Testament on the Motorhead Motorboat in October (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
A couple of stacked east-coast hardcore/metal festivals have recently announced their lineups. First up, Damaged City Fest will take place in Washington D.C. from April 10-12. It will feature UK-based The Mob, Canada's Career Suicide, DC's Coke Bust, PA's Hounds of Hate, NJ's Razorheads, and NY-based Warthog and Ajax, among many others. Those last few bands, along with DC's Red Death, who will also be making an appearance, were featured in our hardcore roundup last week. Ticket info and more bands TBA. Full initial lineup below.
The following weekend, Worcester, MA will play host to the more metal-centric New England Hardcore and Metal Festival on April 17-19. The lineup is pretty huge, with classic thrash like Testament, Exodus and Nuclear Assault joining more current popular bands like Between the Buried and Me and more exciting underground acts like Nails, Wisdom in Chains and Homewrecker. Tickets are available now in either three-day packages or for individual days.

In the wake of the sell-out of A389 2013 in Baltimore, the label has expanded the two-day fest into a full extended weekend! A389 Anniversary will kickoff with a pre-fest show at Ottobar on 1/17/13 featuring Integrity, Withdrawal, Vilipend and Dead Gods , then come to a close with a Sunday matinee on 1/20/13 at Charm City Art Space with Left for Dead, Iron Reagan, God's America and Eddie Brock.
In addition to the previously discussed Friday/Saturday shows at Ottobar, Saturday (1/19) will now feature a matinee at Sidebar with Despise You, Gehenna, Dead in The Dirt, Ancient Shores and WarXGames AND an afterparty with Nothing (who recently toured). None of the newly announced shows will have advanced ticketing; you can only buy them at the door. Full show details are below.
Catharsis has only one show during A389 festival, so what does that mean? Could a tour be in the works?
In other A389 news, the label will release Devoid of Everything, which collects Left for Dead's entire 1996-97 studio output remixed from the original 1/4" multi-track reels. Check out the art above and you can stream a track below. Left for Dead members went on to play in bands like Cursed, Haymaker, Pick Your Side, Burning Love, and many many more. This rare one-time reunion (I was assured!) is not to be missed. Check out some thoughts on the reunion via Chris Colohan here.
If you're wondering who Iron Reagan is, the band is prepping to release their 20-track debut Worse Than Dead via A389 in 2013. The band features half of Municipal Waste and members of Darkest Hour and you can stream their demo below alongside details of the A389 festivities.
High on Fire during SXSW (more by Greg Cristman)
"High on Fire would like to thank everyone involved with the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival for the opportunity to be a part of this year's tour," said the band in a statement. "We regretfully will have to bow out as our friend and bandmate begins his recovery, but very much appreciate having been asked to be a part of this summer's festival run."And with that statement, High on Fire have exited their previously discussed appearance on said tour. Best of luck to Matt Pike, who we last (for a while?) saw at Scion Rock Fest as part of Sleep. No word as to what that means for the NYC shows scheduled on that tour.
Evoken have signed to Profound Lore and are readying their new LP Atra Mors for release. The NJ funeral doom crew will release the long-player on July 31st and the record features eight new tracks from the crew including "An Extrinsic Divide", which is available for streaming below.
On a completely different note, Sick Fix will release Vexed via A389 Records, another slab of hardcore fury from the band featuring a member of Magrudergrind. Stream the new track "Boudica" below.
All streams, suggested shows and more are below.
Coke Bust @ Acheron
Coke Bust and Sick Fix played TWO NYC shows on Saturday (11/19, at ABC No Rio and later at Acheron) as part of a string of East Coast dates for the pair. Miscegenator and DBCR joined the pair at ABC No Rio, while Acheron featured appearances from Masakari (who drove in from Cleveland specifically for the show) and Grudges (who played Saint Vitus the night before with Black Anvil/Bloodiest).
All four bands at Acheron ripped it; Grudges played a hardcore influenced set with death growl vocals that got the room primed for excellent sets by DC fastcore greats Sick Fix and the chaos that ensued during sets by d-beat-ers Masakari and also DC fastcore killers Coke Bust. Do your best to see any/all bands that played Acheron as soon as you can. More pictures from that show below...
Defeatist at Shea Stadium (more by BBG)
Defeatist have announced that "this turd has been circling the bowl long enough, so we have decided to flush it for good." The trio have a pair of NYC dates left on the calendar before they call it quits. on Saturday, 11/12 they play Acheron with Gaza, Tiger Flowers, & Don't Give A Fuck, and then their final date is on 12/17 at Death By Audio with the great Triac, Psychic Limb, Disciples Of Christ (mems of Magrudergrind), and Backslider. Advance tickets are not available, so make sure you get to the Acheron early to send-off NYC's best grind band right.
Defeatist recently released their final LP Tyranny of Decay. Stream it below in full and order your copy before they (the band and the LP) disappear for good.
Reminder: a pair of bands featuring members of Magrudergrind, Coke Bust & Sick Fix, will hit NYC on 11/19 at Acheron with Masakari and Grudges. Grudges will ALSO play Saint Vitus the night before (11/18) as part of a show with Black Anvil, Bloodiest and Mutilation Rites. Tickets are on sale for the BA show.
Stream that Defeatist, as well as other material from Masakari, Bloodiest and others below.
Masakari at Power of The Riff
Coke Bust will team with Sick Fix (both feature Chris from Magrudergrind) for a weekend that will include a stop in Philadelphia at Barbary on 11/20 and a stop in NYC at Acheron on 11/19. The NYC show will also feature an appearance from Cleveland d-beat faves Masakari (!) and Brooklyn's Grudges. More details are forthcoming, but for now save the date.
Check out some live video from Coke Bust's recent West Coast tour, alongside the show flyer and a full Masakari live set.
