Sea of Bees @ SXSW 2011
The Loom are back from a trip down to SXSW and will play a Brooklyn show tonight (April 9th) at Southpaw with My Cousin The Emperor (their CD release party for The Subway EPs), Sgt Dunbar, The Hobo Banned, and Yellowbirds. The show is one of two local dates on tap for the folkies, as the band will also join Sea of Bees at Sycamore on 4/23. That's two weeks before The Loom head out for a week-long tour with Christopher Paul Stelling that gets as far west as Madison, Wisconsin. All dates are listed below.
Also back from SXSW, Sea of Bees (the musical project of Julie Ann Bee) will be SUPER busy towards the end of April! The Sycamore show is one of eleven shows in eleven days, all at various NYC venues. The NYC tour kicks off at The Living Room on 4/21 followed by appearances at Spike Hill, Sycamore, The Rock Shop (with Smoosh), Pianos, Cake Shop, Mercury Lounge, Joe's Pub, Rockwood Music Hall, Glasslands (with Takka Takka), and Sycamore before a final show back at The Living Room on 5/1. In May and June Sea of Bees will be out on tour with Stornoway (one more NYC venue included). All dates are below.
One of the SXSW shows that the Loom played was the Muzzle of Bees Backyard Barbecue. We posted a set of pictures from that. A video is below. One of the SXSW shows that Sea of Bees played, in addition to an NPR "tiny concert" taping, was the "Tree House Diddly" on 3/17 on the roof of Cheers Shot Bar while the sun set. Those pictures are in this post and continue with the NPR video and the other stuff, below...
Bloc Party @ Glastonbury 2007 (CRED)
Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke has a secret confession to his army of supporters - he doesn't like music festivals because they remind him of when he was at school. The British rocker's band performed at the Glastonbury festival yesterday, and will be headlining a number of shows around Europe and America over the summer.Bloc Party had to cancel last time they were supposed to play the Theater at Madison Square Garden in NYC. They try it again on October 3rd - not long after they play Austin City Limits & a show in Toronto. A fan club presale starts Tuesday. More dates surely TBA soon. All known dates below....
But he doesn't find the experience being backstage at festivals very enjoyable.
He says: "It's like being at a school reunion with people you know the faces of but don't really know at all." [Starpulse]

Martha & River Phoenix @ 1989 Acadamy Awards
The Sasquatch-playing, Pipettes-opening blonde kid-duo Smoosh from Seattle will play a show with East Coast kids bands The Tiny Masters of Today and Cear Bears on Fire at Southpaw on SunDAY (June 3). Martha Plimpton was just a kid when she was in Goonies, and she's hosting. 826NYC helps kids learn to read, and that's where all the money is going. More details below.....

Before a riot begins...
a) "underage leggy blondes" = funny...ha ha...laugh (please)
b) Smoosh was on stage. I didn't follow them into the bathroom or anything....
Even if you didn't realize they were Smoosh, you probably noticed the (underage) leggy blondes standing at the back of the stage during Death Cab For Cutie's set at Summerstage last night (August 18. 2005). It makes perfect sense since they're in town to play three shows and Jason McGerr of Death Cab is Smoosh's drum teacher.
Colin Meloy & The Decemberists joined Ben Gibbard & Death Cab For Cutie on stage last night for an encore cover of Fleetwood Mac's Go Your Own Way at their (August 18, 2005) show on Central Park's Summerstage.

UPDATE 2: Smoosh was standing on stage during this
* 'I Rock I Roll' was at a Smoosh performance inside the offices of SPIN magazine last night.
* Smoosh play tonight at Knitting Factory.
* Smoosh open for Sufjan Stevens at Bowery Ballroom on Friday.
Bowery/Sufjan must have heard that Bunky was the opener to catch at the three shows Sufjan Stevens is headlining at Bowery Ballroom because Castanets were moved to the sold-out Saturday night show, and Bunky is now opening the just-on-sale-work-night-hungover-Sunday show (calendar here). Yes, that's bunk.
In related news, tickets are on sale for a Smoosh show at Knitting Factory the same week.
I haven't stressed enough how much I love the new Mountain Goats record.
Spoon is playing the Siren Festival this Saturday.
Stevens Album Soars Despite 'Superman' Flap
Smoosh is opening for Sufjan Stevens in NYC.
Dredg is playing Bowery Ballroom in NYC on Aug. 17th, 2005.
Not everyone likes the Bunky album, but supposedly their live show is legendary in San Diego. The biggest complaint about the album seems to be the unsuccessful translation of that live experience. Now we (New York) can find out when they open for labelmate Sufjan Stevens at Bowery Ballroom on August 20th (Liz Janes also on that bill). (Tickets)
Bunky is playing one of the three shows Sufjan is headlining at Bowery. The August 21st one still hasn't been announced. The August 19th one has Smoosh & Half Handed Cloud on the bill. If you don't know who Smoosh is, then it's essential you check out this feature on NPR.
