Night Horse, in the chill station

TK Webb & The Visions have unfortunately dropped off of the previously announced Night Horse show at Pianos on 8/13 (Thursday), but have been replaced by a "special guest" headliner. No official word on who said guest is, but I would bet that you can make an educated guess based on Night Horse's current label, and the other band in town that night (and what is written on Pianos' website).
Night Horse also play NYC again a few days later (8/16) - at Union Pool with Tournament and Orphan. All dates HERE.
Night Horse and Graveyard's Tee Pee Records label-mates Nebula are on tour with The Entrance Band. Their NYC show is August 22nd @ Santos Party House. Tickets are still on sale.
Ancestors, which features members of Night Horse, have a new album on the way.

Nebula, inna black-metal stylee
Call it the unofficial Tee-Pee-clusterfuck week if you want, but for nine days this August, four separate tours featuring bands on their label will pound NYC with a barrage of shows, with a few shows falling on the same day.... sigh.
First up, the psychedelic LA band Nebula have announced a US tour with The Entrance Band. That includes a stop at Santos Party House on August 22nd with Naam. Tickets are on sale. Nebula are touring to promote their Heavy Psych (the LP name and in practice), which will pounce on an unsuspecting public on July 7th via Tee Pee. Check out "Pulse" and The Dagger" from that LP, both of which are downloadable above.
The Entrance Band (an Ecstatic Peace-signed band who are sometimes just called "Entrance") are also touring with Sonic Youth even sooner. In fact they are playing United Palace in NYC with them on July 3rd (tickets are still available).
The Entrance Band is one of a few openers that are scheduled for the Sonic Youth tour which has Sonic Youth taking July 4th and 5th off. The Entrance Band aren't taking as long of a vacation though. You can catch them headline Southpaw in Brooklyn on the 5th (this Sunday) with TK Webb & the Visions. Tickets are on sale.
Meanwhile, another Tee Pee band from the westside is hitting the eastern shores within a week of Nebula's show at Santos AND have a release coming on the same day as Heavy Psych. Night Horse, who share guitarist Justin Maranga and drummer Brandon Pierce with the mighty Ancestors (not the black metal band), have scheduled a pair of NYC area dates for the second week in August. They play Pianos on August 13th with TK Webb & The Visions and Union Pool on August 16th with Tournament and Orphan. Night Horse will release the first of a three part split 7" series planned for this summer with Dirty Sweet. Look for that 7" on July 7 and check out the first track, "Good Bye Gone", available above.
Next up, Swedish doom-proto types (or is that doom-prototype types?) Graveyard are scheduled to tour the US with CKY (yes, the one with Bam Margera's brother) which includes a NYC date at Gramercy Theater on 8/13, same night as Night Horse at Pianos. Tickets are on sale.
Oh, and did I mention The Warlocks shows at Bowery Ballroom and Maxwell's on August 14th & 15th respectively? Tickets are still available (BB here, Maxwell's here).
Although Ancestors are NOT on the road in any significant fashion, they recently announced their new album, the massively epic Of Sound Mind. Featuring contributions from David Scott Stone (Unwound, Melvins) and Sera Timms (Black Math Horseman), look for Of Sound Mind to hit stores on Oct 6th via Tee Pee Records. MUCH more on this record to come... highly recommended.
Full tour dates for Nebula, Night Horse, The Entrance Band, and Graveyard are below.

Friendly Foes @ the Bell House (more by Tim Griffin)

The new band from Ryan Allen of Thunderbirds are Now!, Friendly Foes - not to be confused with Friendly Fires, is currently on tour and visits NYC this Saturday night (4/11) for a show at Pianos.
"I have multiple personalities in songwriting," said Friendly Foes singer/guitarist Ryan Allen, referencing the more-fun-n-simple-style-sun bursts of the songs that served as the genesis for the trio - while comparing it to the splintery-jostle-punk pop of his other band, Thunderbirds Are Now! "I just wanted to do something that played into what I actually listened to," including mid-90's rough hewn indie rock and straight-up-fun-sugar-pop bands. They were last here in December. Grab an MP3 above. All tour dates below.
[Real Detroit Weekly]
Also playing that show Saturday at Pianos is Real Estate, who, are also playing a show on Friday (4/10, tonight) (and have plenty of other local shows scheduled over the next month). If you haven't caught them by now, well, you have lots of chances. All dates below.
The Friday Real Estate show (tonight) is a Showpaper benefit at Monster Island Basement that TK Webb & the Visions, Vaz, Necking, Sisters and Skeletons are also playing. It looks like a great lineup that was put together very last minute; one of two big Todd P shows happening this weekend - the other is Black Dice at Market Hotel.
Skeletons also just played shows at both Mercury Lounge and Zebulon. Andrew Frisicano writes:
Skeletons, who spent most of March in Europe, opened the Thee Oh Sees-headlining show at Mercury Lounge on Sunday, April 10th. The trio was sparse and on point, playing mostly the tuneful tracks of 2008's Money. An extended groove stretched out the middle of the band's set (the longest of the night) showcasing its counterpoint guitars and textured drums under the poetic, wiry vocals of frontman Matt Mehlan.Tour dates below...

"I have an upcoming full-length "Little Hells" which is a significant record for me in many ways." [Marissa Nadler]TK Webb, Marissa Nadler, The Muslims and Dungen were scheduled to play the Kemado Records showase at Music Hall of Williamsburg on Friday night before midnight (10/24). Children and Cheeseburger were going on after. Zach was going to stay to see Dungen (he had somewhere else to be late), but they were running late so he only caught the first three bands. It was the only show Marissa played during CMJ (I was sad to miss it) and it was one of many for the Muslims (though they cancelled at least one - the Narnack showcase at Santos that was the next night). More pictures from Music Hall below...

Witchcraft

Swede mages Witchcraft have a handful of planned dates trickling out, including a show at Bowery Ballroom on September 17th with compatriots (in nationality and inspiration) Graveyard and Brooklyn's own TK Webb & The Visions. Tickets go on sale August 1st at noon. Peep the list of dates so far, down below.
Witchcraft is also on board for Lollapalooza 2008 - the only band playing Lolla AND the dying Ozzfest in the same week. Unfortunately, like Radiohead and Rage Against The Machine, Witchcraft's performance won't be viewable from the live stream. Wilco, Broken Social Scene, The National, The Raconteurs, Stephen Malkmus, and many others will be though.
Witchcraft will also be intersecting with a Witch (minus the -craft) tour in LA with Ancestors. Starting September 19th, Graveyard is touring with The Sword and Clutch.
Ancestors have a new album on the way, Neptune With Fire, due on August 19th on Tee Pee. Ancestor, the new album by TK Webb & The Visions, is due September 2nd on Kemado. Dates below...

The Weight

The Weight Are Men. I can't/won't literally vouch for that (no offense dudes), but I know that The Weight will drop an album of that name on August 5th via The Colonel Records, their first album and their first since playing our SXSW party in March. The classic rock/country-tinged "A Day In The Sun" (download above) is pretty representative of Are Men.
King Tuff is an offshoot of the mighty Witch (and Feathers for that matter), sharing member/frontman Kyle Thomas betwixt them. Whereas Witch is all Sabbath-ian brawn, the King Tuff song "Sun Medallion" takes its roots in lo-fi garage rock (from Was Dead, due in the "late summer/early fall").
TK Webb & The Visions is TK Webb (duh), with The Visions being comprised of past/present members of Love Is Laughter and a current member of The Comas & Blood On The Wall (Brian Hale & Nic Gonzales). The upcoming Ancestor (Kemado, Sept 2nd) retains alot of the blues of Phantom Parade, but heads in a heavier rock direction ("Teen Is Still Shaking" is above).
Tournament is one of those hardcore/punk bands that seems to be on every punk/heavy music bill in NYC. Their newest EP, the eclectic Swordswallower, is available for download (IN FULL) for the meager price of nada at their myspace. (TOTALLY worth it)
So.... what the hell do these bands have in common? They are all playing the inaugural Freedom Fest NYC this July 4th-6th!
To set it off right, here's how the press release ends:
Things to expect:I hope so. With hopes on high, lets check out the rest of it:
Total Fucking Mayhem.

You've heard the tale before - songwriter leaves his hometown to make a name in the Big Apple with a few songs and a dream. TK Webb left Kansas City to perform his brand of gritty country-folk wrapped in a dusty, blues veneer with just a guitar, harmonica, and a suitcase to kick a beat to. Since then, he has established himself in the city. He even now has a backing band called The Visions behind him - adding layers to his homespun tales of woe.
There's a timeless quality to the music, no doubt a byproduct of mixing genres, covering every decade from 1940 to 1980. And though he is certainly not the first artist to make this type of music, Webb's identity comes through, making it undeniably his. TK Webb just released an album called Phantom Parade on The Social Registry (home to Blood on the Wall and Gang Gang Dance), and that's whose official showcase TK Webb already played. If you missed it, they have another show on October 20th @ Galapagos in Brooklyn with Stars Like Fleas and Bear In Heaven, and if you miss that too - you can always catch them on tour with The Wallflowers. They play Highline Ballroom together on October 22nd. All tour dates below....
