Kevin Devine and the Goddamn Band play for-donation tonight (1/27) at Brooklyn Bowl. Those who give more than $5 will get the band's new split 7-inch with Manchester Orchestra, "I Could Be The Only One," which is streaming below. Also on the bill are the rarely see Scott Matthew, and Linfinity. Any money collected goes to Yele Haiti (which in turn buys Wyclef a new boat... I'm kidding!) (that's not even what the controversy is about).

Speaking of the desire to hear more of the beautiful voice of Scott Matthew, you can also catch him at Rockwood Music Hall four times in February. Those dates are listed below.

Linfinity, the six piece NYC band whose debut album Martian's Bloom will be released by American Myth Recordings on April 27th, also has other upcoming shows including a "Dylan solo set" at Union Hall on February 3rd (flyer below), and SXSW.

Kevin Devine & Co. have plenty of tour dates coming up, including a European tour in February and March, and sets at Coachella and Bamboozle Fest. Girl Talk and Weezer were already part of the lineup for that (happening May 1-2 at Meadowlands), and more were recently announced including MGMT, Matt & Kim, Minus the Bear, Drake, Wale and Ke$ha. That lineup, all tour dates, and Kevin's new single are below...

Bango, who has just completed nearly two years of cancer treatments, is incredibly grateful for the generosity of The Bowery and his friends. The Bowery Ballroom has been Frank's home as a bartender, bar manager, musician and fan for almost ten years.
The show started at 8 and ran until around 1 am, More pictures below....

Victoria Williams

"In 1993, Williams' life took a dramatic turn when she learned that she was suffering from multiple sclerosis. In 1993, an array of artists from different genres, including Pearl Jam, Lou Reed, Maria McKee, Soul Asylum, Lucinda Williams and others, joined together to record some of Williams' songs for a tribute/benefit project called Sweet Relief: A Benefit for Victoria Williams. This led to the creation of the Sweet Relief Fund, a charity that aids professional musicians (of any stature) in need of health care. That year, Williams also released a new album herself, entitled Loose. Pearl Jam had covered her song "Crazy Mary" for Sweet Relief, however, Williams performed her own version of the song, and made a video that brought her closer to public notice and gained her more of a following after it ran on MTV and VH1 in 1994, and is still played on both cable channels." [Wikipedia]
Tonight (August 26) Victoria helps another musician in need of money to pay hospital bills. Nada Surf (acoustic), Dean & Britta, Richard Buckner, Sam Champion, Scott Matthew, Tara Angell & David Poe and Simone White are also on the bill. Tickets are still on sale. The music starts at 8:00. Expect short sets leading up to Nada Surf who are headlining.

As usual, I fell behind and never got to fully write about how excited I am for the lineup upstairs at Pianos this afternoon (free - starts @ noon, @ Pianos, BrooklynVegan party). So real quick: You've got singer-songwriter/GNR cover band member Dave Godowsky opening up the show - his ony area appearance. Following him is Orba Squara, who among other things, is known for the song in the iPhone commercial. Then Marla Hansen of Sufjan/National/Kanye fame. Then Scott Matthew - known for having songs in soundtracks like Shortbus & Ghost in the Shell - he has a beautiful, beautiful voice. Then JULIA KENT - an amazing, solo cello player that is gaining popularity in Europe, and who also happens to be a member of Antony & The Johnsons, and who was in Rasputina, etc, etc... Then DOVEMAN. Then Tim Bracy of the Mendoza Line (who was supposed to play later). Then Craig Wedren - formerly of Shudder to Think. Then finally Erik Friedlander (who was supposed to play earlier) - "now one of the world's top cellists".

And on top of all that - great bands playing downstairs for free too - like Turbo Fruits, Foals, and The Maccabees! go now. bye.

Brooklyn's Scott Matthew is best known for writing several songs for John Cameron Mitchell's movie Shortbus. He plays Zebulon in Brooklyn on September 30th.

The UK's Scott Matthews plays Joe's Pub in NYC tonight (Sept 24). He has toured with the Foo Fighters, and in October he's going out on tour with Rufus Wainwright.

Both white, male, quiet, folkie, soothing, singer-songwriters. Which one do you think would win in arm wrestling?
