Mikal Cronin at NXNE 2013 (more by David Andrako)
Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...
Mikal Cronin, The Entrance Band, Nude Beach @ Webster Hall
Having released one of the year's most acclaimed guitar pop albums (MCII), Mikal Cronin returns to NYC for his biggest show yet. The show's also got The Entrance Band, Nude Beach and "Special Guests," and economically priced $15 tickets are still available. This'll be a good show.
Red Fang, Cancer Bats, The Shrine, Indian Handcrafts @ Bowery Ballroom
This four-band metal tour is more of a heavy riff-rock thing than the kind of music that is often referred to as "metal" these days, but if you're the kind of person that rocks out to this stuff, this show is unmissable.
Chuck Inglish, Kings Dead, Tayyib Ali @ SOB's
The Cool Kids aren't up to much at the moment, but member Chuck Inglish has been having a very busy year, popping up as a guest on multiple tracks and putting out a few of his own releases too, one of the more notable ones being his EP with Ab-Soul and Mac Miller. He's been out on the road with Kings Dead and Tayyib Ali and tonight they hit NYC.
Reggie Watts @ Irving Plaza
Comedian, musician, loop pedal guru, Comedy Bang! Bang! bandleader -- Reggie Watts is one of a kind. Tonight's show is sold out.
Leif Vollebekk @ Rockwood Music Hall
This underrated Canadian singer-songwriter released his most recent album, North Americana, at the start of this year in Canada (it comes out in the US on 1/28/14) and its folky charms will work especially well at an intimate venue like Rockwood.
The Hairs, The Teen Age, Magneta Lane, Weekender, Bluffing @ Pianos
Toronto trio Magneta Lane headline this all-around solid bill that also includes indiepop bands The Teen Age and The Hairs.
Bridget Everett @ Joe's Pub
While she's been previewing her new show "Rock Bottom," lately, Bridgett Everett's performance tonight is a "regular" show with her band The Tender Moments (which features Adam "Ad-Rock" Horowitz on bass).
Howth, Caged Animals, Jeffrey Lewis and the Rain @ Union Pool
Tonight is a belated record release show for superior Brooklyn indie pop band Caged Animals' new album, In the Land of Giants, which came out back in September. Jeffrey Lewis is not to be missed either.
Sebastian Blanck @ The Standard, East Village
Sebastian Blanck was once a member of Black Dice, but now he makes equally experimental music on his own, and you can catch him playing that music tonight.
ShowYouSuck, Caleb James, Freeze-Tag @ Baby's All Right
ShowYouSuck is one of the more notable up-and-comers in Chicago's thriving rap scene at the moment. He hasn't hit Chance the Rapper or Chief Keef status yet, but catch him while he's still small at Baby's All RIght tonight.
For all of tonight's shows, and tomorrow's, check out our full NYC show calendar.

As mentioned, Chicago rapper ShowYouSuck is making his way over to NYC this weekend and will play Knitting Factory TONIGHT (5/3) with killer Bronx crew Bitches Is Crazy, in addition to Goldie Glo, D Stunna, and Hipster Rogers. Tickets for tonight's show are still available.
After that show, he'll stick around to play in Brooklyn on Saturday (5/4) at The Paper Box. That show is with Ninjasonik, Unstoppable Death Machines, Filthy Savage, and DJ Fake Money. Tickets for that show are on sale now. ShowYouSuck's only other announced date that we're currently aware of is a hometown show later this month. You can stream his recent single, "Rap Game Karate," below.
Meanwhile, Brooklyn's Ninjasonik have other hometown shows this month, including a Cinco De Mayo party at The Flat (308 Hooper St in Brooklyn) and a video premiere party at The Studio at Webster Hall on May 13 with The Skins and special guests. Tickets for that show are on sale. Flyer for the Cinco De Mayo party below.
Speaking of Chicago rappers, the Windy City's hip hop scene has been having a pretty good week with the release of two anticipated mixtapes, Chance the Rapper's Acid Rap and Rockie Fresh's The Birthday Tape. Both free (click the links to download). You can catch Rockie Fresh in the NYC-area this August on his tour with A$AP Rocky, Joey Bada$$, and others, and for the Mad Decent Block Party in Williamsburg Park (8/10) with Major Lazer, Flosstradamus, and others (tickets).

Shabazz Palaces' tour with THEESatisfaction hits NYC tonight (4/26) for a sold out show at Bowery Ballroom.
Chicago rapper ShowYouSuck is coming to NYC for a show on May 3 at Knitting Factory. That bill also includes Bronx crew B.I.C. (Bitches Is Crazy), Goldie Glo, D Stunna, and Hipster Rogers. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
Bitches Is Crazy just released a free album for 4/20 (but it actually came out on 4/16), Influence. It fits right in with the recent influx of NYC weed rap we've been getting from Flatbush Zombies, The Underachievers and A$AP Mob. Pretty cool stuff. Download it at bandcamp or stream it, along with the videos for "DOPM" and "Yo Soy Widdit," below.
As just mentioned, collaborators Flatbush Zombies and The Underachievers, who are currently on tour with Joey Bada$$, are playing a free show in Red Hook Park on June 4 as part of this year's Summerstage season.
Miami rapper Gunplay is set to release a new mixtape, Bogota this year (not to be confused with last year's Bogota Rich: The Prequel mixtape), and is also talking about a new album, Medellin. He recently revealed the video for "Pyrex," which will presumably appear on one of these releases. You can watch that below. Gunplay will come to NYC for a show at SOB's on June 10. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
Hip hop collective Phony PPL are doing a residency at Brooklyn Bowl which includes shows on May 1, June 5, July 3, and July 31. Each show has different special guests. For the May 1 show, it will be Allan Kingdom and Roofeeo. Guests for the other three shows TBA. Tickets for all four nights are on sale now.
Casey Veggies at Bamboozle 2012 (more by Leia Jospe)
You can download Casey's recent mixtape Life Changes, which features appearances by BJ the Chicago Kid, Dom Kennedy and others, and production by The Futuristiks, Harry Fraud, and others, over at DatPiff.
The Brooklyn Bowl show is two days before Travi$ Scott and the rest of the XXL Freshmen class (Schoolboy Q, Joey Bada$$, Ab-Soul, Action Bronson, Angel Haze, and others) play the XXL Freshmen show at Best Buy Theater (5/21). Tickets for that show are still available.
Dizzy Wright, Nitty Scott, and others are playing The Studio at Webster Hall on May 22. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
Not exactly hip hop, but Kelly Rowland and The-Dream are playing Best Buy Theater on May 30. Tickets for that show go on sale today (4/26) at noon.

Frankie Rose & band @ Hotel Vegan (by Amanda Hatfield)
"...it offered the perfect setting for seeing multiple bands within an intimate setting in a short amount of time. Sure it was a long walk down Sixth Street to get there, and it may not have been the most well kempt venue (I'll be honest, it was a shit-hole), but the three stage set-up provided for prime SXSW day party viewing. I had the pleasure of seeing Chelsea Wolfe, Japandroids, Frankie Rose, Deaf Heaven, and Japandroids all within the span of a couple hours. All of these bands were on my list of bands I wanted to see, and thanks to this venue, I was able to cross more bands off my list than past years"One of the stages on Wednesday was dedicated to Chicago bands courtesy of BV Chicago, and one was put together by BBG. It was on the latter that we hosted an afternoon set by Deafheaven who created NY Mag's Nitsuh Abebe's favorite moment of SXSW 2012.
