Chicago footwork producer DJ Rashad released the excellent TEKLIFE Vol. 1: Welcome to the Chi album earlier this year, and played a Brooklyn show at 285 Kent soon after with Total Freedom and J-Cush. All three of those artists will be returning this weekend for another show at 285 Kent on Sunday (9/23) with Visionist and a "surprise special guest." No word on who the guest is, but the show is the official after party for the Gang Gang Dance and Prince Rama show happening at 285 Kent earlier that night (the third of three GGD shows in NYC this weekend). Admission for this all ages party is $5 before 1 AM and $10 after.
As for LA producer Total Freedom (aka Ashland Mines), who opened on tour for Gang Gang Dance last year, he'll be landing in Brooklyn a bit earlier for a warehouse party at 110 Troutman TONIGHT (9/21) with $hayne and Rizzla. The flier for tonight's show is below.
Meanwhile, J-Cush will also be at 285 Kent on Saturday (9/22) for the previously mentioned Sasha Go Hard show. That bill also includes DJ Manny, Cedaa, and Durban. $5 at the door before 1 AM. That will be Sasha's second NYC show of this week, having played Santos with LE1F last night (9/20). How was that show? Sasha loved it.
If dancing into the wee hours of the night is your thing, those three shows are only two of the many dance options in NYC this weekend. Head below to see more...

Blondes at 110 Troutman - 9/15/12
The day after the secret show at 285 Kent (9/14), which Ariel Pink didn't play, a Weird Magic-presented show went down at 110 Troutman (9/15) in Brooklyn with Blondes, Huerco S., Lamin Fofana, and Slava, plus DJ sets by Jan Woo, Irradiance Cache, //API//, and Terekke (who was a last-minute addition). Pictures from the show are in this post.
Teengirl Fantasy were on the bill too but the party was shut down by cops before they could take the stage. To make up for that, the band tweeted that they'll do a "secret set somewhere in bk this fri try 2 guess." There's a guest this Friday (9/21) at the Glasslands show with Nicholas, Jacques Renault, and Down + Out, but the guest is "from down under," so we can assume that's someone from Australia and not Teengirl Fantasy. There's also a special guest at the 285 Kent show with Laurel Halo, Ital, M. Geddes Gengras and Magic Touch. Any guesses on where it will be?
More pics from Saturday's show are below.
Teengirl Fantasy on a boat last month (more by Leia Jospe)
Teengirl Fantasy recently wrapped up their tour in support of their solid new record, Tracer. Now that they're home in Brooklyn and have some time to kill before Seattle's Decibel Festival (9/29), they're teaming up with old local pals Blondes for a Weird Magic-presented show on Saturday (9/15) at 110 Troutman in Bushwick with Huerco S., Lamin Fofana, and Slava. All five of those artists will be playing live and there will be DJ sets by Jan Woo, Ircache, and //API//. The flier for this show is below.
Meanwhile, Blondes have other upcoming shows including a Night Spa party on Sunday at Body by Brooklyn (275 Park Ave), where they'll DJ along with DJ sets by Jordan Lawlor (guitarist/bassist/keyboardist in M83), Physical Therapy and Jubilee. Tickets for that party are available. Blondes (live) were also added as an opener to the upcoming John Talabot show at Le Poisson Rouge on September 27, where he'll be playing live with Pional, who sings on his album. Tickets for show are still available.
All lists of dates, the flier for Saturday's show, and a stream of Teengirl Fantasy's remix of Blondes' "Wine" are below...

Teengirl Fantasy on Rocks Off cruise - 8/23/12
Dance duo Teengirl Fantasy celebrated their impressive new record, Tracer, aboard the Harbor Lights for a Rocks Off Cruise last Thursday (8/23). They performed with Kelela on vocals and Dutch E Germ on drums. Lemonade opened the show. If you were there, how was it? Did you pick up one of the giant nitrous balloons that a man was selling outside of the party?
More pictures of Teengirl Fantasy's set are below.

Teengirl Fantasy at The Waldorf Hotel - 8/17/12
Teengirl Fantasy released their excellent new album, Tracer, this week, and as mentioned several times, they'll celebrate it with an album release party in NYC TONIGHT (8/23) aboard a Rocks Off Cruise with Lemonade, MikeQ, and Massacooramaan. Tickets for tonight's show are still available, and we're also giving away a few pairs. (You still have time to enter!) Teengirl Fantasy will be performing live with vocals from Kelela (who sings on the album's stunning single, "EFX") and drums from Dutch E Germ. The show will be aboard The Harbor Lights and it boards at 7 PM. The flier for tonight's show is below.
Teengirl Fantasy kicked off their North American tour earlier this month, and were just in NYC for a East River Park show on Monday (8/20), and before that played The Waldorf Hotel in Vancouver (8/17) with Gatekeeper. More pictures from that show, the flier for tonight's show, two song streams from Tracer, and a list of all remaining tour dates are below.
Meanwhile, Lemonade have an extra-busy night ahead of them. After disembarking from The Harbor Lights, the duo will head to Glasslands to DJ at the late night Banananas!! party that also features Shawn Reynaldo (Bersa Discos, XLR8R), Rem Koolhaus (Turbotax), and Ron E Laybaxxx (Ultravibez!). Doors at 11:30 PM.
As mentioned, Teengirl Fantasy's new album, Tracer, was released this week (stream it) -- maybe you saw them at East River Park on Monday -- and the band will play a release party on Thursday (8/23) aboard the Rocks Off Concert Cruise with their True Panther labelmates Lemonade, DJ Mike Q and Massacooramaan along for the ride. Since we last spoke, Kelela, who sings lead vocals on TF's killer single, "EFX", has been added to the bill. Tickets are still available but if you'd like to go for free, we have a few pairs to give away.
While we're on the subject of boats, Big Freedia will shake things up on a Rocks Off Cruise as well on August 29 and, as mentioned previously, LE1f (who recently played Glasslands and PS1 Warm-up) has just been added to the bill. Tickets are still available and we have pairs to give away as well.
Both those shows are aboard The Harbor Lights which departs from East 23rd / FDR. Details on how to enter for both Rocks Off shows are below but please note these shows are 21+. We're also giving away tickets to the Teengirl Fantasy show on Facebook.
Other interesting Rocks Off shows coming up include '90s-era glam rockers Spacehog with Endless Boogie (who play Summerscreen tonight [8/22] with Daniel Higgs and Highlife) aboard The Jewel on Saturday 8/25 (tix); and Riverboat Gamblers, Cobra Skulls, and Fresh Kills aboard The Jewel on October 13 (tix).
As previously mentioned, Lagwagon plays a Fat Wreck Chords Rocks Off Cruise on October 20 with Dead to Me and others (tickets). Bonobo and Gibby Hanes also DJ a Rocks Off cruise on September 21 (tickets).
Contest details and a list of all Teengirl Fantasy dates are below...
East River Park Summerstage in 2010 (more by Andrew St. Clair)
Free Summerstage shows at East River Park are underway and will be going down throughout this week and next. As mentioned, tonight (8/19), UCB Comedy will be presenting The All-Stars of Improv with two acts of improvised comedy from various performers. Tonight's show starts at 7 PM just after the Jamaica 50th Independence Day celebration is wrapping up farther uptown at Central Park Summerstage.
Other shows at East River Park include the previously discussed Red Bull Music Academy co-presented show with Araabmuzik, Flosstradamus, Teengirl Fantasy, and Nick Hook on Monday (8/20), the previously discussed Lyricist Lounge 20th Anniversary show on Wednesday (8/22) with DJ Premier vs. Pete Rock, and the Two Boots 25th Anniversary show on Thursday (8/23) with Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars, Mamarazzi, Odetta Hartman, Himalayas, and The Whiskeyhickon Boys. That show will be hosted by Luis Guzman, will feature poetry from Nuyorican Poet's Café: Caroline Rothstein, Mahogany Browne, and Marshall "Soulful" Jones, and performance art from Lady Circus and the Magic Beans, Free Art Society, and 4Heads Art Collective, plus free pizza.
An updated East River Park schedule is below...

Araabmuzik at Pitchfork Fest 2012 (more by James Richards IV)
Summerstage hooked up with Red Bull Music Academy to add a last minute (and really great) show to their 2012 schedule. On August 20 at East River Park they'll be presenting a free show with Araabmuzik, Flosstradamus, Teengirl Fantasy, and Nick Hook (of Cubic Zirconia). The show goes from 6 to 9 PM.
You may remember that Araabmuzik was supposed to play a Summerstage show back in June but cancelled. Hopefully everything goes as planned for this one. Araabmuzik just lent his production to Azealia Banks for her new song, "Succubi," which you can stream below.
For Teengirl Fantasy, the show is part of a tour they're on now and happens three days before the album release party for their new record, Tracer, aboard a Rocks Off Cruise (8/23) with Lemonade (tickets). Tracer drops next week (8/21), but NPR is streaming it in full a week ahead of its release. As mentioned, four of the ten tracks feature guest vocals (from Kelela, Panda Bear, Laurel Halo, and Romanthanony [the voice of Daft Punk's "One More Time"]) and those are balanced out by some pretty great instrumentals. The whole thing is really cohesive and has more of an album flow than their debut. Check it out for yourself.
All lists of updated dates and the new Azealia Banks song are below...

Angel Haze has a new video for "New York," which you can watch below. Her next NYC show is on August 28 at S.O.B.'s.
Glen Hansard, Lisa Hannigan and John Smith covered The Band's The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" for AV Club Undercover. Check out a video of that below.
Tamaryn have a new song, "I'm Gone," off their upcoming record, Tender New Signs. Listen to that below.
Teengirl Fantasy revealed the track, "EFX" (feat. Kelela), off their upcoming record, Tracer. Check it out below. Their tour hits NYC for a Rocks Off Cruise on August 23.
by Andrew Sacher
As mentioned, Teengirl Fantasy are set to release their new album, Tracer, on August 21 via R&S/True Panther and it features a slew of great guests, Panda Bear, Laurel Halo, Romanthony (the dude who sang Daft Punk's "One More Time"), and more. Teengirl Fantasy shared the first taste of that album with us this week with their new song "End" -- a great progressive dance track with some seriously beautiful piano playing. You can stream that below. They also released their "Motif" single this week, which comes with the b-side "Eternal," a track that also appears on Tracer. So if you pick that up on iTunes, you'll actually get to hear two Tracer tracks this week.
A special edition of the LP will also be pressed with a lenticular cover designed by Kari Altmann (check out a gif of what it looks like below). Only 250 copies of that edition will be pressed "with no repress ever" and is only available for mailorder.
Teengirl Fantasy will kick off a run of European dates this Friday (7/13), and next month they'll tour the US and Canada in support of the new record. That tour includes an album release party in NYC on August 23 with a Rocks Off Cruise with dance pop trio Lemonade and sci-fi synth geeks Gatekeeper. Tickets for the dance party on a boat are on sale now.
A list of all dates, that song stream and gif are below.

Brooklyn's Laurel Halo released her excellent new album, Quarantine, earlier this month and recently finished up a European tour in support of it. Now that she's back home, she's already begun scheduling local shows, including a Quarantine release party at 285 Kent on June 30 with Gatekeeper, Slava, Anenon, Wish, and DJ sets by Brenmar and Teengirl Fantasy, whose new album Laurel guests on. Tickets for that show are available.
Laurel Halo has another Brooklyn show set to take place on July 21 on Public Assembly with a great local bill of Pete Swanson, Noveller, and Burning Star Core (aka C. Spencer Yeh). As usual, New Yorkers will get plenty of more chances to catch Noveller, like at Entwine on Thursday (6/28) and at Secret Project Robot on August 4, but for Pete Swanson (ex-Yellow Swans), he's saying the Public Assembly show is likely his last NYC show for 2012. If you've yet to hear his new album, Man With Potential, you can stream it below.
Speaking of Gatekeeper, who play the 285 Kent show, they'll release their debut full length, Exo, on July 17 via Hippos in Tanks, along with an accompanying video game. Gatekeeper will celebrate Exo with a record release show in Brooklyn at Public Assembly on July 27. Thunder Horse FX will be doing visuals for their set and the bill also includes Total Freedom, James Ferraro, Yen Tech and Arca. Tickets for that show are on sale now. The show flier and Exo cover art/tracklist are below.

Pictureplane at 285 Kent in February (more by Andrew St. Clair)
Pictureplane has some dates coming up in the next few weeks including two in NYC. The first is the LAZERPOP Northside Party at Glasslands on Friday (6/15), where he'll DJ along with DJ sets from Teengirl Fantasy (who have a new album coming out) and Hooray for Earth. Tickets for that show are on sale now. He's also got a show in Brooklyn at on July 4 at Cheap Storage (49 Wyckoff Ave) with DIIV (who have a bunch of other shows coming up as usual), Prince Rama, and Night Manager. All Pictureplane dates are listed below.
It's pretty hard to think about Pictureplane without thinking about Grimes these days, whether it be because Hipster Runoff thinks they're dating, shared bills, remixing each other, or Grimes wearing a Pictureplane shirt. So it seems like an appropriate time to quickly remind that AmEx presale began today at noon for her upcoming shows at Bowery and MHOW. In case you haven't been keeping up, Grimes dropped two collaborations with Blood Diamonds recently: one is the title track off Blood Diamonds' upcoming Phone Sex EP (due out 7/24 via 4AD); and the other also includes Kreayshawn and Tragik, and came out under the name L$D. The song's called "Don't Smoke My Blunt Bitch." Check out videos of both of those below.
In more related news, d'Eon, who Grimes released a split LP with last year, revealed an interview with Stereogum that he's a bit envious of Pictureplane: "I've seen him live a couple of times and he hypnotizes the crowd and 300 18-to-22 year old girls just want to fuck him at all times and I'm really jealous of that kind of charisma." d'Eon released the LP, simply titled LP, earlier this month and it's really great. It's a concept album that deals with real life vs internet life (there's a song called "My iPhone Tracks My Every Move"). All of the songs flow seamlessly into each other and there's a ton of musical reference points, including the art pop of Peter Gabriel, the sexy ambient R&B of How to Dress Well, and the production work you've come to expect from d'Eon. You can stream that entire album below.
Wild Nothing at Pitchfork Fest 2011 (more by Dominick Mastrangelo)
Speaking of Grimes and DIIV, they team up for a free show at River Rocks on Pier 84 on August 9. That show is with Wild Nothing, who just announced a new album, Nocturne, which is due out August 28 via Captured Tracks in the US and a day earlier in the UK via Bella Union. Check out the song, "Shadow," from that album below, along with a list of all Wild Nothing dates, and the album's tracklist.

Teengirl Fantasy's Tracer artwork
Brooklyn duo Teengirl Fantasy have been having a pretty solid year. Back in January, they inked a deal with R&S Records (James Blake, Lone) who are putting out their killer new single, "Motif," on vinyl on June 25 and digitally on July 9. That single comes with the b-side "Eternal" and an Actress remix of "Motif." Check out the video for "Motif" below.
Now, the duo have just announced the release of their sophomore LP, Tracer, which will be out on August 21 via R&S/True Panther. They've roped in some pretty impressive guests for the album, including Panda Bear, Romanthony (aka the voice of Daft Punk's "One More Time"), Laurel Halo, and Kelela. The album won't include "Motif," but it will include "Eternal." The full tracklist is below along with a teaser video and that's the cover art above.
You can catch Teengirl Fantasy at a local show this weekend when they open for fellow Brooklynites/True Panther labelmates Lemonade at the previously discussed Music Hall of Williamsburg show on Saturday (6/2), which also serves as the NYC debut for Elite Gymnastics. Tickets for that show are still available. All TF dates are listed below.
Speaking of Laurel Halo, she put out her own (excellent) new album, Quarantine, in Europe this week and it will see a US release next week. You can stream that album in full below.

Last month, Lemonade released a 12" for Diver single, "Neptune" featuring remixes from Mike Simonetti, Sinjin Hawke, Pasternak, and Jacques Renault. Grab the original HERE and stream all four remixes below.
The MHOW show will be the first NYC show for Minneapolis K-Pop influenced electronic duo Elite Gymnastics, who just wrapped up a tour with Sleigh Bells and Javelin. They've got a bunch of free releases on their tumblr, including the recently released RUIN 3, which compiles covers and remixes of tracks from the impressive RUIN 1 and 2, which have since been combined for a not-free vinyl release on Acephale. RUIN 3 includes remixes by CFCF, LOL Boys, and Physical Therapy and a cover by How to Dress Well, all of which you can download above or stream below. It also includes remixes by Natalie Bootleg and Anime Skyscraper, the latter of which you can stream below.
Their next release, RUIN 4, is available for pre-order at the Acephale webstore as a bundle with poster, buttons, and t-shirt. The CD includes two previously unreleased tracks from the RUIN sessions, all of RUIN 3, and more TBA.
Speaking of Sleigh Bells, they've announced a set of July tour dates that include Making Time 12th Anniversary HYPER-RAGER in Philly. All dates are listed, along with the above-mentioned streams, below...

Full lineup details are below.

Paul from !!!). Tickets for the Brooklyn show are on sale now. The tour flier with all dates is below.
Last month R&S Records announced that Teengirl Fantasy joined their roster, along with Bullion and Airhead, who plays this weekend at the R&S-presented LPR show (2/12) with James Blake and The Chain. That show is one day before James Blake plays the Tibet House benefit with Antony, Stephin Merrit, Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, and others.
All dates and flier below...
Though most of the lineup has yet to be revealed - except for King Krule, Metronomy (who also play MHOW), Purity Ring, Fat Trel (pictured above) and Bleached (more on them in a sec), this year's CMJ Fader Fort RSVP is up and running for their 10/21 and 10/22 shows at 443 w 18th St in Manhattan. More details, including the lineup, TBA soon.
Those dates are the same as the two free BrooklynVegan parties happening at Public Assembly in Brooklyn (no RSVP required), though Fader Fort runs 2-9pm, and the BV parties are from noon-6pm.
Vice's Noisey party with Twin Shadow happens at Santos Party House on the night of 10/19, and as previously mentioned, Twin Shadow are also playing another show which is now announced and is also free and also requires RSVP. The newly-announced show also happens at night, but on Saturday, 10/22, at Le Bain. It's the "Making Time" party and Seekae is also on the bill.
Making Time is FIXED's Philly sister, and FIXED have a CMJ party of their own as well. Their showcase will take place at Public Assembly on 10/19 with Teengirl Fantasy, Still Corners, Lemonade, Chad Valley, Radio People, Warm Ghost, CFCF (DJ Set), and Resident DJs JDH & Dave P (who also DJs Making Time). Tycho was originally scheduled to play this showcase but has since cancelled all of his CMJ shows in favor of a single pre-CMJ show happening at MHOW this Sunday. Tickets for the FIXED show are on sale.

DOWNLOAD: Xeno & Oaklander - Autumn's Edge (MP3)
Xeno & Oaklander are New York's premier minimal wave, and have been doing it 1981 style -- using patch bays and vintage equipment exclusively, no laptops -- for over five years. Despite the duo's neo-luddite approach to making electronic music, Sean McBride and Liz Wendelbo have certainly gotten better at what they're doing, both mastery of their gear and in songwriting.
Sets & Lights, which was released this week on Wierd Records, is the band's third album and easily their best. Arpeggiated synths and sequencers bubble along and Wendelbo and McBride trade vocals... it's like the soundtrack to some gleaming baroque futureworld. You can download "Autumn's Edge" at the top of this post, and be sure to check out the genuinely spooky video to single "The Staircase" further down.
Xeno & Oaklander have a few shows coming up. Tonight (10.12), they celebrate the release of Sets & Lights tonight (10.12) at the weekly Wierd Party at Home Sweet Home. Friday night (10.14) they'll play the afterparty of the first night of the Neon Marshmallow Festival which is happening all weekend at Public Assembly.
Then next Saturday (10/22), Xeno & Oaklander play Altered Zones at the New Museum, which seems to be this year's attempt by Pitchfork at CMJ counterprograming. (Remember #Offline?) In addition to X&O, performers include AraabMuzik, Grimes, Teengirl Fantasy, Trash Talk, Eric Copeland, Prince Rama, Light Asylum, FORMA, and Dive. The show is 21+ and $25 for non-museum members and a portion of the proceeds goes to benefit the 2012 New Museum Triennial, an international exhibition of emerging artists. This actually sounds potentially cool. Flyer for the event is below.
Archy Marshall, who previously operated under the Zoo Kid moniker, now records as King Krule. He'll release a self titled EP under the name on November 8 via True Panther. That's the album art above. You can check out the EP's last track, "The Noose of Jah City," along with the tracklist below.
King Krule has a few international dates coming up including some CMJ shows, which will also act as his US debut. He's scheduled to play the True Panther showcase at Glasslands on October 19 with Tanlines, Trash Talk, Lemonade, Teengirl Fantasy, and Little Red. He'll also play a Fader Fort CMJ Party on October 21 and a secret True Panther warehouse party on October 22. Stay tuned for more details on those.
Trash Talk also have other CMJ shows including a late one at Cake Shop on Thursday, October 20:
LIFE or DEATH PR CMJ SHOWCASELife or Death PR also rep Odd Future and GZA, so that 3am special guest should be interesting. Trash talk ALSO play Santos on Saturday, October 22 with Kylesa and others (details TBA soon).

Sun Araw did play Music Hall of Williamsburg while they were here though. Teengirl Fantasy also DJ'd that show. Tanlines, who will be debuting a new set at PS1, think zucchini is no one's favorite vegetable.

Prince Sun Arawama @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Though they didn't get to play PS1 because of Irene, Sun Araw managed to sneak in a pre-hurricane show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on Friday night with Prince Rama (who have more shows coming up soon), Julianna Barwick, Pterodactyl, and Teengirl Fantasy (DJ set). The night ended with the Sun Araw/Prince Rama collaborative jam they call Prince Sunarawma. Multiple reports say Sun Araw was the highlight of the night. More pictures from the Brooklyn show below....
DOWNLOAD: Lemonade - The Place Where You Belong (MP3)
Teengirl Fantasy, whose July Brooklyn show was moved from the closed Coco66 to 285 Kent, lost two NYC shows to Irene: Warm Up @ PS1 today and a Sunday night appearance at The Museum of Art & Design (both cancelled). Their friends Lemonade were supposed to play the cancelled Out In the Streets Fest Sunday.
All is not lost though, as all signs point to Zebulon still being open tonight (8/27) with Teengirl Fantasy, Callan Klein (Lemonade), and Pasternak (Lemonade) all on the bill.
Exactly two weeks ago Lemonade posted a new song to Soundcloud. Download it above. Stream it, and check out all current Teengirl Fantasy tour dates, below...
cooling down (more by Erez Avissar)
After holding out, MoMA now reports that "sadly, we have to cancel #WarmUp tomorrow because of the hurricane & the subsequent mta closures. Be safe & see you next Saturday, 9/3!", BUT "we are trying to reschedule some of this weekend's performers for an additional #WarmUp on September 10th. We'll keep you posted ;-)" Scheduled performers were Tanlines, Nguzunguzu, Teengirl Fantasy, Sun Araw, and Physical Therapy.
You can still catch Sun Araw at MHOW tonight though (8/26)
Coco66 in October 2010 (more by Andrew St. Clair)
As mentioned, Coco66 was shut down on July 9 so SBTRKT couldn't DJ after his PS1 show. We also recently mentioned that the July 23rd Pictureplane, Teengirl Fantasy, Gatekeeper show originally scheduled at Coco66 has been moved to 285 Kent. That's because Coco66 never reopened after the SBTRKT incident...
It seems that Greenpoint music venue and bar Coco66 was raided by both the NYPD and SLA for operating without a liquor license last weekend. According to reports at Paper and New York Shitty, the authorities showed up at some point Saturday night and arrested the venue's owner David Kelleran and in a scene out of prohibition, all of the booze was destroyed by the SLA when they made the bartenders pour out every last drop of about $20,000 worth of alcohol. What a waste! The bar's problems began in October, 2010 when the NYPD conducted an initial raid and lost its liquor license. Kelleran had been buying booze at retail shops for the bar's events and apparently wants to try to reopen the bar without a liquor license. [Eater]No events are currently scheduled at Coco66.
