Disclosure at MHOW last month (more by Jason Bergman)
Disclosure

Yesterday (4/22), Summerstage announced its 2013 season. But one of the shows that was not on that announcement and was just revealed today is a co-headlining double bill by dance duos Disclosure and TNGHT at Central Park Summerstage on August 6 with support from Julio Bashmore. The show starts at 6 PM so the only downside of this is that it might not be dark yet during Disclosure or TNGHT's set depending on which one goes first. But that aside, this is going to be one of wildest Summerstage shows of the summer. Tickets go on sale Friday (4/26) at noon. The show happens right after Disclosure plays Lollapalooza. TNGHT doesn't play that festival, but they do play a different Chicago festival in July, Pitchfork.

Disclosure recently announced that their debut album, Settle, will be out June 3 via PMR. It features previously released singles, "White Noise" (feat. AlunaGeorge) and "Latch" (feat. Sam Smith), in addition to the just-released track, "You & Me" (feat. Eliza Doolittle). If you didn't hear that one yet, it's just as awesome as their previous tracks and ups the excitement even more for that album to drop. Check it out below.

TNGHT also slightly less recently revealed a new track in support of their tour which just hit Coachella twice and NYC once. The track is called "Acrylics" and it's even more of a banger than anything on last year's self titled EP. Stream that one below as well.

All dates for both Disclosure and TNGHT are listed, along with both song streams, below...

Production duo TNGHT (aka Hudson Mohawke and Lunice), who are playing this year's Pitchfork Festival, are about to kick off their North American tour this month, which surrounds their appearances at Coachella. That tour was initially supposed to hit NYC for shows at Webster Hall on April 16 and 17 but TNGHT have cancelled the April 16 date. They're still playing on April 17 though and tickets for that show are still available. Updated dates are listed below.

TNGHT also produced the track "Lay It Down," which appears on Lil Wayne's new album I Am Not A Human Being II. Nicki MInaj is also on that track and you can stream it below.

Wayne is supporting that album on a huge tour with T.I. (who recently played NYC at Best Buy Theater) and Future. That tour hits the NYC area on July 19 at Jones Beach and July 24 at PNC Bank Arts Center. Tickets for those shows are not on sale yet but you can check ticketmaster for updates.

All dates are listed, along with that song stream, below...

TNGHT

Hip hop production duo TNGHT (aka Hudson Mohawke and Lunice) is quickly becoming larger than the sum of its parts, and after playing Music Hall of Williamsburg in November (one of three international shows that month), TNGHT have announced their return to NYC, which will happen at the larger Webster Hall on April 17, in between their sets at this year's Coachellas. It's one of a few upcoming dates for TNGHT scheduled at the moment, including a just-announced slot at Barcelona's Sonar Festival. Tickets for the Webster Hall show go on sale Friday (2/15) at noon with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (2/13) at noon. All currently known TNGHT dates are listed below.

At TNGHT's last NYC show, Kanye West came out on stage with them as they dropped his track, "Cold." Following that appearance, and the fact that TNGHT member Hudson Mohawke contributed production to Kanye's Cruel Summer album, it's maybe not so surprising to learn that Hudson Mohawke has signed to Very GOOD Beats, the production component of Kanye's G.O.O.D. Music label (he will also keep his pre-existing contract with Warp). The other half of TNGHT, Lunice, also recently posted a mix (via Pigeons & Planes) that features TNGHT's remix of G.O.O.D. Music's "Clique." And, TNGHT have shared their new-ish track, "R U Ready," which Kanye was heard playing at a Victoria's Secret party during Fashion Week 2012. You can stream that track and Lunice's mix below. Why G.O.O.D. Music didn't just sign TNGHT instead of only Hudson Mohawke? Don't question Kanye West.

All streams and a list of all currently known dates below...

Pitchfork Albums

Today Pitchfork posted the first half (well, first 30 albums) of their Top 50 Albums of 2012 list. There are some surprises on it, like Peaking Lights and Sharon Van Etten, who seemed more likely to end up on their Honorable Mentions list due to their relatively lower scores and the fact that most of the albums on this list were awarded Best New Music throughout the year. Cat Power and Hot Chip also make it, both of whose new albums seemed to have received less love from Pitchfork than previous releases by those artists. A Rustie Essential Mix also makes the list even though his actual album which came out last year didn't make their 2011 list. And of course the expected ones end up there too like Purity Ring, Julia Holter, Schoolboy Q, Miguel, and more. The remaining 20 will be revealed tomorrow (Friday, 12/21).

Check out their 50-30 picks below...

Pitchfork Top Tracks

Pitchfork just posted their much anticipated list of the top 100 tracks of 2012. The #1 slot went to... Grimes! Whether you thought the whole of her album Visions was good or not, it was hard to deny the charms of "Oblivion." (Having that great video didn't hurt either.) Do you think it deserved to top the list? If not then what song should've?

You can check out P4K's entire hot 100 of 2012 below.

Jeff of Passion Pit in Austin in September (more by Tim Griffin)

Passion Pit do a great job of combining pop songwriting and forward-thinking electronic music trends, so when we reached out to their members for a list of their favorite albums of the year, it makes sense that the list has a pretty even split of both of things. The list comes from bassist Jeff Apruzzese and includes the knob-turning greatness of Todd Terje, Disclosure, TNGHT, Scuba, and more, combined with the pop sensibilities of Alt-J, Tame Impala, Alabama Shakes, and more. You can check out Jeff's whole list below.

As mentioned, Passion Pit will come to NYC for their largest headlining show here yet on February 8 at Madison Square Garden with Matt & Kim. Tickets for that show are still available.

A list of all Passion Pit dates and Jeff's 2012 Top 10 are below.

Freelance Whales @ Webster Hall, 11/7/2012 (more by Sarah Gainer)

You can stream the whole thing over at NPR. The band are also have a few shows with Hundred Waters coming up including Maxwell's on January 15 (tix), Music Hall of Williamsburg on January 29 (tix). Kanye w/ TNGHT at MHOW - 11/30/12 (via Holly Liss)
Kanye TNGHT

TNGHT (aka Lunice and Hudson Mohawke) played Music Hall of Williamsburg on Friday (11/30), their third of three shows in November (the other two were in London and Toronto). While on stage, they dropped Kanye West's track, "Cold" off of his Cruel Summer album, which Hudson Mohawke did contribute some production to (but not for that song). And though he didn't actually do much, Kanye himself came out on stage for about 20 seconds during the song to hype the crowd. You can watch a video of the appearance below (via Nah Right).

You can catch Kanye for a longer period of time at the upcoming 12/12/12 Sandy benefit at MSG and at his three pre-New Year's Eve shows in Atlantic City.

TNGHT have also recently made fans out of Flying Lotus aka Captain Murphy and Kendrick Lamar, the latter who freestyled over their track, "Higher Ground" for Gilles Peterson's BBC 6 radio show. A stream of that freestyle and the TNGHT/Kanye video, below...

Captain Murphy aka Flying Lotus
Flying Lotus

If you aren't already familiar with new rapper Captain Murphy, who first appeared on the Adult Swim single, "Between Friends" with Flying Lotus and Earl Sweatshirt, he had been keeping his identity concealed but many rumors circulated that Captain Murphy was the rapper alter ego of FlyLo himself, or a member of Odd Future. He released his impressive debut mixtape, Duality, as one long audio file in a video (which you can watch below) but has since released a deluxe edition with the tracks separated and bonus material, which you can download for free HERE. Most of the mixtape was produced by Flying Lotus and also included production from Brainfeeder producers Jeremiah Jae, Samiyam, and Teebs, plus hip hop production greats Madlib and Just Blaze, and a beat by upcoming duo TNGHT. The full tracklist is below.

If you've been following along with all the Captain Murphy insanity, you may know that he made his live debut last night (11/28) in LA at The Airliner. And as you can see in the picture above from the show, Captain Murphy is in fact Flying Lotus (via Complex). FlyLo has since taken to twitter to comment on the identity revealing.

Mixtape video and tracklist below...

TNGHT

TNGHT, the all-star instrumental hip hop duo of Lunice and Hudson Mohawke, who surfaced earlier this year with a self titled EP on Warp, have announced two North American shows to take place this November, after their show at London's Oval Space (11/15). The first happens in Toronto on November 29 at The Opera House with BADBADNOTGOOD and Mymanhenri and the second happens in NYC the next day, November 30 at Music Hall of Williamsburg with guests. TIckets for the NYC show go on sale Friday (10/26) at noon with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (10/24) at noon.

A list of all dates, fliers for their upcoming shows, and a recent live video of the duo are below.

Danny Brown at MoMA PS1 - 8/25/12 (via @gjhart)
Danny Brown

Perhaps keeping MoMA PS1′s contemporary aesthetic in mind, [Danny] Brown started his set with, "Witit," a bonus track from the re-release of his 2011 album XXX. "Witit" was the perfect starter for the first half of the set, which solely featured songs and verses from 2012. The crowd didn't seem to be as familiar with his recent works, especially his guest verses from Childish Gambino's "Toxic" and Ab-Soul's "Terrorist Threats," but they were engaged nonetheless. "Black Brad Pitt" and "Blueberry," tracks with EDM (electronic dance music) instrumentals and producers, had people particularly enthralled. A number of rappers are attempting to embrace EDM without compromising their gruff images, but few do it as comfortably as Brown who makes a living on both sides of the proverbial fence. [Respect Mag]
Danny Brown came to NYC over the weekend (8/25) for Warm Up at MoMA PS1 with Just Blaze, Nick Catchdubs, BAIO, (of Vampire Weekend), and The Stallions. FADER caught up with Danny Brown, Nick Catchdubs, and Just Blaze at the show and interviewed them, which you can watch spliced with clips of their sets in a video below. As mentioned, Danny Brown and Just Blaze team up again on Monday (9/3) at City Winery's backyard for a Fool's Gold Day Off party with Flosstradamus, Flatbush Zombies, French Montana, and others. That party goes from 2PM-8PM and is free and all ages. Danny returns to NYC when his tour with A$AP Rocky and Schoolboy Q hits Roseland Ballroom on September 27 (tickets).

In related news, a video recently surfaced from a show that promoters Livin Proof put on in London this past July. In the video, Danny Brown is seen in the studio with TNGHT (aka Lunice and Hudson Mohawke), and many are speculating that it means Danny Brown and TNGHT have collaborative material in the works. If it's true, maybe it will sound something like this?

The Livin Proof video, the video interview from MoMA PS1, and a list of all remaining tour dates are below.

Bonde Do Role at Bowery Ballroom in 2008 (more by Bao Nguyen)
Bonde Do Role

Back in June, we mentioned that the Mad Decent Block Parties were returning this summer and then earlier this month, they revealed a list of artists, but didn't say who was playing each city. Now venues have been revealed for all five parties and the lineups for NYC Philly, and Toronto have been announced as well. The FREE NYC party will happen on August 5 at WIlliamsburg Park (in previous years it was at the South Street Seaport) with Major Lazer, Erol Alkan, Bonde Do Role, Lunice, Riff Raff, Mr Muthafuckin' eXquire, Reptar, Zebra Katz, Bosco Delrey, Baauer, Kito, and Paul Devro. The parties are free and all ages but RSVP is required. All announced lineups are listed below.

Speaking of Lunice, his collaborative project with Hudson Mohawke, TNGHT (pronounced "tonight") released their self titled debut EP this week (7/24) via Warp/Lucky Me. If you've yet to hear it, you can stream the entire thing below.

As for Bonde Do Role, the block party will be their first NYC show quite a while. You may remember that their original singer, Marina Ribatski left the band in 2007 and was replaced by two other singers, Ana Bernardino and Laura Taylor, who joined the band by winning an audition done with MTV Brasil. Ana has since left the band too and they are now a 3-piece fronted only by Laura Taylor. The new incarnation of the band put out their first album in five years, Tropical/Bacanal, last month via Mad Decent. The album was co-produced by Diplo and Filip Nikolic of Poolside (who have two NYC shows this week). The album features guest appearances from Caetano Veloso, Das Racist, Cecile, Rizzle Kicks, and The Death Set (who also has a NYC show coming up). The video for album track "Kilo" and a stream of another track, "Bang," which features Kool AD of Das Racist, are below.

Updated Mad Decent Block Parties info, the flier for the NYC party, video and streams are below.

Kode9 at the American Museum of Natural History in 2010 (more by Zach Dilgard)
Kode9

BBC Radio 1 DJ Benji B is bringing his London dance party Deviation to NYC for the first time on July 4 at Le Poisson Rouge, which is being co-presented by Red Bull Music Academy. The party is a series of one-off events for Deviation in honor of their 5th birthday, which they will celebrate this October. The party will feature a DJ set Hyperdub label head Kode9, and a live set by Lunice. MC Judah will host and Benji B will also DJ, like he does at all Deviation parties. Tickets for the show are on sale now. The flier is below.

Kode9 spoke to FACT last month before playing a set dedicated entirely to Hyperdub artist Burial. They spoke about how the label grew since the release of Burial's Untrue and how they have been expanding into new territory and releasing more albums than ever before (like Laurel Halo's great new album, Quarantine). In regards to DJing, Kode9 said:

I've been DJing for around 20 years. The only thing that has changed really is that I now have more dancefloors with people on them, and this has changed the way I play, and some of the music released on the label.
You can stream a Kode9 Essential Mix from last year below.

TNGHT

Lunice, in addition to his solo material which he will presumably be playing at LPR on Wednesday (7/4), has been working on a collaborative EP with Hudson Mohawke under the name TNGHT (pronounced "tonight"). They'll release an EP on July 24 via Warp and LuckyMe. If you're a fan of either producer's solo material, or any kind of heavy, wonky hip hop beats, TNGHT should be right up your alley. Check out "Bugg'n" from that EP and a teaser mix of the whole EP below.

Lists of all dates, streams, and the flier for the LPR show are below.
