Vomitor @ Public Assembly, 12/10/2012

Australian black-thrash crew Vomitor concluded a string of East Coast/Midwest dates in NYC last night at Public Assembly (12/10), joined by tourmates Negative Plane with Salo and Ominous Resurrection. As expected, the Aussies ripped through a set of unholy thrash, snarling their way through close to an hour of rippers before calling it a night by the stroke of 1AM. Negative Plane, who play NYC a few times a year, had clearly benefited immensely from their spate of live shows, with the band ripping the most impressive set that I have ever seen from the crew.
More pictures from Public Assembly are below. The band play their last US date at Red 7 in Austin on Wednesday (12/12) with Hod and Oath of Cruelty.

Speedwolf @ Acheron

Speedwolf is currently touring off of Ride with Death, the band's latest LP out now via Hell's Headbangers. That tour kicked off in early March and included a stop at a BV SXSW Day Party in Austin before they headed towards the Northeast to spread more mayhem. The Denver Motorhead-worshipping speed freaks played Acheron on March 29th with support from Coffin Dust, Dethroned Emperor and Salo. Pictures and video from that show are below...

Woe at Public Assembly (more by BBG)

Woe will hit Saint Vitus on January 30th for a show with Abigail Williams, Immolith, and Vattnet Viskar. Tickets are on sale. The show, a make up date for the cancelled Dark Funeral tour, is one of TWO dates for the Philadelphia/NYC black metal crew, who will also bless Saint Vitus again with Immolith, as support for the latter's record release, along with Dominium, Mortum, and Salo on March 2nd (tickets are on sale).
Immolith are preparing to release their new LP StormDragon via Metalhit. Check out the new track "Hymns to the Countess" above/streaming below and look for the LP on (how appropo) Valentine's Day. Because nothing says I love you like bulldozing black metal.

Krum Bums @ Europa

A blackened crust band. An updated NWOBHM band. A poppy street-punk band. A blackened thrash band. A slow crusty doom band, and a traditional doom band with female vocals. Outside of a grind band and a hardcore band, I'd say that almost all heavy bases were covered on Friday night at Europa and Acheron. My night started with the Toxic Holocaust / Holy Grail / Krum Bums tour which hit Europa with support from Salo. Though the crowd was insanely into both Toxic Holocaust and Holy Grail (I preferred the former way more than the latter), Krum Bums were my favorite band at Europa that night. Their high-energy street punk awoke the quiet crowd, who were circle-pitting by their set's end. Toxic Holocaust had the audience eating out of their hand too, with the much larger circle-pit giving way to on-stage sing-alongs for favorites like "Wild Dogs" and "War is Hell".
side note: Toxic Holocaust's fans at Europa need to take a cue from the book of hardcore when it comes to stage-diving; thirty seconds of hesitation and searching for the right spot to dive isn't just embarassing, its just plain pointless.
After Europa, I headed over to the free after-party at Acheron featuring Windhand with local Belus. NYC's Belus is only on their second show, but the band shows maturity and songwriting way beyond their years. Make sure and catch them whenever you get the chance. Windhand was all the makings of an amazing traditional doom band: great vocals, memorable riffs, and bombastic sound. Can't wait to see them again.
All pictures and some recent video (including some from Europa) is below.
