Portishead @ Hammerstein Ballroom, 2011 (more by Dana [distortion] Yavin)
While All Tomorrow's Parties held it's final "holiday camp" festival at Camber Sands, UK -- dubbed "End of an Era" -- back at the start of December, ATP will continue to hold events elsewhere. ATP Iceland happens July 10 - 12 in Keflavík at Ásbrú, a onetime naval base. They just announced their first headline acts -- Portishead and Interpol, neither of whom have ever played Iceland. The only other acts announced so far are all Icelandic: Sóley, For a Minor Reflection, Samaris, Low Roar, and Mammút. More to be announced and tickets are on sale now.

Icelandic artist Sóley, who was last through town while on tour with Of Monsters and Men, is back visiting North America and will be playing shows on her way down to Austin for SXSW. The dates include two in NYC: tonight (2/26) at Union Hall with Prairie Empire (tickets) and Friday (3/1) at Rockwood Music Hall (tickets). All tour dates are listed below.
If you haven't heard Sóley's delicate, lovely new album, We Sink, you can stream it below.

Of Monsters and Men @ T5, 11/20/2012
Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men's rapid rise in popularity is one of 2012 big success stories, as evidenced by two sold-out NYC shows at Terminal on Tuesday (11/20) and Wednesday (11/21). Pictures from Tuesday's show are in this post. Both nights featured openers openers Elle King and fellow Icelander Sóley who plays a headlining set tonight (11/23) at Rockwood Music Hall to which tickets are still available.
More pictures from Tuesday's T5 show are below.

Icelandic singer Sóley, who you may know from her band Seabear, is currently on tour with her fellow countrymen Of Monsters and Men who play Terminal 5 on Tuesday (11/20) and Wednesday (11/21), both of which are sold out. But if you are curious just to see her, Sóley will play Rockwood Music Hall on Friday (11/23) and tickets are still available.
If you haven't heard Sóley's most recent album, 2011's We Sink, you can download "I'll Drown" from it above or stream the whole thing via Rdio below (along with the video for "Smashed Birds"). Her music is delicate, strange and rather lovely. I caught a few songs at M for Montreal on Saturday (11/17) when she opened for Of Monsters and Men at Metropolis and thought she was pretty good, but the fragile nature of her music is certainly better suited to an intimate venue like Rockwood than a 3,000 capacity venue where people are less inclined to pay attention to the opener.
All Sóley dates are listed below, along with streams and video.
Seabear @ by:Larm
Seabear was one of the bands I made sure not to miss when I ventured to Norway for the by:Larm festival in February, but I came away with mixed feelings about the band whose leader Sindri Már Sigfússon has been called the Icelandic Beck. Maybe I had jet lag and was sleepy or they were sleepy or they just make sleepy music. That's not to say the 7-piece band completely scared me away. If they had, I wouldn't be writing this post to point out that you can download the perfectly pleasant track "Lion Faced Boy" above (and listen to more like it at their MySpace), and that you can see them when they make their NYC debut at Mercury Lounge tonight (3/25) and when they play their 2nd NYC show at Southpaw on Friday (3/26). Both shows are with their tour-mates, Chicago's Via Tania, and Friday (and most of the tour) also includes a set by Soley aka Seabear's Sóley Stefánsdóttir. Check out an MP3 from her up there too.
Naturally, the band is visiting from Iceland for a trip that included SXSW where they played a bunch of shows last week. The trip was also timed to coincide with the release of their new album We Built A Fire. It's out now on Morr Music which is also the label that will release a new Soley EP on the day of the Southpaw show (both MP3s above are from those records).
Some live videos from SXSW, more pictures from by:Larm (where they performed at a club called John Dee), and all tour dates, below...
