Murphy's Law

Murphy's Law frontman Jimmy Gestapo turns 50 this year, and he and the band are celebrating with a hometown show on August 12 at Bowery Electric with Drunken Rampage, Caught In A Trap and Agitator. Happy birthday Jimmy! Tickets are on sale now.

Murphy's Law's only other upcoming show at the moment is opening for Nuclear Assault and Whiplash on September 12 at Gramercy Theatre (tickets). That show is part of Nuclear Assault's "final tour" but they just got announced for Maryland Deathfest 2016 today -- along with a ton of other great bands (Testament, Discharge, Repulsion, Ringworm, Tragedy, and more) -- so it looks like that tour is at least extending until May 2016.

The Agitator are the Bowery Electric show is the one from NYC, not to be confused with the one from Philly whose final show is at This Is Hardcore, which begins on Thursday (7/23). The NYC Agitator also opens for another veteran band, Government Issue, when they play Brooklyn's Acheron this Saturday (7/18). Tickets are still available.

Speaking of This Is Hardcore, the lineup also includes Detroit's Build and Destroy, who are streaming a new EP today. They have members of RZL DZL, Violent Minds and Cold World, and the EP features Ben Cook of No Warning/Fucked Up/Young Guv and Scott Vogel of Terror. (They're both on the song "All Hail The Dopeman".) The EP, titled Map of the Heavens, comes out physically next week via Lockin Out, but you can stream it now below (via Noisey).

Asbury Park's Skate & Surf festival is this weekend (May 16-17) with a pretty great lineup of punk, pop punk, indie rock, post-hardcore and more. There's a few conflicts (fans of both Hot Rod Circuit and Cloud Nothings have a tough choice to make), but it mostly looks like a pretty convenient schedule. Check out the full thing (including a few recently-added bands) below.

Tickets for the festival are still available, and we're giving a pair away! Enter the contest below...

Souvenirs

Last year, California rock band Souvenirs released their debut album, You, Fear and Me, and this week they're giving it a re-release with bonus tracks via Other People Records (not to be confused with Nicolas Jaar's label of the same name). One of the bonus tracks, "Bye For Now," premieres in this post. It's a similar type of atmospheric, punk-rooted indie rock to the stuff we've gotten from Title Fight, Superheaven and Turnover lately, and if you like those bands you might dig this too. Listen below.

Souvenirs have an upcoming tour with The Story So Far, Four Year Strong and Terror, which hits NJ's Skate & Surf festival, and NYC on May 21 at Webster Hall. Tickets for the Webster show are on sale now.

All dates are listed, with the new song stream, below...

Crumbsuckers

Like New York City contemporaries such as Agnostic Front and the Cro-Mags, the Crumbsuckers were one of the original purveyors of 1980s crossover: the bridging of metal and hardcore that temporarily united the two divergent tribes of metalheads and punks into one bloody unified mosh pit. Getting their start in 1983, the band were soon an integral part of New York's Lower East Side-based hardcore scene, cutting their teeth at the legendary dive A7 before moving on to CBGB's famed Sunday matinees, as they and the movement gained strength. [Allmusic]
Long Island crossover thrash vets The Crumbsuckers last reunited for their 20th anniversary in 2006, and they'll be regrouping yet again for this year's Black N' Blue Bowl, the annual NYC hardcore fest happening May 16 and 17 at Webster Hall.

Since we last spoke, more bands were added to BNB Bowl, including Candiria, Madball, Dave Smalley (performing Dag Nasty, Down By Law and All Songs), The Rival Mob, Fury of Five, Devil In Me and Booze & Glory. They join other previously-announced bands such as Sick Of It All (who also play NateFest). Ticket info still TBA. Updated lineup below.

In related news, Richmond, VA's United Blood Fest was announced for March 27 & 28, the weekend after NateFest. It happens at The Canal Club with Judge and Breakdown (who both played BNB Bowl 2013), plus Code Orange, Cold World, Terror, Rotting Out, Give, God's Hate, Heavy Chains and more. Full lineup below. Breakdown's only other announced show at the moment is opening night 1 of No Warning's reunion shows in NJ.

Still more TBA too, but you can check out the full initial lineup below. Tickets go on sale at 8 PM today (12/18).

Negative Approach at Fun Fun Fun Fest (more by BBG)
Negative Approach

This is Hardcore returns to Philadelphia, PA for four days in August at Union Transfer (on 8/9) and Electric Factory (8/10 - 8/12). Both shows will have no barricades for you headwalkers/divers and in the case of Electric Factory, the venue will actually construct a stage in front of their usual stage (!) to get around the existing barricade. Now thats dedication/brutality.

As for the lineup, as usual the cast of hooligans gracing the stages of TIHC are a cast of notables, including Cro-Mags, Negative Approach, Gorilla Biscuits, Breakdown, Blacklisted, Killing Time, Nails, Ringworm, Gehenna and many many more. Full lineup is below and tickets go on sale on May 17th at noon.

Power Trip is part of said lineup, and reminder, the band will hit Acheron on May 15th as part of a string of East Coast dates. All tour dates are below.

Church of Misery at Inferno Festival (more by BBG)
Church of Misery

Scion Rock Fest have announced their first round of 2012 bands, including some very interesting and out-of-the-box choices. Among the announced so far include the impressive Repulsion, All Pigs Must Die, Merzbow, Sleep (who just played Roadburn), Church of Misery (them too, and they play NYC soon), and Oxbow, but the lineup also includes names like Terror, Psychic TV, and Cerebral Ballzy and more... bands that seem a bit out of the ordinary for a traditionally all-metal festival entering its fourth year. The show goes down on June 2nd across four venues in Tampa FL. As always, the show is free (with RSVP that opens on 4/20 at noon).

UPDATE: Full lineup has been released, check out the flyer and lineup below.

Agnostic Front @ Webster Hall
Agnostic Front

While I was checking out the brutality at Maryland Deathfest 2011 back in May (pictures from day 1 HERE, day 2 HERE, day 3 HERE, and day 4 HERE), NYC was keeping it brutal in their own way, with the 2011 edition of the Black & Blue Bowl. The show featured a headlining set from a reunited Gorilla Biscuits. We already posted those pictures, but there was also sets by Agnostic Front, Sick of It All, Terror, Absolution, Antidote, Maximum Penalty, Backtrack, Down To Nothing, No Turning Back, Take Offense, and Bottom Out. It was a serious bill for the NYHC faithful. More pictures and video from the mayhem lie below.

In semi-related news, Cro-Mags have a show coming up with Fucked Up at House of Vans. Cro-Mags played Bowery Ballroom on July 1st.

In more related news, Roger Miret (of Agnostic Front) will hit the road for a string of dates with Roger Miret and The Disasters. The week long trek is in support of the new LP Gotta Get Up Now and will include a stop at Trash Bar on August 19th. Full tour schedule is below.

Tickets are on sale now for Murphy's Law's annual Rocks Off Concert Cruise which takes place on August 10th. Hopefully they have more luck this year.

Shai Halud plays Party Xpo in Brooklyn TONIGHT (7/9) with Zombie Fight and many others.

Roger Miret dates, and videos and more pics from Black & Blue Bowl, below...

Gaza at Dudefest (photo by Metal Jeff)
Gaza

Ask anyone who caught them at Dudefest and they'll tell you, Gaza dropped-jaws and killed the crowd at the Indianapolis metal/hardcore festival, inciting on-stage moshpits and even dives into those moshpits. Things got a little looney.

Gaza also released the sinister He Is Never Coming Back in the tail end of last year via Black Market Activities. It was one of my favorite releases of 2009.

That all said, BrooklynVegan and 1000 Knives are proud to present the discordant and destructive Gaza at Cake Shop with the great Tiger Flowers on November 21st. The show is the final day of their tour following a string of dates with The Acacia Strain, The Red Chord, Terror, and The Contortionist.

Full Gaza dates and some video is below.

Mother of Mercy in Warren, NJ
Mother of Mercy

Agnostic Front will Victim In Pain it up once again, this time at Santos Party House on Oct 16th with a much younger cast of characters: Mother of Mercy, New Lows, and more. Tickets are on sale. The show looks to be part of a larger tour for the trio, though only four dates have surfaced so far.

Mother of Mercy are currently on the way to Chaos in Tejas, the monlithic hardcore/indie/metal/punk/all-of-the-above festival in Austin THIS WEEKEND (May 28th). The band recently played Warren American Legion in Warren, NJ alongside Foundation, Backtrack and Swamp Thing; pictures of that show adorn this post.

Foundation and Backtrack recently announced that will be back in our area when they team up with Terror for a string of dates that include Long Island and Clifton, NJ on July 2nd and 3rd respectively.

All Terror and Agnostic Front dates, and more pictures from the Warren American Legion House, below...

Happy Holidays! I take on more than I can handle. That results in a lot of unposted content. In the name of catching up, while also taking it easy during this final week of the year, here's some of that lost material.

10 for 10

The 10 for 10 tour featured somewhat different bands on different legs of the tour, but NYC featured the following in set order: War of Ages, The Ghost Inside, Crime In Stereo, Trapped Under Ice, Death Before Dishonor, This Is Hell, Vision, Terror, Poison The Well, and Madball.

Pictures from the July 10th show continued below...
