Tanlines have just made a new video for "Palace" from this year's Highlights. Starring Orange is the New Black's Natasha Lyonne and Girls' Alex Karpovsky (who co-directed with Teddy Blanks who did the music for Tiny Furniture), the video takes a ripple theory approach to relationships/breakups, asking "what if?" and watching how things play out. Much of it was filmed at Baby's All Right and it's pretty funny. The video was inspired by the fact that Karpovsky and Tanlines' Eric Emm often get mistaken for each other. Watch it below...
Tanlines have announced a full tour in support of their new album, Highlights, which is out May 19 through True Panther. Before that tour starts they'll play NYC and LA in May including a now sold-out show at Bowery Ballroom on 5/14. They've just added a second NYC show the day before, playing Rough Trade on May 13. Tickets to Rough Trade go on sale Friday (4/10) at noon with an AmEx presale beginning Wednesday (4/8) at noon. All tour dates are listed below.
In other news, Tanlines have shared a second track from Highlights, "Invisible Ways," which eschews synths in favor of straight-up guitar pop. Stream it below. The band have also revamped their website which now kinda resembles an online movie site. Says the band, "We wanted to make a website about our band that you could also watch every season of Frasier on... So we did."

As mentioned, Glasslands will be closing out their time on Kent Ave with a New Year's Eve Party featuring four "special, secret" guests, all of whom have history with the venue. None of those guests have been revealed yet, but the night includes a one-hour open vodka bar early and a midnight champagne toast. Tickets go on sale today at 10 AM.
We asked Glasslands/Popgun's Rami Haykal and Jake Rosenthal for Top 10 lists. Rami gave us his favorite albums of 2014 (many of the artists have played Glasslands over the years); Jake gave us his 10 favorite Glasslands shows ever. You can find out who ended up their lists, below. What was your most memorable show at Glasslands?
Rami and Jake also asked us to let folks know that they are looking to collect any physical memorabilia from Glasslands, be it flyers, posters or whatever. If you have something, please get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The dust has settled at Governors Ball where a whole bunch of artists performed over three days at Randall's Island. (Have you seen our pics?) Among those on the scene was media consultant Janessa Slater (a dead ringer for SNL's Vanessa Bayer) who interviews the likes of Interpol, Tanlines, Frank Turner, and others...as well as random Governors Ball attendees. It's vaguely Ali G and, though most bands seem in on the joke, she definitely gets in some good digs. Watch it over two parts below.
In related news, if you were at Governors Ball and lost anything (like maybe your keys or sunglasses), there's a Lost & Found posted to GovBall's Facebook that you can check.

J&R's now-closed storefront (photo via @gr1fter)
J & R Music and Computer World, a mainstay music and electronics store in Lower Manhattan for 43 years, closed its doors on Wednesday to redesign its space on Park Row.While the brick and mortar storefront is closed, you can still order from J&R's website.
The move was foreshadowed in October, when the store scaled back its footprint between Ann and Beekman Streets. Once occupying eight buildings on those blocks totaling 300,000 square feet, the business was resized to five floors each at 1 Park Row and 15 Park Row. Rachelle Friedman, who with her husband, Joseph, opened J & R across from City Hall in 1971, acknowledged at the time that as part of the changes they were laying off some employees. - [NY Times]
J&R's record store was always a good place to go for Record Store Day items and was always my go-to place for tech stuff, though when I went to buy a headphone adapter there last summer the staff looked at me like I was crazy.
In happier news, Wrecords By Monkey, which makes jewelry, accessories and home products out of old vinyl records is opening a storefront, The Crate, at 304 Boerum St. in Bushwick. In addition to wares, they'll sell $1 used records and new vinyl from local musicians. The store has its Grand Opening on Saturday (4/19) which is Record Store Day:
We will be having an opening party for our new storefront The Crate on Saturday, April 19th from 12 to 9pm in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The party will have live silkscreening on reclaimed vinyl and a display of our newest collection. FREE beer, as well as DJ sets from APSPDR+ and Silent Rider and an exclusive after party from 7 to 9pm featuring DJ Codes. Limited tickets for the after party are available for free and can be picked up at the store starting at noon that day.Flyer for the opening party is below.
In other non-RSD record store news, The WFMU Record Fair returns from May 30 - June 1 at the 69th Regiment Armory in Manhattan. No word on special events and DJs yet. Stay tuned.
And before that we'll have the return of the Brooklyn Flea Record Fair on May 10 which this time is part of the Red Bull Music Academy, with DJ sets from Caroline Polachek, Autre Ne Veut, Tanlines and more.

Tanlines at Webster Hall - 11/29/12 (via Olivia Overall)
NYC synth pop band Tanlines (who made Kurt Braunohler's year-end list headlined their largest hometown show yet on November 29 at Webster Hall with Supreme Cuts (who made FACT's year-end list) and Jim E-Stack. They also just appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night (12/6) to perform "All of Me" off of their 2012 LP, Mixed Emotions. You can check out a video of that performance below.
by Klaus Kinski and Kurt Braunohler
This installment of Klaus Kinski Bugging Funny People He Adores For Their Top 10 Favorite Things of 2012 brings us face to face with the great comedic tornado that is Kurt Braunohler. Kurt entered a cherished spot in my heart chambers many many years ago when I first saw him performing with Kristen Schall somewhere. Since then I've seen him do stand-up and sketch type stuff alone or with Kristen no less than 70 million times and he has never, ever, never ever not brought his A-Game to the stage (a favorite bit, btw). His resume is extensive. Kurt has been seen (or heard) on TV on Bob's Burgers (FOX), Chelsea Lately, Delocated (Adult Swim), John Oliver's NY Stand Up Show, The Heart She Holler (Adult Swim), Comedy Central Presents, Jon Benjamin Has a Van (Comedy Central), Assy McGee (Adult Swim), Human Giant (MTV) and the anti-game show he hosts, BUNK! on IFC. He can also be heard on the radio on This American Life.
As far as stages, Kurt has performed at the HBO US Comedy Arts Festival, Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal and Chicago, New York Comedy Festival (named a "Comic to Watch"), SXSW, Bonaroo, All Tomorrow's Parties, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (IF.Comedy Award nominee), Melbourne Comedy Festival (Barry Award Winner), the HBO Vegas Comedy Festival, the Chicago Improv Festival ("Improv Ensemble of the Year" Award Winner) and he once performed at Radio City Music Hall, but only because his comedy partner (Schall) is pretty famous. And who can forget the awesome web series Penelope: Princess of Pets? Or the fact that he hosted Hot Tub with Kristen Schaal for 7 years? Do you like wunderkinds? Then you will LOVE KURT!
Kurt's list of favorite albums from this year, brought to life with my htmling and youtube embeddings, as well as a list of upcoming Kurt tour dates (no NYC), are yours to enjoy. BELOW.
