"Following last year's 10th anniversary, which crushed previous attendance records and set a new mark for the speed with which tickets sold out, the Sasquatch! Music Festival unveils its 2012 lineup which once again features 4 days of music. The festival, hailed as "a model of well-paced programming...in a four-day schedule as efficient and natural feeling as an expertly built algorithm" by NPR Music while Wired notes, "leave the landscape out of it and Sasquatch! has a lineup to kill for," runs May 25-28 (Memorial Day Weekend) at The Gorge, the internationally acclaimed concert venue carved in the basalt cliffs high above the Columbia River Gorge in Quincy, WA."The Sasquatch! Music Festival takes place, as usual, at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington over Memorial Day weekend (May 25-28). And this year's lineup is:

Spiritaulized at Radio City in 2010 (more)

Psych rockers Spiritualized announced last year that they've signed with Fat Possum in the US and Domino imprint Double Six in the UK to release their new album, Sweet Heart Sweet Light, their first since 2008's Songs in A&E. The album was initially set for a March 19 release date but according to an interview with SPIN, the release is being pushed back a few weeks and will likely come out in late March or early April. Spiritualized frontman/main person Jason Pierce said:
had the rather foolish idea last November that I could deliver the record that's been sent out and keep working on the real version. I'd meet the delivery date they need for reviews and things like that and nobody would be any the wiser that I'd be carrying on with the mixing. [The new version of the album] is quite different. People say that all the little mixing moves I'm doing now are just for myself, but to me they're no different than the mixing moves I did at the start of the process. Balancing things is what mixing is. Some bits are more realized and closer to what I wanted them to sound like, but I'm in the unenviable position now where the [album] that's out there isn't finished. The album's tracklist is below.
Spiritualized already have a number of UK dates scheduled in support of the album, and they've just announced a North American tour, including a NYC show happening on May 7 at Terminal 5. Tickets go on sale Friday (2/3) at noon with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (2/1) at noon.
All currently known dates and Sweet Heart Sweet Light tracklist below...

...with a choir and an orchestra with strings and horns. Mindblowing, mesmerizing, massive, epic, surreal, amazing, glorious, fantastic, "Best Concert Ever", "I can Die Happy Now"... whatever adjective you choose, Spiritualized was it at Radio City Music Hall on Friday night. Jason Pierce and band performed their most acclaimed album, 1997's Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space, in NYC's swankiest venue, followed by a 2-song, 'spellbindingly sensational' encore of "Out Of Sight" and "Oh Happy Day" to close out the setlist.
The Friday night show was the fifth of five ZYNC-presented SPIN 25th Anniversary shows (the other four were all at Terminal 5). And thankfully there was an online stream, so those who couldn't be at the concert, could still experience it live, and can probably experience it later since the whole thing is sure to show up in various bootleg forms including on YouTube fairly soon. Speaking of the stream, since it's Friday night and the show just ended and we won't have any real pictures anytime soon, a whole bunch more stream screen caps that still give you a good idea of what it looked like, continue below...

7/26 - Smashing Pumpkins @ Terminal 5A ZYNC/AmEx ticket presale for all five shows IS GOING ON NOW (started at 10am). Public sale happens Monday, June 14th at 11am. That is exactly consistent with the on-sale info Spiritualized posted with the previous announcement for this Radio City show, and with the on-sale info posted with the "Smashing Pumpkins" announcement. The Smashing Pumpkins Terminal 5 show is part of a string of "intimate" shows Billy Corgan and band are playing in July.
7/27 - The Flaming Lips @ Terminal 5

Spiritualized at Pitchfork 2008 (more by Elizabeth Weinberg)

Spiritualized have confirmed that they will be playing Radio City Music Hall on July 30th. They've also confirmed that they will in fact be playing all of their landmark Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space. It will be their lone North American date, as well as the last performance of the LP in it's entirety. Spiritualized recently reissued Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space with tons of bonus material.
Tickets will go on pre-sale on June 11th (Friday), and then general sale on June 14th (Monday). The previously discussed ticket link is gone. More details are forthcoming.
Spiritualized recently played all of Ladies & Gentlemen... in it's entirety at the Matt Groening curated All Tomorrow's Parties in Minehead. Video from that show, as well as video from Iggy & The Stooges, Boredoms, and James Chance & The Contortions, are all below....

Spiritualized reissued Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space at the end of 2009...
"The album release co-incided with live performances of the entire album; part of All Tomorrow's Parties 'Don't Look Back' series. The band were approached two years ago to perform the album live on its 10th anniversary. It took a while for J.Spaceman to finally agree to the idea. 'It was a decision made at altitude' he says referring to being on top of Mt. Buller in Australia at the time. The live performances will see the regular band augmented with strings, brass and choir. The full reissue and bonus CD tracklists are below. Spiritualized performed the album in full in London, Gateshead and Manchester in October and December. The rumor is that they'll do the same this summer at Radio City Music Hall in NYC (soon, like July)... Oh, actually July 30th according to Ticketmaster. It is now 12 years since 'Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space' made a profound impact in the summer of 1997, both critically and commercially, with its psychedelic soundscapes and heart-rending lyrics. It has influenced a whole range of musicians ever since. It was NME's album of the year for 1997 and reached No.4 in the official charts. Originally packaged as a giant pill offering a written prescription, the concept was creatively inspired reflecting the depth of emotion and trauma laid bare on this truly remarkable work."...

Osheaga (Vero.b)

Osheaga, the outdoor music festival in Montreal, celebrated its third birthday this weekend with a bevy of local acts, some emerging talent, and great live performers. Day one (Sunday August 3rd) of the festival was also one of the most hectic musical days in recent [Montreal] memory. The week long Francophone music festival, FrancoFolies, concluded the same day with a performance by former Osheaga artist Malajube, and Wolf Parade (another former Osheaga performer) finished a tour downtown with their first Montreal performance since the release of At Mount Zoomer....

Of all the times I've seen Spiritualized, Saturday's seated show (7/26/08) at the Music Hall of Williamsburg sadly ranks as my least favorite. That isn't to say the show wasn't good; it really was. But for me it just wasn't AS good as past performances. The set list certainly did not disappoint. The band, complete with a pair of gospel singers, played classics including "Shine a Light", "Electricity", and "She Kissed Me" as well as tunes from their new record Songs In A&E including "Soul on Fire" and "Sweet Talk" (complete set list below). But I thought show lacked the energy and electricity of the Bowery/Irving/North Six shows from years ago, as well as the emotive qualities of the Acoustic Mainlines gig at the Apollo. I realize it wasn't their first show on the tour, but halfway through the set it began to feel like a dress rehearsal for the Terminal 5 show happening the next day in Manhattan. I wish I saw the non-seated T5 show so I could compare them. How was that one?
To summarize, the Brooklyn show was expertly played and the song selection was impeccable, but I left feeling a little blase about the experience. Listen to the Friday DC show on NPR. Check out the Brooklyn setlist below...

"Sunday was the ideal day to visit the church of Spiritualized, who reminded everyone they've all but secured their status as Gen-X's Pink Floyd, with mastermind Jason Pierce pleasing his unwashed congregation by pulling out Spacemen 3 songs along with material from the recently released Songs in A&E." [Seattle Weekly]

Spiritualized are working their way around the United States since playing the Pitchfork Festival on Sunday. On Friday night they make a stop at the 9:30 Club in DC and NPR is making that show available to everyone with an internet connection. Then Saturday and Sunday it's Music Hall of Williamsburg and Terminal 5 in NYC respectively. A few more Pitchfork pics below...

Spiritualized @ Coachella 2008 (kccr)

Following the beautiful "Acoustic Mainlines" performances in November and April, including a mind-altering performance deep in the desert at this year's Coachella (was it really?), Spiritualized announce plans to return to the US with a full electric band.Bad news for NYC. Tour dates and that video below.....The band will be performing songs from their catalogue, including tracks from their soon-to-be released sixth studio album, Songs in A&E, (May 27, 2008 on Fontana International/Spaceman Records). First single "Soul On Fire" comes replete with a stunning music video, inspired by Jason Spaceman's hospitalization from double pneumonia shortly after recording the album. It was directed by Jim Canty and filmed in London and on a glacier in Iceland.

Beginning in April, things are going to start getting extremely busy for the folks in Spiritualized. Songs in A&E, their first full length LP in 5 years, is set to to be released in Europe on May 26th (US date TBD). A single for the song "Soul on Fire" will also precede the album release by one week and will be available as a 7-inch and digital download. The album has a whopping 18 tracks and features a recurring track entitled "Harmony" which appears at 6 different points throughout the record. Full tracklist below.
J. Spaceman and Sun City Girls also did the soundtrack to the Harmony Korine film Mr. Lonely (trailer). What's with this recurring "harmony" motif Spaceman? Anyhow, the soundtrack will be available via Drag City on April 28th, and the movie....

We had our live Spiritualized appetites whetted late last year with a handful of intimate and beautiful Acoustic Mainlines shows. There will be three more Acoustic Mainlines gigs in the US in April, including a stop at Coachella on April 27 in the Mojave Tent. Then in July Spiritualized will embark on an Electric Mainlines Tour which will kick-off with an appearance at the Pitchfork Music Festival on July 20th. After Pitchfork they will continute their Electric Mainlines tour throughout the US until sometime in August when they'll head overseas for gigs in Japan and Europe. In September they'll be back in the states to wrap up the Electric Mainlines tour.
Oh, and...
There is a Goldfrapp v Spiritualized remix included on the cd & digital release of the next Goldfrapp single, 'Happiness', released by Mute Records in April.Tour dates and everything else below....

The last few times I saw Spiritualized (Bowery, Irving, Northsix), I was treated to a truly phenomenal wall of light and sound. Ever since those shows I've been pining for them to come back to the states again. After a painful four year wait, a period of time that almost saw the demise of Jason Pierce, they came back to the states with a handful of gigs billed Acoustic Mainlines.
Their stop at The Apollo in Harlem didn't disappoint. As a matter of fact, this show was probably one of the most perfect musical experiences in recent memeory, even with the occasional douche-nozzles hollering out completely ridiculous and embarassing nonsense here and there. The set-list was beautifully constructed, and the addition of the strings and background vocalists nearly brought a tear to my eye at points. As much as I like my comedy, metal and hardcore, nothing can compare to the acoustic renditions of "Ladies And Gentlemen We're Floating In Space", "Broken Heart", "Stop Your Crying" and the rest of the 90-minutes of material I was lucky enough to experience. -Klaus

Spiritualized in Denmark, Nov 2, 2007 (CRED)

This week, Spiritualized broke a three or four year absence on this side of the Atlantic with a series of acoustic concerts that premiered at Bimbo’s, one of San Francisco’s best and oldest venues. Every seat in the small club was taken with fans who have patiently waited for Jason Piece, the mastermind behind Spaceman 3 and Spiritualized, to take the stage again and reclaim his legacy. [car less in LA]The NYC show is tomorrow (Nov 16, 2007) @ The Apollo Theater. Simple Kid is opening. It's sold out, but keep trying - I heard tickets keep going on and off sale.
