's totally free, first come, first served.
Showcase flier and set times for the Young One/Mobli show are below.
"these are being made into shirts js" - Kitty Pryde
iPhone/Android app Mobli is throwing a CMJ party on October 17 at Deliquency (1031 Grand St) with a mostly hip hop and hip hop-related lineup of Heems (of Das Racist), Sasha Go Hard (who recently made her NYC debut), Kitty Pryde (who also recently played NYC), Das Racist affiliates Weekend Money (aka MC Ne$$ and Baghdaddy), The Underachievers (who are part of Flying Lotus's NYC takeover this week), Action Bronson affiliates Party Supplies, and SAFE (who is on tour now with Das Racist). This 21+ party is free but there's a suggested donation at the door, and there will be an open whiskey and vodka bar all night. Doors are at 7 PM.
The show flier, a list of all Kitty Pryde dates, and a couple videos are below.

LE1F at Santos in September (more by Julie Schabel)
You'll have way more chances to catch LE1F in NYC this month though because he's got a number of CMJ shows lined up. He'll play the Terrible Records party at Glasslands on October 16 with True, Kirin J Callinan, Regal Degal, and more (free with RSVP); the FADER showcase at Rubbertracks on October 17; the MTV Hive showcase at The Studio at Webster Hall on October 18; the Ad Hoc party at 285 Kent on October 19; the PItchfork showcase at new Brooklyn venue Villain on October 19 (which Death Grips also plays); the Cantora afterparty at Westway on October 19 (75 Clarkson St); the Impose Mag showcase at Deliquency on October 20; and Cameo Gallery on October 20 with Labyrinth Ear, High Highs, and American Royality (tickets). Lineups for most of those shows TBA. All LE1F dates are listed below.
In related news, LE1F's tourmates SAFE and Lakutis recently recorded a song together with production from Brooklyn's Steel Tipped Dove that will appear on an upcoming Greedhead compilation, which LE1f, Heems, and others will also be featured on. You can download that song, titled "Neotropical Vacation," above or stream it below (via FADER).

Das Racist at Afro-Punk 2012 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Das Racist were supposed to play Irving Plaza on Thursday (9/27) but have moved it to October 15 which is part of what they've dubbed the "2012 American Rap Songs Tour." (Get tickets here, previously purchased tix will be honored.) The leisurely trek (nine shows in three weeks) also includes s a stop outside of Washington DC for the previously discussed Virgin Mobile FreeFest on 10/6.
Full tour schedule is below, which includes support from LE1F (who played Santos on 9/20), Safe, and Lakutis.
Sasha Go Hard is yet another rapper to emerge from the burgeoning Chicago rap scene, having begun to pick up buzz with her second mixtape, Do U Know Who I Am, which she dropped over the summer. Like fellow Chi Townie Chief Keef (who Sasha has collaborated with in the past but hasn't talked to in a while, and whose grandma says he isn't a gangster), Sasha has been produced by the talented Young Chop (who also helmed the beat on Keef's "I Don't Like") and also by DGainz (who directed the video for "I Don't Like" and also contributed production to the upcoming King L).
In addition to those two guys, the rest of the tape features production by Absolut P, Ur Boy Black, Block On Da Track, DJ Kenn, Southside and J. Hill, in addition to including a few guest rappers from the scene, most notably Katie Got Bandz and Chella H, on closing track, "I'm Hotta." You can download the mixtape for free HERE and stream it, along with the videos for the Young Chop-produced "I Think I Like That" and the DGainz-produced "Tatted," below.
Sasha will be making her way to NYC for the 9th Shortcuts party at Santos Party House on September 20 with LE1F. Tickets for that party are on sale now. The flier is below. She'll also stick around to play 285 Kent on September 22.
The Santos show happens right before LE1F heads out as a support act on the previously discussed Das Racist tour, which also includes support from SAFE and Lakutis, the latter two of who just played Glasslands on Monday (9/10). That tour hits NYC on September 27 at Irving Plaza. Tickets for that show are still available.
An updated list of Das Racist tour dates and the tour flier, plus the Sasha Go Hard streams and videos are below.
Das Racist at Afropunk Festival - 8/25/12 (via BrooklynVegan Instagram)
Das Racist, who played the free Afropunk Festival in Brooklyn's Commodore Barry Park over the weekend (pics of that coming soon), have begun revealing a tour to take place this fall. A full list of dates has not been announced yet, but a few are starting to surface, including Virgin Mobiel FreeFest and a NYC show, which happens on September 27 at Irving Plaza. The group are taking out some of their friends as openers, and for the NYC show it will be Le1f and SAFE. Tickets for that show go on sale today (8/27) at noon.
The Philly show has that same lineup, plus Lakutis, who you can catch along with SAFE in NYC at Glasslands on September 10, with Quinn Walker (of Suckers), Carrie Wilds, Kool AD's Peaceful Solutions project, host Dapwell, and others. Tickets for that show are still available.
Meanwhile, you can also catch Le1f in NYC even sooner when he sets sail aboard a Rocks Off Cruise on August 29 with Big Freedia. Tickets for that show are still available and we're also giving some away.
Heems of Das Racist also plays a solo show in NYC a bit before that at Shea Stadium on September 21 with Smoke DZA, Meyhem Lauren, Children of the Night, and others. Tickets for that show are still available.
A list of all currently known dates and a stream of Das Racist's "Jungle Fever," which features Le1f, are below.

Tickets for that show are on sale now.
Streams and videos from the artists playing are below.

When Chris Edley (aka CF Edley) isn't directing music videos (his credits include MGMT's "Time To Pretend" and "Electric Feel" and Saul Williams' "Convict Colony"), he records and produces music under the moniker SAFE. He put out a self titled EP in March of 2010, which was only available physically as a cassette, but you can download the entire thing for free at his bandcamp. The EP was produced by Jeffrey Brodsky (aka Jeffrey Jerusalem) of YACHT's live band.
His songs take shape from synth lines and drum loops but SAFE doesn't really operate as an electronic project. His songwriting approach puts the emphasis more on his lyrics and chord patterns than the synthetic sounds he uses to convey them. An LP is due out sometime in the future, though little information has surfaced about that. In the meantime, familiarize yourself with the EP and the non-album track, "Carolina," that was released soon after. You can grab MP3s of that track and "Holy Mess" from the EP above.
SAFE has a coule upcoming shows including the Helsing Junction Sleepover in Rochester, WA with The Hive Dwellers, Brainstorm, Tender Forever, and many more. He's also got a NYC show on August 29 at Cameo Gallery with Gem Club, and Evi Antonio. UPDATE: He also plays August 27at Union Pool as part of "The Weekly Revue" variety show.
Gem Club also play Glasslands on September 30 with Youth Lagoon and Gardens & Villa. Tickets for that show are still available.
