"I really like the parts of this new Feist record where she doesn't sound like she's singing in a church choir..." - Ivan Rosebud

Feist is playing a special show with an orchestra at 9pm in the crypt of the Church of the Intercession (550 West 155th St) in Manhattan TONIGHT (10/3). The ONLY way to get tickets to the show is to buy her new CD/LP Metals at Sound Fix in Brooklyn... starting NOW. The album comes out Tuesday, so you may need to pay for it now, get your ticket, and pick up the album at the store on Tuesday (or maybe they'll give it to you now). Tickets are extremely limited, so hurry!
UPDATE: This show will be filmed by Mason Jar Music.
Feist returns to NYC to play BAM as part of a November tour.

Hold on tight, the following post may make the internet completely collapse upon itself. Christopher Weingarten, notorious blogger/tweeter (as 1000TimesYes) and ex-drummer of Parts & Labor, welcomed his latest book Hipster Puppies over the summer. In celebration, Weingarten is throwing two upcoming events. The first is a (rescheduled due to hurricane Irene) "Hipster Puppies instore" at Sound Fix Records this Saturday (9/10). "Bring a dog, get a dollar off a book." Chris will be DJing. Flyer below.
The second, more my style, is a release party on September 21st at Public Assembly with live musical appearances from Zs, Burning Star Core, Mountains, and Dinowalrus, all of which appear on the Hipster Puppies: New York Cassette which is also celebrating its release that night. Limited to 350 copies, this 87-minute tape is available for purchase or for free to the first 50 people to buy tickets. Tickets are on sale now.
Zs

In addition, Zs will also celebrate their own release of a Sky Burial cassette, "an extremely limited 18-minute sound collage of lo-fi recordings snatched from the band's European encores". Available in two editions, a golden mirror finish and a white one (limited to 50 and 150 respectively), the release is the first of a trilogy of recordings for Zs that will include a 2x7" called 33 and an LP entitled This Body Will be a Corpse. Look for the LP on Playbutton and the 7" on Northern Spy (who will release many upcoming Zs recordings) but in the meantime, stream "33" and a snippet from the Sky Burial below.
Zs is also scheduled to play a release show for 33 in November (details forthcoming) as well as the first night of the Spy Music Festival going down on Oct 1st (at Shea Stadium) and 2nd (at Zebulon). Zs will join Bird Names, Colin L. Orchestra, Dan Melchior und das Menace, Neptune, Eleven Twenty-Nine, and Haunted House for the first night, while the second night will feature appearances from The Spanish Donkey, Hubble, Angels in America, Weyes Blood, and Zaimph. The shows are in celebration of record label Northern Spy's first anniversary. Full details on the festival are below.
In related news, Sam of Zs also is a member of Diamond Terrifier, who will play The Gutter on Sunday (9/11) with Charlie Looker (Extra Life), Patrick Higgins, and Eric Wubbels. $5 gets you into this 21+ event of avant-garde experimentalism. Stream an excerpt from Diamond Terrifer's forthcoming Himalayan Appalachia below, and look for it on limited cassette on 9/17.
Extra Life also have a show coming up at Glasslands.

Damon & Naomi

Damon & Naomi will add to the embarassment of Record Store Day riches by playing a free show at Sound Fix in Brooklyn on 4/16 at 7PM, AND releasing a limited 7" featuring "Walking Backwards" with a cover of Scott Walker's "The World's Strongest Man" on the flip. Look for that limited 7" wherever new vinyl is sold.
The former Galaxie 500 pair are also headining out on a US campaign with Amor de Dias in May, adding Ghost/Boris axeslinger and frequent collaborator Michio Kurihara (Boris, Ghost) on some dates and saxophonist/arranger Bhob Rainey of nmperign on others. Look for Kurihara at their Brooklyn show on May 22nd at Knitting Factory. Tickets are on sale.
Damon & Naomi will be touring in support of their new album, False Beats and True Hearts, which is out 5/17. Download "Walking Backwards" and "Shadow Boxing" from that CD above. Stream the same songs, and watch their new video, below.
Amor de Dias

Amor de Dias ("Love of Days") is the duo/supergroup of Alasdair MacLean (The Clientele) and Lupe Núñez-Fernández (Pipas). Their album, Street of the Love of Days, is also due 5/17. Their label is Merge Records, and Merge says:
"Over the course of three years, they quietly put together their debut record during evenings and weekends as they called in local friends (Louis Philippe) and visiting musicians (Damon and Naomi, Gary Olson) for sessions, building up the songs' multifaceted arrangements and vocal harmonies with harps, bouzoukis, strings, recorders, and brass over the core of dual Spanish guitars and the dream imagery of their bilingual lyrics.Try out "Bunhill Fields" from their album above. The result is a focused, cohesive jewel of chamber pop that reflects a little of Gal Costa and Caetano Veloso's elegant brand of bossa nova, a bit of Erik Satie's haunting night music, and a large dose of spooky psychedelic folk. But the beautiful harmony that sings throughout the record makes it all their own."
Expect a bit of collaboration between the two duos on tour. All dates below...
Sound Fix Records (more by Leia Jospe)

As the Daily Swarm points out, and as confirmed by the store, Sound Fix Records is for sale for $250,000. "Situated at the corner of Berry St and North 11 Street, one block from Bedford Ave, Sound Fix is widely recognized as one of New York's finest record stores which has an inventory of 8,000 CDs, LPs, DVDs, magazines, and books.... [there is] 9+ years left on lease."
That said, the store's owner says he has no plans on closing, even if nobody bites, but that he needs to field offers as a 2nd job is taking up more and more of his time and it's becoming "a bit much".

Wes of Ra Ra Riot & Vampire Weekends question Rostam's song choice

Ra Ra Riot completed their invasion of NYC with two appearances yesterday (8/24) as part of a celebration of their new LP The Orchard, out now via Barsuk. Photos from their Sound Fix (live set) and Brooklyn Bowl (DJ) appearances continue below.
The Syracuse band will be back in NYC at the tail end of September for a string of four appearances that are part of a larger tour. The NYC shows are at Bowery Ballroom (on 9/21 & 9/22) and MHOW (on 9/23 & 9/24). Tickets are on sale for all four shows (9/21 tickets, 9/22 tickets with Lower Dens, 9/23 tickets with North Highlands & We Barbarians, and 9/24 tickets with Amanaguchi). More openers to be announced.

Ra Ra Riot at BAM (more by Dominick Mastrangelo)

Ra Ra Riot will be making even more appearances in NYC in the coming month. The Syracuse band's onslaught begins on August 24th (Tuesday) when the band celebrates the release of it's new LP The Orchard (via Barsuk) with a FREE acoustic set at Soundfix Records at 6PM. Later that night, the band will be at a second FREE event, a 21+ DJ party at Brooklyn Bowl featuring the band and Vampire Weekend swapping turns on the wheels of steel (neither band is scheduled to play live music).
Less than one month after the band blesses NYC with those gratis events, Ra Ra Riot will play a two night stint at Bowery Ballroom (on 9/21 and 9/22) followed by another two night stint at MHOW (on 9/23 and 9/24). 9/21's support at Bowery has yet to be announced (tickets), but 9/22 at Bowery will feature Lower Dens (tickets), 9/23 at MHOW will feature North Highlands and We Barbarians (tickets), and 9/24 at MHOW will feature Amanaguchi (tickets). If each date will have two openers, then there's still a lot to be announced too.
As previously mentioned, the dates are part of a much larger tour that will see Ra Ra Riot play from sea to shining sea (and Bumbershoot) as part of a full US campaign towards total da-da-domination.
We Barbarians open much of the tour. Other tour openers and updated tour dates, and a video, below....

Frightened Rabbit, whose North American tour stops at Webster Hall on April 28th, will be doing an in-store at Sound Fix earlier that night. Note that the Webster Hall show (with Bad Veins and Maps & Atlases who are at Maxwell's tonight/Thursday) is sold out.
Also coming up at Sound Fix are Fol Chen on April 18th (whose current tour with Liars hits Bowery Ballroom tonight and Music Hall of Williamburg the same day as the in-store) and Golden Triangle (who have plenty of other shows, listed below) on May 4th.
For Record Store Day, Sound Fix doesn't have any live music, but will be opening at 10:30am to sell the RSD exclusive records from this list. Some discs they should have copies of (according to the clerk there) are Black Moth Super Rainbow's limited double-LP version of 2009's Eating Us, a super-exclusive Rodriguez 7" with "Inner City Blues (recorded live in the streets of Paris) paired with "I'm Gonna Live Til I Die" (live cover of Frank Sinatra song), and a Fela Kuti 10" EP (4 songs, recorded in LA in 1969; cover is replica of first Nigerian Fela Kuti record).
The full schedules for Sound Fix and Golden Triange are below...

To celebrate the release of the new album "Life Is Sweet! Nice To Meet You" (U.K 15th Feb / U.S 16th Feb) I'll be playing a special set of songs at Sound Fix Records in Brooklyn (map). I'll be joined by a few guests and it is completely free!Lightspeed Champion's last NYC show was supposed to be at Bowery Ballroom in January. It was cancelled, though Dev did show up to sing some songs with his backing band Spacecamp at the show they played instead at Coco66 that night. Sound Fix flyer and the new video for "Marlene" below...
You will also be able to purchase the new album at the instore as well as my new short story collection Bad Era Of Me.If you can't come to the show that same day I'll also be performing and discussing the new record earlier live on WNYC's SOUNDCHECK show at 2:30pm so tune in! [Lightspeed Champion]

Britt Daniel of Spoon will be delivering a solo acoustic performance at Sound Fix Records in Williamsburg on Saturday, January 23rd (time TBD). That's four days after Spoon's new album, Transference, is released by Merge who by the way are selling a limited edition pink vinyl 7" of first single "Written in Reverse" (cover above).
Sorry for the massive amount of Spoon posts, but I rushed the pre-sale post up and the full tour was announced after the Radio City show (and then I finally heard about Sound fix) (thx Hiro).

Hopefully Cymbals Eat Guitars can rest after this weekend and before they leave for Europe (they kick off an overseas tour by opening or Wilco in Hamburg on November 7th). Frontman Joseph D'Agostino has been sick since CMJ, and the band canceled one in-store appearance at Sound Fix Records because of it. Last night (10/29) they made up that show in the store's new North 11th Street location, but Joseph was still really sick. Pictures above and below.
Oh Halloween, the band is playing a Halloween party on Steuben Street in Brooklyn (actually they may have canceled). More Sound Fix pictures and all dates below...

If looking for a way to see some of CMJ's top bands without a badge or tickets, three stores - Sound Fix, Other Music and Apple Store Soho - are all offering free in-store performances through the week.
Other Music in Manhattan hosts El Perro Del Mar tonight (10/20 @ 8pm). El Perro - real name Sarah Assbring - was to play a Joe's Pub show on November 9th. That's been canceled. She's opening for Peter, Bjorn & John this November - their Nov. 10th show was moved from Terminal 5 to Webster Hall and bumped a day earlier (now Nov. 9th).
If you're out today (10/20), El Perro Del Mar will be DJing (4-5pm) at Pianos this afternoon. Perhaps she'll spin something from her new record, Love Is Not Pop, which is out today (there's some nice dance remixes on at the end of it).
Also at Other Music, The Very Best play a daytime in-store (noon) on Thursday (10/22), which is probably less than 12 hours after they play (Le) Poisson Rouge's Green Owl CMJ showcase on Wednesday night with Theophilus London, Violens, Grandchildren, Ninjasonik and Nat Geo Music (the late show after LPR's New Amsterdam/Cantaloupe Recs showcase).
At Sound Fix (all shows 7pm), Antlers play a short acoustic set on Wednesday (they also play a BV showcase tonight, 10/20, at Music Hall of Williamsburg), and Cymbals Eat Guitars (at BV Pianos party Saturday afternoon) perform on Thursday. Tonight (10/20) at Sound Fix, you can catch Brooklyn's own Bell. More dates below.
At the Apple Store Soho, the extremely busy the xx play on Thursday and Portugal. The Man on Friday. More details below.
Speaking of the xx's busy schedule, let's just go through it: They're also at Mercury Lounge on Wednesday (10/21), Music Hall of Williamsburg on Friday with School of Seven Bells (now sold out) and a late-night Tribeca Grand party on October 23rd with FIXED's DJ JDH + Dave P (RSVP).
If you're after the Antlers and the xx together in one convenient spot, they're both playing a late-night NME CMJ party on Thursday, October 22nd at The Delancey with We Are Enfant Terrible, Reni Lane, Yes Giantesses and Ultra Violent Lights. The xx are the "special guest" on that show.
All times for the CMJ in-stores, tour dates and details are below...

Sound Fix Records is open at their new Brooklyn location. The address is 44 Berry Street, on the corner of N. 11th. It's just one block from their old store, and they're hosting in-stores again. The first will be this Saturday (9/19) at 2pm with Damon & Naomi who are also playing Le Poisson Rouge with A Hawk and a Hacksaw that same night.
D & N have a new DVD coming out called "1001 Nights". It isn't released until September 29th, but you'll be able to pick one up at both shows if you go.
Beirut @ Sound Fix (more by Kelly Bruce)
It's been a memorable five years on Bedford Avenue, hasn't it? Raise your hand if you were there on our opening night when the Mountain Goats performed. Now we're getting ready to pack our things and move, and frankly, we'd rather you buy everything than haul it one block away, so we're going to say goodbye to our Bedford store this weekend with a special 10% sale on all CDs and LPs that are not already sale-priced. The sale starts Saturday. We're also going to be selling a ton of CDs at wholesale prices, so be sure to snatch them up too.---After Sunday, we close for two weeks and re-open at our new space at 44 Berry Street, on the corner of N. 11th. Thanks to all our wonderful customers for your loyal support over the years and we look forward to continuing to serve you at our new store.

Five years ago, Sound Fix opened its doors with the aim of creating a new kind of record store, one that combined the finest in independent retail with food and drink and live music. The opening-night act in its adjoining bar were the Mountain Goats. Over the years, Sound Fix has hosted some of the biggest names in independent music, from Will Oldham to Beirut to Jens Lekman to the Sea and Cake and countless other acts. During that time, while record shops all over the nation big and small have closed their doors, Sound Fix has flourished, proving that the right kind of record store could still thrive in today's environment. After five wonderful years on Bedford Ave., Sound Fix is packing up and moving to a new location - but not very far. In fact, only one block away, to the corner of Berry and N. 11th St. The new location, a beautifully renovated 90-year-old factory at 44 Berry Street, seeks to build on the store's success by offering more than ever - more titles in more formats, from CDs to vinyl to 7-inches to books to DVDs.
Together, with Beacon's Closet and Brooklyn Brewery and Brooklyn Bowl, this stretch of N. 11th promises to be one of Williamburg's more popular blocks. The store intends to continue its in-store tradition, but the days of selling booze and coffee and bagels are over. With several neighbors at 44 Berry offering those services, Sound Fix can focus on selling music.
The date for the reopening has not been established yet, but we are seeking to open sometime in September. Another press release will go out when the opening date has been determined.

Record Store Day - a nationwide event created to support independently owned record stores - will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2009. A list of participating NYC stores is available online at the Record Store Day venue list.
On RSD, Generation Records (210 Thompson Street, NY, NY) will host an acoustic in-store by punk band The Bouncing Souls, free for customers who pick up a copy of the band's 20th Anniversary Volume 1 7-inch the day of the show.
Other events, such as in-stores at Williamsburg's Sound Fix, which announced its intent to celebrate the event with live music despite ending shows after losing its liquor license in February, are still being announced.
Many record labels are supporting the event with limited-edition records. Matador, for example, will be pressing 2500 copies each of Jay Reatard/Sonic Youth and Sonic Youth/Beck split 7-inches, plus a Pavement Live In Germany LP. Thrill Jockey is sending out 900 copies of Records Toreism, an LP that includes tracks from Mountains, Tortoise, White Hills, Trans Am featuring Tim Soete, and Baltimore's Double Dagger (who cover "Stagger Lee") and will be packaged with two zines (feat contributions from Ian MacKaye and more).
Record Store Day, which coincides with the 2009 Coachella Festival, will also be running a record shop at the fest. The press release, copied below, notes that the Coachella on-site store, "previously operated by Virgin, is noted for its high profile foot traffic and good vibe." Both events come in the same month that the Times Square Virgin Megastore will close - the NYC shop is notable for having the nation's highest sales volume. Its sister location in Union Square will be gone soon after.

"Thanks to the amazingly douchey neighbors, Sound Fix Lounge is seeing its final days. In true DYI fashion, they're going out with a bang by giving away what's left of their bar stock at this closing night party. Liquor. Beer. Fun times. All you can drink for $10, all night. That's it. Oh yeah, and make sure you say "fuck you" to the neighbors before stumbling home." [MyOpenBar.com]

"Marissa Nadler played the last live concert in Sound Fix Lounge on Saturday -- or did she?The article goes on to say that Sound Fix has no plans on closing the record store, though Bradley "added that his lease is up in a year".Owner James Bradley vowed to keep putting on shows, despite losing his liquor license last month.
"It is my fervent hope and desire to continue the tradition of live music in Williamsburg," said Bradley, who plans to have an event on Record Store Day on April 18, and to host weekly performances.
Sound Fix Lounge, on North 11th Street, just west of Bedford Avenue, had its license expire at the end of February following noise complaints under the former owner.
But Bradley hasn't given up on shows entirely, though he admitted that coaxing patrons to live music would be difficult without alcohol.
"The two seem to go hand-in-hand," he said.

Marissa Nadler also played in a church on Friday.

The Forms @ Sound Fix on Feb 20, 2009 (by Jonny Leather)

1. This Thursday's (Feb 26 @ 8pm) Big Terrific is our last show at Sound Fix ever! Isn't that so sad? Sound Fix is closing down, as you may have heard, to become an Urban Outfitters that only sells toe rings. Who even wears toe rings besides little babies? Ugh. I have been hosting shows there for over a year and this is very disappointing, but we're going to send the place off right. We're saying goodbye with some of our favorite guests ever: improvisational musical wunderkind Reggie Watts, one of the best stand-ups in New York and SNL writer John Mulaney, Videogum internet sexebrity and dear friend Gabriel Delahaye, all-star jokesmith Jesse Popp, and Brooklyn master storyteller DC Benny. This show will be funny and sweet and sad and please come help us say goodbye.Marissa Nadler plays the final Sound Fix in-store concert on Saturday.2. Luckily, nothing can stop Gabe & Jenny and me and our love of attention. Beginning March 11th, Big Terrific moves to every Wednesday night at Cameo, a gorgeous new music/art/performance space behind the Lovin' Cup at 93 North 6th Street between Berry and Wythe in Williamsburg. Still at 8pm, still free, just on Wednesdays now. And even closer to the train! We are super excited about this venue, and they are really committed to cool things. The show will be even better because now there is a green room for costume changes, and we can have live music. Are you even ready for how fun this will be? There's a SHOWER we can use. Tell your friends. Starting March 11th, Big Terrific is on Wednesdays. NOTE: this venue has nothing to do with the funk-inspired R&B outfit Cameo, though they do provide Gabe Liedman all his wardrobe.

SOUNDFIX SOUND FIX FAQ
Q: What's the price of admission at your in-stores? How can I get tickets?Sound Fix will, sadly, have to change the answer of "Can my band come play at your space?" to "No" after February 28th because that's the date of the last in-store (in-lounge) ever. The whole lounge closes soon after.
A: Our in-stores are free to the public and seating is general admission.Q: Where do the bands play?
A: In the Sound Fix Lounge, behind the record store.Q: What time should I show up?
A: Please don't call and ask us this. We don't know. Every show is different. Sometimes people show up an hour early to get a good spot, sometimes the place is empty a half hour before showtime. If you really love the band and want a good spot, get here early. That's all we can say.Q: Is Sound Fix one word or two?
A: Two words! Please do not spell it "Soundfix." It really drives me crazy....
Q: Can my band come play at your space?
A: Unlikely. But it can't hurt to ask....
Q: Where is Beacon's Closet?
A: A block and a half from the store, down N. 11th St. Please stop asking.Q: What's the greatest album of all time?
A: Depending on my mood, Neil Young's Tonight's the Night or the Who's Sellout
Marissa Nadler will be the final performer at the Brooklyn venue. It's one day after her show at Greenpoint's Lutheran Church, and a few days before the one she's playing at Joe's Pub.

Los Campesinos! @ Sound Fix Records (more by Kyle Dean Reinford)

After "Anonymous" posted "soundfix closing at the end of FEB???? true or rumor??" in the comments yesterday, I investigated, and sadly one person that would know did get back to me with a simple "True". Free Williamsburg called Sound Fix "and they confirmed that they were indeed shutting down, 'just the bar,'"
This sucks for the free shows, and this is especially unfortunate for comedy. As we were just pointing out, Sound Fix has filled the gap left after Rififi closed. The Williamsburg bar has in fact become one of NYC's most consistent weekly (free) comedy show locations. The comic's comic writes...
If it seems like only a year ago that live comedy shows were beginning to find a new happy home behind the Sound Fix record store, that's because it was only a year ago, as Max Silvestri started hosting shows then and I was pitching the venue as a potential full-on replacement for the East Village's Rififi, which closed last summer, in part, because that club's owner gave up a similar battle with the neighbors. Gabe & Jenny joined up with Max for weekly Big Terrific shows that have lived up to the name, and other shows soon followed suit, making for lively lineups and large audiences just about every weeknight. As we've pointed out many times, Sound Fix has been battling neighbors and the city over noise and other violations practically since they expanded into being more than just a record store. At least the record store isn't also leaving with them.
In the meantime, go check out a show at the venue during its final days. A few of them are listed below...

Max & Gabe D & friend @ MoMA - Jan 6, 2009 (by Fred Benenson) (via)

I don't get to see nearly as much comedy as I used to, but the scene is as vibrant as ever. If the mood strikes and I find myself wanting to get my yuck-on there is absolutely no shortage of one-off shows and recurring weekly shows. The Tribeca branch of the 92nd St Y has been booking some insane comedy shows recently. I caught Zach Galifianakis there a few weeks ago and was mightily impressed by the performance space and the insane, reasonably priced beer list at the bar. Sound Fix in Williamsburg has free comedy every Wednesday and Thursday. Joe Mande and Noah Garfinkle host Totally J/K every Wednesday at 9:30pm, while Max Silvestri, Gabe Liedman and Jenny Slate host Big Terriffic at 8:00pm on Thursdays. These shows fill the void left by the demise of Rififi and its staples Invite Them Up and The Greg Johnson & Larry Murphy Show by attracting big names like Zach Galifianakis, Sarah Silverman, Janeane Garofalo, Todd Barry, Eugene Mirman, and zillions more. Speaking of Greg Johnson, he's got a free show every Sunday at Pianos. And speaking of Invite Them Up, former host Bobby Tisdale now has a semi-regular, RSVP only show happening in Greenpoint called Wards of Merkin. It's usually $10 and there's usually free booze and top shelf comedians. And don't forget that the UCB Theater and The Pit have calendars bursting with options as does Comix's underground lair Ochi's. And that's just barely scratching the surface of the goings ons. Below are some shows currently on my radar...

Venue: Sound Fix Lounge, Address: 110 Bedford Avenue (Williamsburg, Brooklyn), Directions: L to Bedford or G to Nassau, Admission: No Charge - Tuesday, January 20th, 2008, 8PM"
"This inauguration day, join (Le) Poisson Rouge in celebrating the historic inauguration of our 44th President with live sets that turn hip hop on its head with guitar-driven feedback, make the most of heavy metal soul, and see one of DC's own legendary punk rockers take the stage. The concert celebrating this historic event will feature live performances by Apollo Heights, 24-7 Spyz and HR (of Bad Brains)."
This next one is not Inauguration-themed, but it is also tonight (1/20). You've heard Thurston Moore say he likes them. Black Bubblegum likes them too. Black metal band Malkuth is playing Glasslands Gallery.
You can also get 'punk' at Market Hotel. Full list of tonight's NYC events coming shortly.

The group came together at Cardiff University in 2006, originally consisting of Neil on guitar, Ellen on bass guitar, and Ollie on drums. In March 2006, Tom joined the band, assuming the role of lead guitarist and songwriter, later followed by Gareth on vocals and glockenspiel, Harriet on violin and keyboard, and finally Aleksandra on vocals, keyboards, and melody horn. "Los Campesinos" roughly translates as "The Farmers" (or "The Peasants") in Spanish, even though none of the members are Spanish, or Farmers. [Wikipedia]While their tour-mates Titus Andronicus were busy playing a show with Vivian Girls at Maxwell's in Hoboken, UK band Los Campesinos! played their first US show of 2009 over in Brooklyn in the bar portion of the Sound Fix record store (January 14, 2009). They didn't play long though. The whole set was around 25 minutes long and five songs (which actually is all you should ever expect from a free Sound Fix show). They were also missing one member who called out sick. For that reason they joked that they should be called "Los Campesixnos!" (pronounced with a combination of French and Spanish). The small room was packed, and they had to stop letting people in pretty early.

One night before the tour begins (1/14), Titus also have a local show scheduled at Maxwell's with Vivian Girls (tix). Now so do Los Campesinos!, and it's free and at SoundFix in Brooklyn (1/14, 8-9pm, first come, first servied). All other dates below...The Replacements' "Answering Machine" is in need of an update. There's no denying that the Mats' mix of bitterness and loneliness is still powerful, but the choice of technology is a bit dated. Los Campesinos! try to modernize things. And while lacking the acidic tone of the Replacements, this caffeine-loaded U.K. act makes up for it with bratty anger, stomping into the chorus with this refrain: "I'm calling you again on your telephone, and all I ever get is another stupid ringtone."
