Slayer/Glass Candy/Polyphonic Spree/Slayer surfer @ FFF Fest 2013
Closing Fun Fun Fun Fest, Slayer treated Austin to greatest hits and then some: "Raining Blood," "South of Heaven," "Dead Skin Mask," "Seasons in the Abyss," etc. They also dug out the aforementioned "Die by the Sword," a high point off their 1983 debut LP, Show No Mercy. The eighth Fun Fun Fun Fest happened last weekend (11/8 - 11/10) at Austin's Auditorium Shores, hosting three days of music and fun (fun fun), with such acts as MIA, Deerhunter, Slayer, Television, Thee Oh Sees, Kurt Vile, Cut Copy. Johnny Marr, The Walkmen, Jurassic 5, Killer Mike and loads more. Many of them played again as part of the FFF Nites shows, including shows presented by BrooklynVegan and Invisible Oranges.
After fooling no one with a false ending of "South of Heaven," the third backdrop of the night unfurled at the back of the stage: a parody of the Heineken logo reading "Hanneman" and bearing his life dates. The top read "Angel of Death." Reign in Blood's terrifying opening track - and closing number on Auditorium Shores - now serves as an epitaph for Slayer's fallen co-founder. - [Austin Chronicle]
We were there in the thick of it and, as mentioned above, you can check out pics from Day 1 HERE and HERE, pics from Day 2 pics HERE and HERE; and pics from Day 3 are HERE and HERE. See you again in 2014 Austin.

Snoop Dogg @ The Wellmont Theatre 9/27/2012
Snoop Dogg (not Lion!) played two area dates at The Paramount in Long Island on September 26 and Wellmont Theater in Montclair on September 27. Pictures from the latter, including billows of smoke, moshpits (?), well-endowed dog costumes (??) and all adorn this post. NSFW?
In other news, it seems that Snoop's weed influence is going much further than fans and his son. Congrats go out to Snoop for being appointed to Obama's post as "Staff Chief of Joints" in the wake of his legalization of pot (not really). What are we talking about? The whole story is below in video form, along with more pictures from Wellmont Theater.
50 Cent wants you to stop masturbating, and he's taken to Twitter to tell you how to do it:
Step 1. To avoid the urge to masturbate stop going to porn sites. And there you have it. In related news, 50 may share the stage with his rival Fat Joe for for a Chris Lighty Tribute at the BET Hip-Hop Awards.
Step 2. Make a conscious decision not to turn your head after people walk by you.
Step 3. Do not go to strip clubs
Step 4. Do not look at lust filled magazines
Snoop Dogg on Teen Son's Pot Use: 'He's Learning From The Master'. Catch Snoop Lion at Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ tonight. He goes on at 10 (or when he feels like it). Tickets seem to still be available.
We premiered a new Strife song today.
More importantly, we're pretty sure your cat wants this for his or her birthday:
Conor Oberst played a 19 song solo show in Austin, with help from Daniel Johnston and Ben Kweller.
Ben and Conor will again team up at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate park this October.
Obama and marriage equality supporters The National are currently in the studio (hopefully crafting the follow-up to 2010's High Violet), and have posted a six-second clip, titled "Jazz Brunch," to their new Soundcloud account. You can have yourself a "Jazz Brunch" HERE.
Steve Earle is playing an Obama fundraiser at Brooklyn Bowl.
When in doubt, do like Andre Williams says, and "Blame it on Obama."
26 years ago today, heavy metal lost one its greatest bassists and heroes to a tragic bus accident. His recordings are among some of the greatest albums ever produced in metal. Cliff Burton, you are missed.
Metallica's Kirk Hammett will be signing his new horror memorabilia book on 10/11 in New York, NY @ Barnes & Noble, 10/13 in New York, NY @ Comic Con, 10/25 in Los Angeles, CA @ Barnes & Noble, 10/26 in Burbank, CA @ Monsterpalooza, 10/27 in New York, NY @ Chiller Theater, and on 11/20 in San Francisco, CA @ Books Inc.
Speaking of the Ramones, a young Morrissey did not like them, at least the first time around.
Tumbull, CT tried to throw a Michael Bolton concert, lost lots of money in the process.

Snoop Dogg / Lion in 'Reincarnated'
Snoop Dogg, who now goes by Snoop Lion, plans to release his first album under the new moniker later this year via Vice. The album is called Reincarnated, it's reggae based, and was produced by Major Lazer. Reincarnated was influenced by Snoop's trip to Jamaica, regarding which he said:
"I didn't want to be Snoop Dogg on a reggae track...I wanted to bury Snoop Dogg and become Snoop Lion, but I didn't know that until I went to the temple and received the name Snoop Lion from the Nyabingi priest." "From that moment on, I started to understand why I was there and was able to create something magical in this [Reincarnated] project...something I haven't done before in my career."A documentary, also titled Reincarnated, about Snoop's time in Jamaica which delves into his time with Rastafarian elders and recording the album with Diplo in a Jamaican studio is also in the works. It will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, which happens on September 6 - 16. Check out the trailer for that documentary and his new Snoop Lion single, "La La La," below.
Snoop recently debuted the song live at Osheaga in Montreal, which went down from August 3-5. If you haven't been keeping up with our Osheaga coverage, pictures of day 1 are HERE, pics of day 2 are HERE, and pics of day 3 are HERE. A video of him playing "La La La" at Osheaga is below.
Though he wants to "bury Snoop Dogg," he hasn't forgotten totally about his past. He performed his classic debut LP, Doggystyle, which turns 20 next year, in full at NYC's Catalpa Festival, which went down late last month (pics from that fest are HERE). Some videos of Snoop's Catalpa performance are below. He also mentioned in an interview with Metro, that he's got other 20th anniversary plans for the album too: "I got sumthin on tha back burner but u gotta stay tuned in to see what that is. Be on da lookout for sumthin real special to keep ya knockin for anutha 20, ya dig?!?"
