DOWNLOAD: Leverage Models - "Cooperative Extensions" (MP3)
Leverage Models is the new collective led by Shannon Fields, the head producer and multi-instrumentalist of Stars Like Fleas. He's got a few singles out, including the most recently released "Cooperative Extensions," which dropped this past July and can be downloaded above or streamed below. It's less jazzy post-rock than Stars Like Fleas, and more on the polyrhythmic pop side recalling the arty new wave of Talking Heads or early Duran Duran.
The band just played a Brooklyn show last week (1/31) at Cameo, and you'll get another chance to catch them on February 11 at Glasslands with Octo Octa (who also plays with Maria Minerva in March), Test House, and Certain Creatures. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Though tickets for the previously discussed Turing Machine/Violent Bullshit show at Union Pool on 5/18 have flown out the door (it is now sold out), at least you didn't entirely miss the train. Williamsburg, Brooklyn venue Union Pool have announced both bands, along with names like Eric Copeland (Black Dice), Rain Machine (Kyp Malone of TV on The Radio), Bubbles, TEEN, Ryan Sawyer / Nate Wooley / C. Spencer Yeh, LONE WOLF and Test House, as the first batch of artists in their Summer Thunder Series, their annual set of FREE shows taking place on the patio on every other Saturday afternoon from May 26th until August 18th. Summer Thunder 2012 is being curated by the venue along with Ryan Sawyer (Lone Wolf/Tall Firs/Glass Rock) and Summer Thunder creator and artist J. Penry, with each week promising free music, "drink specials, free koozies, T-shirts for purchase by J. Penry, and lots of Jameson". That last part just sold me.
Exact dates are on the poster above. Exact lineups TBA soon.

Fixtures on the Brooklyn scene for a while now, sisterly duo Zambri released their debut, House of Baasa, about a month ago o Kanine records. Dark and sweaty, it's a bit like a Jungle Themed Siouxsie Sioux with a number of standout tracks -- "Carry," "ICBYS," and "Hundred Hearts" which you can watch the video for below. You can stream the whole album below as well.
Zambri have a few other dates coming up -- including the Kanine Records Northside showcase at Knitting Factory on June 14 with Eternal Summers, Bleeding Rainbow, Beach Day and some TBDs -- which are all listed below.
Zambri, with their seriously awesome drummer and complicated microphones, play tonight (5/10) at Public Assembly as part of a pretty good bill. Also playing are Computer Magic (aka Brooklynite Danielle Johnson) who makes appealing retro-y synthpop. Her debut EP, Orion, is out now and you can stream it below.
Openers Test House just released their debut EP, Bitemarks, a couple weeks ago. The duo make glitchy dance music and you can stream the EP below. They have a pedigree too: Peter Schuette used to be in Silk Flowers and Psychobuildings, and James Elliot spent time in Bear in Heaven and School of Seven Bells.
DJing between sets is Pains of Being Pure at Heart drummer Kurt Feldman who also fronts '80s romo-loving Ice Choir. Feldman remixed Zambri's "ICBYS" which is downloadable above, and they just dropped the first taste of Ice Choir's debut album, Afar, which is out in July on Underwater Peoples. You can download that above too.
Streams and Zambri tour dates are below.
