Kraliice's Mick Barr (solo) at Show No Mercy September edition
Mick Barr

After a triumphant debut, the mighty Krallice is back with Dimensional Bleedthrough, their NEW LP for Profound Lore! Due on Nov 10th, the band recently debuted the title track, but now dig on their latest skullcrusher "The Mountain" available above! Featuring the meaty guttural screams of bassist Nick McMaster on vox instead of the banshee wail of virtuoso Mick Barr, "The Mountain" is a seriously heavy track. Check out the cover art and track listing for the album below.

To celebrate the release, the band will team up with Malkuth, Orphan, and Liturgy at Union Pool for a show on November 13th! That date is just 12 days after the virtuosic Colin Marston is scheduled to play NYC with Dysrhythmia as the last date of their tour. Right before that Liturgy and Malkuth also share a bill at Market Hotel on Halloween.

Mick Barr recently played the September edition of Show No Mercy alongside the mighty Gnaw, Castevet, and Period. A few more pics from that show are below.

Castevet AND Malkuth are also on board to play Union Pool with the incredamazing Woe and the equally awesome Aluk Todolo on 10/4. $8 gets you in.

Besides Krallice, Profound Lore is also prepping the new LP from Portal, as well as the new Dan Lilker (Brutal Truth, Nuclear Assault, Anthrax, etc) project Crucifist, which is out NOW.

Liturgy in a moment of "om"
Liturgy

Liturgy's killer new album Renihilation has only been out around eight days now, and Hunter and the boys are already swimming in accolades. A short US tour kicks off next week, but until then look for them at one last hometown show to sate those who haven't seen them live and can't wait until The New Yorker Festival in October or Halloween with Malkuth and Mount Eerie.

Tonight (9/3) Liturgy will team up with Extra Life (mem STATS), Zs, and Larkin Grimm at Glasslands Gallery in Brooklyn.

Both Liturgy and STATS are alumni of BV-BBG events; Liturgy played Europa and STATS played the Show No Mercy/BV-BBG event at Public Assembly.

Speaking of bands that played BV-BBG at Europa, Howl are scheduled to play Europa on Sunday (9/6) with Toxic Holocaust. Tickets are still available.

The last time that Howl played NYC was at a FREE show at Fontana's, and ANOTHER one of those takes place TONIGHT (9/3)! Black Anvil will be celebrating the re-release of their awesome 2008 LP, Time Insults The Mind, on Relapse. The band will be joined by a very special guest and The Binary Code. Flyer is below, and again, it is FREE.

Also this sunday (9/6), the previously mentioned Show No Mercy at Public Assembly featuring Gnaw, Mick Barr, Castevet, and Period. Period shares a member with Extra Life.

All Liturgy tour dates as well as flyers for Show No Mercy and the Black Anvil Fontana's show are below.

Keelhaul
Keelhaul

"...I am a huge fan. Keelhaul is a very esoteric band, and an only sporadically active one at that. But still, more people should know them. This is because they are simply outstanding at playing rock & roll. The show of theirs I caught last December--a warm-up for the recording of their latest album, Keelhaul's Triumphant Return to Obscurity (two tracks stream here), which comes out August 18 on Hydra Head--was solid, but this was much better. They'd been on the road for a few days, and their performance had that bullish energy that can only come from consecutive gigs..."
[Hank Shteamer of STATS]
The BV-BBG Show No Mercy event was a success, thanks in part to killer performances by Keelhaul, Minsk, Unearthly Trance, Defeatist, and STATS, but mostly due the people who made it out on a Sunday night! Thanks to everyone who was involved, especially the guys in Keelhaul who were stuck in the car for eight hours just before arriving/setting Public Assembly ablaze.

The next TWO Show No Mercy events are already mapped out! September will showcase the first EVER show for GNAW featuring Alan Dubin of Khanate (we profiled them here), as well as a solo Mick Barr, and Castevet with one more TBA. As discussed, the October edition will take place at Market Hotel and will feature Mt Eerie, Liturgy, and the recently added Malkuth.

Unearthly Trance
Unearthly Trance

Call me greedy, but when I recently posted the Show No Mercy/BV-BBG lineup of Keelhaul, Minsk, and STATS, followed by that lonely "+1 TBA"... I got a little sad. Why just one? Luckily, Brandon Stosuy & I (we came up with the lineup together) were on the same page, so that +1 TBA is now +2, AND we are proud to announce the addition of Unearthly Trance and Defeatist to the August 2nd lineup at Public Assembly!

Defeatist, which contains members of the much lamented Anodyne (with Mike Hill of Tombs), recently dropped Sharp Blade Sinks Deep Into Dull Minds on Willowtip. The LP is actually a compilation of previously released EPs and splits that will have to sate us while we await the arrival of Sixth Extinction, featuring 19 new tracks recorded by Colin Marston. The band is scheduled to take on the destructive Texas duo of Mammoth Grinder (who we profiled here) and Hatred Surge (who I loved at SXSW) on July 17th at The Charleston.

Unearthly Trance recently played the BV-BBG bash at Europa, and are scheduled to take on Lit Lounge on Monday (7/13) with the mighty Harpoon, one of two dates for Harpoon (they headline The Charleston on 7/14). Full Unearthly Trance & Harpoon dates are below.

In possibly related news, Pollution, a band that may or may not contain members of Unearthly Trance and/or Villains, has been added to the kick-ass Harvey Milk/Torche shindig at Music Hall of Williamsburg on July 26. Tickets are still available. The band is also scheduled to play Don Pedro's on Saturday (7/11) with The Choke and Bukkake Boys. Pollution dropped the nasty.DNA cassette, which will reportedly surface on LP via Feast of Tentacles. Check out "Tiny Black Burns" from that release above. Feast of Tentacles is responsible for the recent 2LP of another fave, Cough.

More pics and some thoughts on Unearthly Trance, Cough, Howl, Javelina, Doomriders, Sourvein, and Clouds at the BV-BBG at Europa on 6/14, as well as tour dates for Pollution and Harpoon are below....

In my opinion, Keelhaul should be enjoying the same level of success as bands like The Fucking Champs and Pelican. - Mike Hill of Tombs

Keelhaul
Keelhaul

I agree with Mike. And if there is such thing as justice, maybe Keelhaul's ironically titled new album, Keelhaul's Triumphant Return to Obscurity will have just the opposite effect. Due via Hydra Head on August 18th, Triumphant Return (is what I am calling it) marks their fourth LP in their ten years as a band, and their first LP since 2003's Subject To Change Without Notice.

Keelhaul, who recently played a string of dates with Isis (that also included Tombs & Pelican at points), is currently streaming two new songs at their myspace, one of which, "Pass the Lampshade", is available for download above!

The band has scheduled a few shows for the coming weeks including a NYC show. More on that below, but first....

Long an admirer of both the Show No Mercy column, as well as the series of Brooklyn shows with the same name, it is my privilege and honor to announce the August edition at Public Assembly on the 2nd, co-curated by Brandon Stosuy (doy) and yours truly! Despite having one band still TBA, I'd say that we already have a pretty massive lineup. And it is: Keelhaul, Minsk, and STATS! More to come.

Minsk recently dropped With Echoes In The Movement Of Stone, easily my favorite album of theirs to date, and the picture perfect definition of the word epic. Check out "Three Moons" from Echoes above. Minsk is currently on the road with the great Wolves In The Throne Room, but recently announced a European tour with A Storm of Light. All dates below.

STATS recently dropped their new EP, Marooned for gratis (if you want) download. Download the EP above and don't forget to donate to the band if you can. STATS currently has one show on their calendar besides Show No Mercy. That is Death By Audio on July 19th with Talibam! and Altamira.

Show No Mercy JULY is this Sunday (7/5) at Public Assembly, and features performances by AxCx (recently played Europa), Fuck The Facts (who released Disgorge Mexico on limited vinyl), Locrian (playing twice this weekend) , Copremesis (who are giving away almost their entire catalog), and Gwynnbleidd. Want to go for free? I have two pairs of tickets to give away at BVCONTESTS@HOTMAIL.COM with a subject line of "AC". Please include your first and last name. Winners will be notified the afternoon of July 3rd.

Minsk and Keelhaul tour dates, as well as the album art for Keelhaul's Triumphant Return to Obscurity, are below...

In the very near future (Sunday, June 7), Black Anvil will join Salome, Woe, and Snake Sustaine at Show No Mercy at Public Assembly. The band is also playing July 11th at Rockstar Bar.

Howl recently signed with Relapse as well, and will play the BV-BBG Northside Showcase on June 14th. Tickets are still available, or you can get in with your Northside badge.

Check out a live Black Anvil video (again) below...

June's Show No Mercy event is this Sunday (6/7), and we already have another event to look forward to after that! Eclectic is the name of the game as Anal Cunt (who recently played Europa) will team up with grinders Fuck The Facts, Locrian, Gwynbleidd, and Copremesis for a July 5th show at Public Assembly. Until then, Salome awaits on June 7th with Black Anvil, Woe, and Snake Sustaine (mems-A Life Once Lost).

Want to go Sunday? I have two pairs of tickets to give away. Email us at BVCONTESTS@HOTMAIL.COM with a subject line of "SALOME", and include your first and last name. Two winners will be selected at random and notified the afternoon of June 5th.

Fuck The Facts recently announced the vinyl release of Disgorge Mexico via Stillborn Records on June 9th. The limited edition pressing will have 500 total copies, with 400 on white and 100 on black vinyl. Preorder that here.

Locrian has been busy since the beginning of 2009, dropping Drenched Lands earlier this year on At War With False Noise, and more recently, the Land of Decay VHS + 3" CD available here. 2009 will also see the releases of the Drenched Lands LP (via BloodLust) and a split 7" w/ Harpoon on Hewhocorrupts Inc. Show No Mercy is not their only upcoming NYC-area show either. They've added another on July 3rd at Lucky Cheng's. All dates below.

Copremesis, who describe themselves as "NS Death/Grind performed by minorities to hail the ARYAN RACE!!!", recently released the lilting ode to transexual perversion Muay Thai Ladyboys and are now offering all of their other releases for gratis download.

Rosetta recently played a Show No Mercy show, and will be in NYC once again on June 5th at Death By Audio.

A Life Once Lost

The outer reaches of hardcore had it's time out of the darkness on May 3rd, as A Life Once Lost teamed up with Buried Inside, Rosetta, and Wetnurse for Show No Mercy at Public Assembly. The show was one show of a previously announced tour for ALOLwho currently has dates lined up through middle May with Thy Will Be Done.

If you missed Rosetta, make sure and catch the "astronaut-metallers" next month at Death By Audio on June 5th.

The next Show No Mercy is lined up for June 7th with Salome, Woe, Black Anvil and Snake Sustaine (featuring members of ALOL).

Salome @ Public Assembly (last time) (more by Justina Villaneuva)
Salome

Exactly two months after wowing the crowd at Scion Rock Fest, Salome have scheduled a new show in NYC. The June 7th date is at Public Assembly in Brooklyn, and it's part of the ongoing Show No Mercy series... which the band also played in February. Haven't seen Salome before? You. Must. Go.

Salome's June appearance at Show No Mercy is preceded by the May edition, which takes place this Sunday, May 3rd, at the same venue. A Life Once Lost, Buried Inside, Rosetta, and Wetnurse are on that bill. Want to go? We have two free pairs of tickets to give away. More information is below.

Kat of Salome's other band, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, recently dropped their latest album Agorapocalypse on Relapse. We interviewed Kat in February.

Wetnurse recently added dates with Lord Mantis, and played Union Pool with The Austerity Program and Tournament.

Rosetta has one additional NYC date on the calendar, June 5th at Death By Audio, before they ship out to Europe with new Translation Loss signees City of Ships.

A Life Once Lost recently returned form a tour of Alaska(!), and after a few dates with Buried Inside, they'll hit the road with Thy Will Be Done. All dates below...

Black Anvil, in mid thrash.
Black Anvil

The bunny was shown no mercy on Easter Sunday, as Genghis Tron, Tombs, Wetnurse, and Black Anvil took care of business at Public Assembly (4/12). The Brooklyn venue was packed for the show that "might be" the last NYC show for da 'Tron in 2009 - the band is setting aside some time post-Coachella to work on new material.

Tombs, who are back from a long trek with Pelican and Wolves in The Throne Room, have only a couple shows lined up until the band hits the road with Isis (and Pelican on some dates). Tickets for Isis/Pelican/Tombs on June 2nd at Irving Plaza are on sale.

Wetnurse have a couple area dates in the next couple weeks: April 16th in Bloomfield, NJ with Landmine Marathon (who fuckign DESTROYED last night, more on that later) and April 26th at Union Pool with The Austerity Program & Tournament. After that, the band will play a second Show No Mercy event at Public Assembly on May 3rd with A Life Once Lost, Buried Inside, and Rosetta. A month and a half after that, the band hits the road with Lord Mantis (who we profiled here) for a US tour.

By my strictly unscientific polling, Black Anvil might have recieved the most "oohs and ahhs" of the night. If you missed them, then you have two more chances to catch the band in NYC in the coming months: May 20th at Chief Bodega with Vermefug, Entrails Massacre, and PLF and July 11th at Rock Star Bar with Dimentianon. The band has one additional show lined up for Richmond, on May 9th, where they will team up with Occultist and Bastard Sapling.

Genghis Tron Live at Europa, 3/27/09 (more by Justina Villanueva)
GT

Pelican and Tombs have been added to select dates of the previously mentioned Isis tour including the currently on sale show at Irving Plaza on June 2nd. Updated tour dates are below.

Tombs also has two other dates on their calendar: April 19th with the mighty Bison BC in Danbury CT and April 12th (Easter) with Wetnurse, Black Anvil and Genghis Tron for Show No Mercy at Public Assembly. Want to go to the Brooklyn one? I have 2 pairs of tickets up for grabs. Details on how to win below.

After defiling Easter Sunday, Genghis Tron will head to Coachella. From their they head home to dedicate the rest of the year to writing and recording the follow-up to Board Up The House. Public Assembly may be their last show for a long time, so if you didn't catch them (and possibly almost get killed) when they played Europa with Converge and Coliseum, don't miss this.

Isis have a new album on the way, Wavering Radiant. Look for it on May 15th.

Pelican recently played SXSW and recorded their debut EP for Southern Lord.

Mike Hill (of Tombs) and Isis have a history together; Hill produced songs on Isis's The Red Sea EP. Before the release of Tombs' mammoth Winter Hours, we interviewed Mike Hill. Tombs recently played SXSW, check out a video of that below.

Black Anvil, who recently dropped Time Insults The Mind on LP, have a few other dates lined up including April 10th in Bethpage, NY.

Bison BC will also be in the hood soon... taking on Children at Death By Audio on April 18th.

More videos and all tour dates below....

Buried Inside

After all of the doom & gloom and icy blackness, it looks like Show No Mercy, the recurring metal party at Public Assembly in Brooklyn, is going a little (experimental) hardcore. Buried Inside and Rosetta have been added to the May 3rd Edition.

Show No Mercy also has upcoming shows with Genghis Tron, Tombs, Wetnurse, Villains, Castevet, Nocnitsa, and Dimentianon.

Buried Inside released their latest album yesterday (March 3rd), the highly recommended Spoils of Failure on Relapse. Stream some tracks at their myspace and download the track "V" above.

Rosetta is currently booking a European tour but have a few (mostly Philly area) dates on the calendar. All tour dates below...

Ocean
Ocean

February 15th was a challenge... logistically and emotionally: Logistically because I had planned to catch as much of both Show No Mercy's Ocean/Salome/Riff Cannon/Batillus event AND Zoroaster / Amenra / A Storm Of Light show as possible. Emotionally because obviously, there were some casualties... namely Ocean who I only caught 15 minutes of, and Batillus and Riff Cannon who I completely missed. Frown. The single positive out of missing this trio of bands is that Batillus are good 'ol local boys, so the chances to catch them again in NYC are much greater in the near future. If you have a chance to catch them (and I have before) you should.

Now on to more positives.... I was able to catch most of the Europa show (more on that later) and almost all Salome, who were just devastating! The thundering duo of R. Moore (guitars) and Deal (drums) punctuated an already frightening performance by lead howler Kat. Hell hath no fury like Kat's shredded voicebox.... how a sound that unholy comes out of a person that small, I will never know. Make sure to look for them when they make it up to NYC next, and if you are going to be in ATL for the OMG Fest (read: Scion Rock Fest), make sure and catch them.... they'll be on early.

Salome

Zoroaster, A Storm of Light and Amenra's show at Europa isn't the only massive heavy bill going on in Brooklyn on Sunday (2/15). That second set of rumbling that you hear could be seismic aftershocks, but most likely it's Show No Mercy's Ocean, Salome, Riff Cannon & Batillus riff-stravaganza at Public Assembly. Hmmm. Decisions. Tix are available at the door, or for one lucky individual, for FREE. Email us at BVCONTESTS@HOTMAIL.COM with a subject line of "SALOME" for your chance to win a pair. The winner will be selected at random and contacted.

Salome have dropped off a NEW MP3 for us to salivate over as well.... Check out "The Vivification of Ker" downloadable above! For those counting at home, that is 3/4 of their ENTIRE self-titled LP, so get out there and pick up the record (it's worth it) and look for that new Agorophobic Nosebleed (Kat Salome's other band), when it drops on April 14th via Relapse! Full Salome dates are below.

Zoroaster, Mastodon, A Storm of Light, Salome, Nachtmystium, and a shit-ton of ridicul-awesome bands will converge (pun intended) in Atlanta on Feb 28th for Scion Rock Fest.

Absu
ABSU

With Absu's new self-titled LP due only a few weeks away (Feb 24th), the band have announced their participation in CIII along with French black metallers Glorior Belli, Austin's Averse Sefira, and Sothis, including a date at BB Kings on June 21st! Tickets are currently on presale here and go on sale to the general public on March 5th. Glorior Belli recently dropped a preview of their upcoming album.

Funeral Mist, the black metal crew featuring Mortuus of Marduk, have announced their NEW album, Maranatha due on Norma Evangelium Diaboli (link NSFW) on Feb 23rd! Funeral Mist's last album, Salvation, was released in 2006. In related/as exciting news, Marduk have announced more dates for their previously reported US trek with Mayhem, Cattle Decapitation, Cephalic Carnage, and Withered including Irving Plaza on May 21! No ticket details as of yet, but we'll let you know when they surface. Full tour schedule below.

Javelina have announced the more details about their previously announced Sanford Parker-produced LP coming soon on Translation Loss. Their sophomore effort will include nine original tunes, as well as a Buzzov*en cover ("Whisky Fit") that will be featured on a upcoming tribute record (which will also feature contributions from Sourvein, Deadbird, Fistula, Kylesa, Zoroaster and many more). Look for the new record in late summer or early fall with song titles like "You're Going to Hate This", "Towers of Silence", "The Black Blizzard" and "Stepchild".

Grace of Landmine Marathon
LM

Landmine Marathon have scheduled an East Coast tour including TWO nights in NYC! On April 13th, Grace and the boys will descend upon Lit Lounge (Precious Metal) backed by Wizardry and Seizure Crypt. Three days later (4/16), the band have set aside the day to play an additional show in Brooklyn... details are forthcoming. Landmine Marathon are also on board to play both the New England Hardcore & Metal Fest, as well as the Los Angeles Murderfest. Full tour schedule below. Speaking of Wizardry, the band will record their entire live show at Union Pool on Feb 25th for later release.

Pelican have signed with Southern Lord! The band is currently recording material at Red Room studios in Seattle for what will be their debut EP for the label. Look for the new material to be "heavier, darker and very riff-oriented," according to guitarist Trevor De Brauw. Pelican also announced a slew of tour dates with Tombs (none in NYC), including a stint with Wolves In The Throne Room that will bring the trio to SXSW as part of the Southern Lord showcase. WITTR have a new EP AND LP on the way, and recently dropped a live LP, Live at Roadburn.

DeathSpell OmegaDeathspell Omega's Veritas Diaboli Manet in Aeternum - Chaining the Katechon EP, culled from their split with S.V.E.S.T. is out NOW at Southern Lord, and if you were a fan of their last LP, I highly reccommend it. Also of note at Southern Lord: Wolves in The Throne Room's previously mentioned Malevolent Grain EP, the new and mega-rare Boris/Michio Kurihara Cloud Chamber LP (1500 total copies) as well as the Boris Vs. Choukoku - More Echoes, Touching Air Landscape reissue. WITTR's new album Black Cascade is due on Mar 31st.

Speaking of WITTR, Scion Rock Fest is a little more than two weeks away, and we have 10 PAIRS of tickets and 10 Josh Graham designed posters for giveaway. In the meantime, dig on the recently posted set times below (thx anon)!

As we originally reported in September, sunn o))) has a new album on the way that we THOUGHT was called Dimensions. Turns out, according to an interview with The Quietus, the new album is due in May, will be entitled Monoliths & Dimensions, and will feature Jessika Kenney, Eyvind Kang, as well as frequent contributors Oren Ambarchi, Attila Csihar (Mayhem) and Dylan Carlson (Earth). Check out the tracklisting below. Speaking of Stephen O'Malley, the previously discussed Aethenor record, Faking Gold & Murder is out NOW.

Woe

The Ocean/Salome/Riff Cannon/Batillus edition of Brandon Stosuy (Pitchfork)'s Show No Mercy showcase at at Public Assembly isnt even here yet (that's on 2/15. Check out the Seldon Hunt flyer below), but we have already have word on some of the bands in the months to come, including Genghis Tron, Krieg, Tombs, Wetnurse, Villains, and Crucifier!

First up, March 1st, a scant two weeks after the Ocean/Salome rumble off, Show No Mercy turns the speed waaaaay up with the pairing of the black metal horde Krieg and Philly's Woe (others TBA). Krieg is the brainchild of Imperial, former member of Nachtmystium and Twilight, the defunct black metal super group that at one time featured Blake Judd (Nachtmystium), Malefic (Xasthur), Wrest (Leviathan, Lurker of Chalice), Hildolf (Draguar) and even, for a short time, Aaron Turner (Isis). Woe released the awesome A Spell For The Death Of Man, which is available for pay-what-you-want digital download.

Three weeks later (3/22) as part of a record release party for Paragon Records, Crucifier, will team up with Villains, Castevet, Nocnitsa, and Dimentianon. Crucifier are welcoming their new 10", Trampled Under Cloven Hooves and have posted a pair of MP3s for download... check out "The Funeral" and "When The Bough Breaks". Castevet are welcoming the Salt/Stones 7", which is available for pre-order here. Check out "Stones" from that 7" available for download above. The new Villains album, Lifecode of Decadence, is due "soon" on Nuclear War Now.

And finally, on April 12th, Genghis Tron will headline an eclectic night with Tombs and Wetnurse. Genghis Tron are also playing a show scheduled a few weeks before at Europa, with Converge/Coliseum/the entire Deathwish roster (not really) (tickets). Genghis Tron are also playing Coachella. Tombs will release their new album Winter Hours on Feb 17th. Wetnurse recently played The Charleston with Graf Orlock and Lewd Acts.

Woe and Tombs will team up on Feb 21st to play ABC No Rio with Black Anvil and Bastard Sapling. Later that same night, Tombs plays Death By Audio with Defeatist, Engineer & The Wayward. We interviewed Mike Hill of Tombs here.

Villians & Castevet recently played Public Assembly with the mighty Malkuth and Ipsissimus.

Cannabis Corpse recently played Show No Mercy with Skeletonwitch. Vice Magazine dressed up as the Cannabis Corpse Weed Monster and lived to tell about it. Here's a great quote about the experience:

Kylesa

As we sit idly with Static Tensions awaiting the release of the new Kylesa LP, the band have dropped off a few new tour dates and are streaming the new track "Said & Done" at their myspace.

Skeletonwitch (who recently played Public Assembly as part of Show No Mercy) and Black Tusk will team up with Kylesa for a few dates sandwiched between Kylesa's appearance at the Scion Rock Fest and their upcoming tour with The Haunted, Nachtmystium, and Intronaut (that hits BB Kings on 4/19 and tickets are still on sale).

The new dates include a stop at SXSW in Austin, with Skeletonwitch & Black Tusk, but also with Rwake, Warship, and Dixie Witch as part of the Tone Deaf Touring Showcase on March 20th @ Red 7.

If for some god-forsaken reason you have forgotten about the Kylesa show TONIGHT (1/28) at The Charleston with Tombs, Tournament, Black Anvil, and The Brass, let this serve as a reminder. Lots of heavy riffing and bowel-shaking pleasure lies ahead.... but get there early... doors at 8PM. New (less secretive) flyer below.

Kylesa will also be at the equally earth-moving show tommorrow (1/29) at the Bowery Ballroom with crust legends Amebix, Thought Crime, & Atakke.... but unfortunately, that show is now sold-out.

Skeletonwitch played the last edition of Show No Mercy. The Feb 15th edition at Public Assembly will feature Ocean, Salome, Riff Cannon & Batillus.

All dates below...

Ocean
Ocean

My favorite of the two Oceans, the one missing a definite article in front of their name (Ocean of Maine), will be the next heavy band to headline Show No Mercy at Public Assembly (Feb 15th). As part of some sort of bizarre doom-off, Ocean will try to out rumble and underpace the mighty Salome, Riff Cannon, and Batillus who are also on board for the (anti-) festivities. Both Ocean (profiled here) and Salome (who we profiled in August) released full-length LPs last year... Pantheon of The Lesser and S/T respectively. Riff Cannon will drop their debut LP in 2009 and Batillus recently made their new self-titled EP available for free download here.

Speaking of Salome, lead vocalist Kat will make her first Agoraphobic Nosebleedappearance on Agorapocalypse, the latest LP from Scott Hull's pummeling grindcore project. Due April 14th, Agorapocalypse won't be the lone AnB in 2009; the band plans a series of splits for this year with a wide array of bands including Despise You, ANS, Agents of Satan and Thrones!

Mayhem, Marduk, Cattle Decapitation, and Cephalic Carnage have added a date together in Seattle Washington @ Studio Seven on June 5th. Pleasegodletitbeafulltour... Pleasegodletitbeafulltour... Cattle Decapitation's The Harvest Floor dropped on Jan 20th.

Brutal Truth recently announced their involvement in the Auditory Assault Festival (with Gadget, Kill The Client, Jig-ai and others), and now comes word that the band will have released their new record before then! Enter Evolution Through Revolution, recorded at Watchman Studios by Doug White (Psyopus) and due on April 14th via Relapse. Stokeage. Brutal Truth drummer Richard Hoak will do double duty at the Auditory Assault festival, also playing with his Total Fucking Destruction project.

Isis announced their new album, Wavering Radiant, due on May 5th via Ipecac Records! Produced by Joe Baressi (Tool, Queens of The Stone Age), look for the wax to hit the streets on Apr. 21. Tool's Adam Jones contributed guitar tracks to a pair of songs on Wavering Radiant.

Sweet do, Jared Big Business!
Big Business

Big Business have announced their new album, Mind The Drift due in April via Hydra Head Records. Produced by Phil Ek (The Shins, Earth, Fleet Foxes, Built To Spill), the record is the first to feature new guitarist Toshi Kasai. Stream the new track "Gold and Final" at their myspace.

Ahhh... NOW I know why 1349 are heading out on tour.... Revelations Of The Black Flame is the name of the recently announced new album by the black metallers! Recorded at StudioStudio Nyhagen in Bøverbru, Norway, 1349 have enlisted Tom Gabriel Fischer to help man the boards! Look for it sometime this spring. Meanwhile, Tom Gabriel Fischer's new venture post-Celtic Frost, Triptykon, is currently in the demo phase. 1349 will be at BB Kings on March 2nd, tickets are available here.

The sickos in Sourvein have scheduled a few new dates, including an NYC date that looks to be part of an upcoming US tour. No details just yet, but set aside April 19th until then. Tour dates below.

The previously announced Converge show at Europa on March 27th (tickets here) just got a little bit nuttier with the addition of Genghis Tron, Ceremony, Rise and Fall, and Pulling Teeth.

Lair Of The Minotaur's new DVD, WAR METAL BATTLE MASTER is out NOW at Southern Lord. Meanwhile, bassist Nate Olp (Demiricous) has been sent in to replace the departed DJ Barraca for live gigs. DJ recently left LOTM to joined Harpoon, who's new record, Double Gnarly / Triple Suicide is due on Feb 10th via Interloper Records.

Skeletonwitch
Skeletonwitch

The blackened-thrashtastic Skeletonwitch will team up with weed-death metallers Cannabis Corpse for a handful of dates in the new year, including one on Jan 11th with Atakke as part of the monthly Show No Mercy series at Public Assembly (Nachmystium played last month's).

Cannabis Corpse (featuring members of Municipal Waste) are currently working hard at a follow-up EP to this year's Tube of The Resinated (get it?). Look for that on the mighty Tank Crimes in the coming year.

All tour dates, and the Brooklyn show flyer, are below....

Cattle Decapitation

Cattle Decapitation have announced dates in support of their new record, The Harvest Floor due on 1/20/09. Supported by Psyopus, Book Of Black Earth, and Gigan, full tour dates are below, but no NYC just yet.

Adding insult on top of insult to injury, Maryland Death Fest have added powerviolence bad-asses Despise You (with Phil Vera of Crom), as well as grinders Pigsty. This is on top of Mayhem, Bolt Thrower, Enslaved and soooo many others... Unfortunately, Repulsion have cancelled their appearance.

Vitamin XNeed a fix of fun, skull-splitting hardcore? Vitamin X have dropped their new record, Full Scale Assault on Tankcrimes and it is one awe-inspiring slab of lightning riffery and old-school hardcore punk produced by none other than Steve Albini at Electrical Audio Studios. Sporting ultra-suh-weeeet artwork by John Baizley of Baroness, the band has been kind enough to drop off a pair of MP3s from the record... check out "Deal With it" featuring John Brannon of Negative Approach and "You Suck" downloadable above and pick up the album here.

How many times has a headliner you dug dropped off a bill, and you were actually pleased with the results? In a bit of shuffling, Doomriders have dropped off their bill with Tombs at Union Pool on 12/20 (frown), BUT Bloodhorse (who are working on a new record), Keelhaul(!), and Acid Tiger (Ben from Cave-in, Converge) have been added! So Keelhaul in NYC, huh? Exciting, and it sounds like they have more than just the show on their agenda...

We are going to Brooklyn to record another cd with Andrew Schneider in December. Yee haw.-[Keelhaul myspace]
NOICE! Meanwhile, look for Tombs to play a show at Death By Audio on Dec 6th, play a few shows opening for Don Caballero at both Maxwell's and Europa, and embark on a short tour in the new year with Dysrhythmia. Full Keelhaul and Tombs dates are below.

Doomers My Dying Bride have revealed details of their new album, For Lies I Sire due in 2009 via Peaceville! Spanning nine tracks and recorded with producer Mags, vocalist Aaron Stainhorpe recently discussed the new record with Beyond The Dark Horizon.

Acrid PlainsSaros, the Bay Area blackened prog metal band contructed from members of the almighty Weakling and Amber Asylum, will drop their new album Acrid Plains on Profound Lore 2/17/09. Album art is below and check out the new MP3, "Reversion" available for download above.

Mammoth Grinder are scheduled to rage through the tri-state in the new year. The trio will be in town on Jan 3rd to double up.. playing shows at ABC No Rio (matinee) AND The Charleston (night) in support of their long-player Rage & Ruin and No Results 7" due together on Assassinated Records. Alternating between thundering doom and crusty hardcore, check out heavily doom-oriented "God is Stuck in a Black Hole " from Rage & Ruin, downloadable above.

Gracial death-doomers Hooded Menace are responsible for the massive Fulfill The Curse on Razorback Records. It's out NOW and it's absolutely frightening.. highly reccomended for fans of Coffins and death-doom in particular. Check out the track "Grasp Of The Beastwoman" from Fulfill The Curse and pray for your own safety that these Finns never make it to the US... it'll be a massacre.

More news on Intronaut, Pelican, The Sword, Krallice, Saint Vitus, Total Fucking Destruction and more as The Week In Metal continues...
