Ted Hearne's 'Dorothea' making NY debut at Carnegie Hall

Composer, vocalist, and conductor Ted Hearne has worked with artists like Erykah Badu, J.G. Thirlwell, Timo Andres, Roomful of Teeth, Saul Williams, Gabriel Kahane, Zeena Parkins, M83, and more. His project Dorothea (named after poet Dorothea Lasky, whose work it features) will make its NY premiere this month. It was co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall, and also features vocalist and electronic artist Eliza Bagg. Here’s more about it from them:

Experience the New York premiere of Ted Hearne’s Dorothea, a Carnegie Hall co-commissioned song cycle by an artist “among the most adventurous creative forces in contemporary music today” (The Nation). These direct and poignant songs color the pathos-ridden, darkly funny work of poet Dorothea Lasky with rhapsodic textures, a synth-pop veneer, and charismatic duets with Hearne and acclaimed vocalist and electronic artist Eliza Bagg.

It happens on Friday, October 27 at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall, and tickets are on sale now.

Bagg’s credits include work with Metallica‘s Kirk Hammett, Surf Curse, Nico Muhly, Kevin Morby, San Fermin, Roomful of Teeth, and more. Also performing are Rohan Chander (keyboard and electronics), Solomon Dorsey (bass), Taylor Levine (guitar), Nathan Koci (piano and keyboard), Ron Wiltrout (drums), Diana Wade (viola), and Ashley Bathgate (cello).

Also coming up at Carnegie Hall: Gateway Chamber Players on Sunday, October 22 at Zankel Hall, featuring performances of Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale and Wynton Marsalies’ A Fiddler’s Tale by Tai Murray (violin), Alexander Laing (clarinet), Monica Ellis (bassoon), Billy Hunter (trumpet), Weston Sprott (bass), Patricia Weitzel (bass), Wesley Sumpter (percussion), Damien Sneed (conductor), Phylicia Rashad (narrator), and a to-be-announced special guest.
