Stinking Lizaveta

Call it a triple-triple. Three great power trios, Stinking Lizaveta, Pigs (mem-Unsane), and Wizardry, will team up to throwdown at Union Pool TONIGHT (5/7). The show is part of a two-week tour for Stinking Liz that will bring them as far as Madison, Wisconsin before heading back to their native Philadelphia.

Stinking Lizaveta's Sacrifice & Bliss hit last year via At a Loss Recordings. The band recently reissued the release on 180 gram vinyl. Pick up a copy.

Wizardry is also on tap to play another show in the following week, May 16th when they team up with Descender and Troop & Trouble to support the sludgy-crust Atlanta quartet Music Hates You at The Charleston. Music Hates You will log other dates along that trek, peppering the mid-atlantic with pockets of misanthropy. Full sked is below.

All tour dates, all flyers, and some video is below....

"In the course of talking about the reissue I brought up the idea of playing some shows because I was like well look, if we were ever going to do this, if we were ever going to play again, you know, now would be the time to do it." - J Robbins

J Robbins

Jawbox was one of a few who defined the sound of the 90's underground. After releasing records on respected uber-indie Dischord, the band dropped their masterpiece For Your Own Special Sweetheart as their major label debut for Atlantic. Razor sharp post-hardcore riffage collided with tense emotional songwriting to create one of the greatest, yet most unsung LPs of the era. The band followed up Sweetheart with a self-titled LP before calling it quits in 1997.

Recently Jawbox celebrated reissued Sweetheart and celebrated with a performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. We cornered vocalist/guitarist J Robbins before that performance to talk about the band, their future, his production work, and the Baltimore/DC music scene...

Kylesa

Kylesa, Stinking Lizaveta, Darsombra, and Unearthly Trance played Cake Shop last night (5/30) as part of the venue's four-year anniversary party. This was Kylesa's third show in the NYC area this week including their opening slot for Coheed & Cambria at Starland Ballroom as well as a show at Maxwell's with Wetnurse. It was their fifth NYC area show this month.

In mid June, Kylesa will tackle Europe, playing shows with the mighty Coalesce, Torche, Harvey Milk, and many esteemed others along the way.

Harvey Milk & Torche will team up for a tour that brings them to MHOW in Brooklyn on July 26th. Tickets are still available.

Coalesce's new record, OX hits stores on June 3rd. HIGHLY Recco'd! Same goes for Stinking Lizaveta's Sacrifice & Bliss and Kylesa's Static Tensions, both of which hit stores earlier this year.

Philly prog-jazz-doom trio Stinking Lizaveta have announced the release of Sacrifice & Bliss on Mar 31st via the mighty At A Loss (current home of Deadbird). Check out a trio of tracks streaming at their myspace.

Instead of turning to the maniacal Steve Albini for production duties (like they did on 2007's Scream of the Iron Iconoclast), the band employed Sanford Parker (Minsk, producer of the last Nachtmystium and a slew of other great releases) as head knob-twiddler on this album. Check out the LP cover and tracklisting below.

This is Stinking Lizaveta's fifth LP jawn (sorry, had to.. they're from Philly), having released their first three albums on Joe Lally's (Fugazi) fallen Tolotta Records, home to Wino's Spirit Caravan and The Obsessed, as well as Dead Meadow, Othrelm, and others. By the way, Wino's new album Punctuated Equilibrium drops Tuesday.

While we wait for Sacrifice & Bliss, sate your appetite with the two-song Rights For Bicyclists single available NOW at iTunes here or if you are in Philly or Lancaster, check them out before they shove off to tour Europe in late March. All tour dates below...

SVT New Album

Neurot Recordings have announced details for THREE Neurosis-related releases in the next two months! First up, a new solo album from the mighty Scott Kelly, who will release The Wake on May 5th, his first release in the seven years since his debut Spirit Bound Flesh. Two weeks later, the world's most intense elementary school teacher Steve Von Till drops A Grave is a Grim Horse, his first non-Harvestman release in six years (Harvestman recently collabo'd with Fear Falls Burning). More details on A Grave Is A Grim Horse can be found here. The third we knew about, but has now gone official: A Storm Of Light's debut And We Wept the Black Ocean Within will be released on June 2nd. Read our recent interview with Josh Graham here.
