Scott Weiland

Former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland passed away on his tour bus earlier this month, and now TMZ reports that "toxicology testing shows Scott Weiland died from an overdose of several drugs and alcohol -- and his history of addiction also played a role."

According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, he overdosed on cocaine, MDA and alcohol. His heart disease, asthma and "multi-substance dependence" were also factors.

If you missed it, you can read Billy Corgan, Pavement, Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver's tributes to Scott, and watch videos of his final NYC-area shows.

Scott Weiland

Scott Weiland was supposed to play a show in Minnesota last night when he was found dead on his tour bus. The tour he was on had just been in the NYC-area for three shows. He played NYC proper on November 25 at Gramercy Theatre, then Montclair, NJ's Wellmont Theater on 11/28 and Long Island's Paramount on 11/29. His final show was December 1 in Toronto.

Some videos from all three of those shows have surfaced, including one of Scott playing STP fave "Dead and Bloated" at Gramercy. Check out the videos below.

Also: Billy Corgan, Pavement, and Scott's former bandmates in Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver penned tributes to him.

Scott Weiland

Former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland passed away yesterday, and was honored in tweets by Dave Navarro, Krist Novoselic, and more. Today, another '90s alt-rock musician wrote a long eulogy for him, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan. He posted it to the Pumpkins' website, and it reads:

Having just woken to the news of this passing, I feel compelled to put pen to paper and pay my respects to Scott. And in that I will not pretend to know more than I know, or add some sad homily to how he loved his life. At least in that, may I now say he is undoubtably in the arms of grace and eternal love.

May I also offer my humble condolences to his family, friends, and band mates; who have, and are, suffering this great loss. For when anyone as vaunted leaves far too soon, we mourn all that might have been.

As any fan, I find myself reflecting on what I do have in my own treasure chest: in scarce moments where Scott and I spoke as contemporaries or competitors, and got to know each as people other past the footlights and shadows we were so busy casting to the world. It may seem trite in reflection, but I'd try to make him giggle when I saw that the manic whirl of the dumb parties we were at (in Hollywood, no less!) might be causing undue stress.

It was, I'd guess you'd say, my way of apology for having been so critical of STP when they appeared on the scene like some crazy, man-fueled rocket. And not only was the knight up front freshly handsome to a fault, but he could sing too! As any supreme actor gives a real and different voice to each character played.

It was STP's 3rd album that had got me hooked, a wizardly mix of glam and post-punk, and I confessed to Scott, as well as the band many times, how wrong I'd been in assessing their native brilliance. And like Bowie can and does, it was Scott's phrasing that pushed his music into a unique, and hard to pin down, aesthetic sonicsphere.

Lastly, I'd like to share a thought which though clumsy, I hope would please Scott In Hominum. And that is if you asked me who I truly believed were the great voices of our generation, I'd say it were he, Layne [Staley], and Kurt [Cobain].

So it goes beyond tragedy to say it is we who lost them, and not the other way round...

Pavement, who took digs at both the Pumpkins and STP in "Range Life," wrote in a now-deleted Facebook post: "Rest peacefully Scott Weiland. In no way shape or form did we ever want to add to your misery."

Stone Temple Pilots also posted a statement:

Dear Scott,
Let us start by saying thank you for sharing your life with us.
Together we crafted a legacy of music that has given so many people happiness and great memories.
The memories are many, and they run deep for us.
We know amidst the good and the bad you struggled, time and time again.
It's what made you who you were.
You were gifted beyond words, Scott.
Part of that gift was part of your curse.
With deep sorrow for you and your family, we are saddened to see you go.
All of our love and respect.
We will miss you brother,
Robert, Eric, Dean
As did his other band Velvet Revolver (with Slash and Duff from Guns N Roses):
We are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of our old friend and bandmate, Scott Weiland. We experienced a good chunk of life with Scott, and even in his darkest times, we all had hope and love for him. His artistry will live on, of that, there is no doubt.

Deepest condolences and sadness are for his children, Noah and Lucy. We all travelled around this world together on tour; our band, wives, and kids...and we grew to a big family that still remains to this day.
It's just so sad and brutal from any perspective.

Rest In Peace Scott
Slash, Duff, Matt, and Dave

Scott Weiland's three final shows were last week in NYC, NJ and Long Island. You can watch videos of them.

scott Weiland

Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland has passed away according to a tweet from Dave Navarro. "Just learned our friend Scott Weiland has died. So gutted, I am thinking of his family tonight."

TMZ confirms that Scott was found dead on his tour bus

Weiland was on tour with his band Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts ... they were supposed to play the Medina Ballroom tonight, but the show was cancelled.
A source connected to the band tells us Scott was found Thursday night on the bus around 9 PM -- presumably, shortly before the band was to go on.
The former lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver famously battled substance abuse for years. It's unclear right now what caused his death.
Scott was 48.
Rest in Peace, Scott.

Scott Weiland

The above screenshot comes from Scott Weiland's Facebook page where he posted a video saying he is not in jail for meth, but actually in an LA studio recording with his bandmates. This was in reaction to TMZ who still insists that Scott is in fact in jail. TMZ says:

Weiland just posted a video to Facebook saying he's NOT in jail. He appears to be in an L.A. recording studio. But there's a bit of a twist ...

We just spoke to a rep for the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. who tells us, "He is definitely in custody. We did a physical check on that inmate and he is currently in custody."

And ... the Beverly Hills Police Dept. gave us a written statement titled, "Celebrity Arrest," and in the statement it says, "The suspect, former Stone Temple Pilots band member Scott Weiland (46 years of age), was taken into custody for burglary and possession of a controlled substance."

Stay tuned ...

TMZ's initial claim is that Scott has been in jail for four weeks for stealing razors and meth possession... The PiLOT thickens.

UPDATE: TMZ admits their mistake with this update:

L.A. County Sheriffs are now confirming the famous Scott Weiland is NOT in custody ... and have launched an investigation to find out who exactly they have locked up.

This story is unbelievable -- Sheriffs tell us they believe a Scott Weiland impersonator is currently behind bars ... and claim he looks identical to the singer ... including his trademark red hair.

We're told once TMZ called cops after the real Scott posted online video calling BS on his arrest -- they went and confronted the unknown man and established he was a knockoff.

The sheriffs -- who are in charge of the jail -- claim the Beverly Hills PD made the arrest and ID'd the guy as the former Stone Temple Pilot Scott Weiland. Pseudo Scott was processed and has been in jail since July 26th.

The guy in jail allegedly stole the razors and had meth ... but he ain't famous.

Now he is?

For those keeping score, your man Klaus has played drums in many many unpopular and unsignable bands since 1991. I've dragged my 1964 Ludwig Oyster Black Pearl 4 piece kit (2nd rack tom not shown) with 1965 Gretsch snare (all of which were purchased in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts for $175) from one end of the earth (the Northeast) to the other (the Midwest mostly) hundreds of times. 'Tis a gorgeous kit, in phenomenal condition, and I have endured hundreds if not millions of compliments regarding it's eye-watering beauty. I am a man who appreciates a nice set of drums. And I'm a man who appreciates a man who appreciates a nice set of drums. Therefore, I am a man who appreciates this wonderful compilation video featuring the great David Letterman appreciating his various musical guest's gear, focusing primarily, but not exclusively, drums. The video, and a list of who is in it, including GBV, Feist, Beirut, James Blake, The Strokes, Mastodon, St. Vincent, and many many more, is below. Behold!

Stone Temple Pilots

This morning a press release went out that Scott Weiland has been "terminated" from Stone Temple Pilots. To that Scott says:

I learned of my supposed "termination" from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press. Not sure how I can be "terminated" from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that's something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday.

- Scott Weiland
Ironically, Scott's "solo" tour, which hits NYC, NJ and PA in March has him "Celebrating STP Core and Purple in their entirety".

Local H
Local H

With Velvet Revolver (roffle at that name/band, forever) officially dunzo, Scott Weiland and the rest of the lads in Stone Temple Pilots, who recently played SXSW, are touring off of their forthcoming self-titled album which features "Between The Lines" (video below). That tour now includes a show at the relatively tiny Gramercy Theater in NYC on 5/18 (Tuesday). Tickets go on sale at 10AM Friday, if you're into that sort of thing.

And speaking of the Gramercy on May 18th and the 90s, Local H will play a separate show with Kinch at the same venue on the same night. Tickets are on sale for the NYC date of their "The 6 Angry Records" Tour:

It's all in the numbers... Local H is taking a cue from their sold out, 7 night stand in Chicago and taking all 6 of their studio albums on the road. Every night, the band will put all 6 of their records in a hat (sorry guys, no b-sides); one lucky (?) member of the audience will be selected to pull a record out of that hat and Local H will play it front to back. On the spot... No, really.

And the nominees are:
Ham Fisted
As Good As Dead
Pack Up The Cats
Here Comes The Zoo
Whatever Happened to P.J. Soles?
12 Angry Months

Awesome idea for a tour.... Neurosis, Sonic Youth, Bjork, are you listening? Local H on the road in support of 68 Angry Minutes, their live DVD that hit the shelves in the tail end of last year. Local H and STP tour dates, and some videos are below...
