Gehenna shares the wealth at Acheron, 8/10/2012
Though death-doomers Ilsa were forced to bow out due to van issues, Gehenna still destroyed Acheron on Friday (8/10) with assists from North Carolina's Young and In The Way, Cali's Skin Like Iron and Greenpoint grinders Psychic Limb. The show was Gehenna's first appearance in over a decade and the band started it out right, playing the opening notes of Bolt Thrower's "World Eater" before moving into favorites like "83%" which rightfully opened up the pit.
The Gehenna appearance was the first of a few dates on their way to This is Hardcore 2012 (where they were joined by SLI). It was a rare appearance for Young and In The Way who played only two shows over the weekend before heading back south.
Pictures and video from The Acheron are below.

Gehenna at A389 2012 (more by Fred Pessaro // BBG)
For those of you not at This is Hardcore this weekend, tonight's can't miss show at Acheron (8/10) will feature Gehenna, the California crew that hasn't blessed NYC since sharing the stage with Catharsis at CBGB's in 1997 (their set was eventually turned into the Eat, Fight, Fuck. Live At CBGB's split with their tourmates). The band will be joined by North Carolinian gods of hellfire hardcore Young and In The Way, death-doom rollers Ilsa, California's Skin like Iron and NYC troublemakers Psychic Limb. $10 gets you in.
The rest of the weekend has similarly interesting appearances. Saturday (8/11) will see a reunion of Shriner at Gramercy, though across town Tommy's Tavern will host Neo Cons (ex-86 Mentality) along with Swaath, Correspondences and more. And make sure and end your weekend with an appearance from prog-thrash favorites Vektor, who will hit Saint Vitus on Sunday
(8/12, tickets) along with Bezoar (who have a new-ish album) and Soon.
Satan's Satyrs will join Nightbitch, Balam and Syphilitic Lust for a show at Acheron on August 24. Flyer for the show is below. For those unfamiliar with the ripping styles of SS, stream some material below as well!
In other news, the previously discussed Red Fang/Black Tusk tour is a reality, and you can check out all dates below. The band play on Bowery Ballroom on November 11 (tickets) and Saint Vitus on November 12 (tickets).
All suggested shows for the next two weeks are below. What did I miss?
Hooded Menace at Union Pool (more by Fred Pessaro // BBG)
It's been more than a year since Hooded Menace sat atop a stacked bill of Negative Plane, Ilsa and Anhedonist at Union Pool, but I remember it like it was yesterday. It was just one of those shows that sticks with you. Hooded Menace's crawling death-doom was booming, larger-than-life and just plain stunning on that gorgeous June evening.
Hooded Menace's focus was on their then-recent LP Never Cross the Dead but now the Finnish band has a new one: the forthcoming Effigies of Evil LP out via Relapse on September 11. Check out two new tracks from the LP, including "Summoned into Euphoric Madness" which makes its debut here. Both are below.
Speaking of that show at Union Pool, don't miss Ilsa when they team with Gehenna, Young and In The Way, Psychic Limb and Skin Like Iron at Acheron on Friday 8/10.
So far no US dates scheduled for Hooded Menace, but hopefully that will change soon. Until then, stream the two new songs below.
Negative Approach at Fun Fun Fun Fest (more by BBG)
This is Hardcore returns to Philadelphia, PA for four days in August at Union Transfer (on 8/9) and Electric Factory (8/10 - 8/12). Both shows will have no barricades for you headwalkers/divers and in the case of Electric Factory, the venue will actually construct a stage in front of their usual stage (!) to get around the existing barricade. Now thats dedication/brutality.
As for the lineup, as usual the cast of hooligans gracing the stages of TIHC are a cast of notables, including Cro-Mags, Negative Approach, Gorilla Biscuits, Breakdown, Blacklisted, Killing Time, Nails, Ringworm, Gehenna and many many more. Full lineup is below and tickets go on sale on May 17th at noon.
Power Trip is part of said lineup, and reminder, the band will hit Acheron on May 15th as part of a string of East Coast dates. All tour dates are below.

The show will center around her solo debut The Bad Wife, and will also feature an appearance from Stephen Brodsky (Cave In) and tickets are on sale. In related news, word on the street says that Made Out of Babies is no more.
Double Negative will return to NYC to play Saint Vitus on February 2nd. Tickets are on sale, and support comes from Murder, Tournament, and Acid Problem.
