Alexis Taylor @ Manhattan Inn earlier in May (via @brooklynvegan instagram)
Alexis Taylor's new solo album, Await Barbarians, is out in a couple weeks (June 17) on Domino and he's got a new video for mellow single "Without a Crutch" which you can watch, along with the previously released "Elvis Has Left the Building," below.
You may have seen Alexis perform those and about half a dozen other new tracks when he played a very intimate solo show at Manhattan Inn earlier this month, right after the William Onyeabor tributes at BAM, where he was backed by Jonny Lam and current Hot Chip (and New Young Pony Club) drummer Sarah Jones. It was a nice set that also included a cover of Smokey Robinson's "Tracks of My Tears" plus Hot Chip songs "Look at Where We Are" and "Made in the Dark." If you missed that, Alexis will be back in NYC to play a solo show at Joe's Pub on July 14. Tickets are on sale now.
That seems to be the only North American date for Alexis currently. He will, however, be doing some DJ gigs over here around the same time, including one in NYC at Williamsburg club Verboten on July 10 with additional sets by Klangkarrussell, Headband + Hooligan, and Alex English. As to which members of the band will be doing the DJing, that's unclear but tickets are on sale now. Taylor will also DJ San Francisco's Mezzanine on July 11 with the Juan Maclean and Sleazemore.
And while we're on the subject, The 2 Bears, which is HC's Joe Goddard and mate Raf Rundell, will release their second album The Night Is Young in September. The first single, "Angel (Touch Me)," is out now and you can stream it below. You can also watch the Dan Henshaw-directed video which pays humourous homage to Wim Wenders' Wings Of Desire.

Hot Chip at Prospect Park in 2012 (more by Toby Tenenbaum)
Astralwerks Records was founded in NYC in 1993 as a primarily electronic arm of Caronline Records. When they hit it big in the late '90s with Chemical Brothers, Air and Fatboy Slim band, Astralwerks became one of the biggest indie labels in the country. They've since been picked up by Universal Music Group and have expanded into other genres but they do maintain a focus on the electronic. To celebrate their 20th anniversary this year, Astralwerks will release a limited edition box set, Astralwerks: Music in 20/20, on Record Store Day (4/20). The compilation features previously unreleased or rare tracks from Hot Chip, Air, Diamond Rings, Kraftwerk, Kings of Convenience, Doves and others plus previously released tracks by The Chemical Brothers, The Beta Band, Fatboy Slim, Cassius, Basement Jaxx, Royksopp, a Four Tet remix of Sia and more. Check out the full tracklist and trailer video for the compilation below.
Hot Chip are on the festival circuit this spring/summer -- including Coachella, Primavera Sound, Osheaga, Lollapalooza, and others -- and as mentioned, they're stopping in NYC for a show at Roseland Ballroom on Tuesday (4/9) before Coachella. Tuesday's show is with The Crystal Ark (DJ set) and Tanlines. Tickets for that are still available. All dates are listed below.
Meanwhile, TONIGHT (4/8) at Le Poisson Rouge, Hot Chip side project The 2 Bears (aka Joe Goddard and Raf Rundell), who are also playing and touring around Coachella, play a a show with Ladies Night. Tickets for tonight's show are still available. All dates are listed below.
Tanlines, who open the Roseland show, are also playing Coachella and have other dates coming up including shows with Passion Pit and Vampire Weekend, but not Passion Pit's NJ show with Phoenix or Vampire Weekend's Roseland show.
All Tanlines, Hot Chip, and 2 Bears dates are listed, along with the Astralwerks album tracklist and trailer, below...
Hot Chip had a pretty busy 2012 with the release of their own great album, In Our Heads, plus the debut albums by side projects New Build (whose lineup includes Felix Martin and Al Doyle) and The 2 Bears (whose lineup includes Joe Goddard, who also has solo material out).
The 2 Bears (a duo, whose lineup is completed by Raf Rundell) finds Goddard in much more straight-up good times party mode than Hot Chip's relatively artier vibe. Their debut album, Be Strong, is a lot of fun and you can stream it below. The 2 Bears don't have much of an itinerary for 2013 but they do have a one-off in NYC scheduled to take place April 8 at Le Poisson Rouge, one day before Hot Chip play their one-off at Roseland Ballroom. Tickets for the LPR show are on sale now. Tickets for Hot Chip's Roseland show are still available too.
Joe Goddard will also be in NYC even sooner to DJ Cameo Gallery on February 9. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
Flyer for the Cameo show and a stream of The 2 Bears album plus music videos are below...
Jeff of Passion Pit in Austin in September (more by Tim Griffin)
Passion Pit do a great job of combining pop songwriting and forward-thinking electronic music trends, so when we reached out to their members for a list of their favorite albums of the year, it makes sense that the list has a pretty even split of both of things. The list comes from bassist Jeff Apruzzese and includes the knob-turning greatness of Todd Terje, Disclosure, TNGHT, Scuba, and more, combined with the pop sensibilities of Alt-J, Tame Impala, Alabama Shakes, and more. You can check out Jeff's whole list below.
A list of all Passion Pit dates and Jeff's 2012 Top 10 are below.
UK music magazine Uncut put out their list of the top 75 albums of 2012. The top ten leans pretty heavy on long-running '60s/'70s survivors who put out new albums this year, but plenty of the list-topping regulars from newer acts are on there too, along with a few interesting surprises (Sun Araw, M Geddes Gengras & the Congos!). You can check out the full list below.
Q Magazine put out their Top 50 albums of 2012 list, choosing to do so in no particular order this year, making it more a pile than a list. Check out Q's picks in alphabetical order below.

Hot Chip have signed to Domino Records who will put out the band's fifth album, In Our Heads, which will be out June 12 in all the popular formats. It will be the band's first since 2010's One Life Stand.
Hot Chip's only American show scheduled at this point is the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago on July 13, but a NYC show before or after seems likely. No music yet (or album art) at this early juncture, but the tracklisting is at the bottom of this post.
2012 is a busy year for Hot Chip, in and out of the group. Joe Goddard is one half of The 2 Bears whose debut album, Be Strong, came out back in January and is one of the more fun, danceable albums of the year so far. (You can stream it on Spotify.) Felix Martin and Al Doyle are two-thirds of New Build whose debut (very Roxy Music) is out April 3 via the band's own Lunark Recordings. New Build will be at SXSW and play Mercury Lounge March 13 and 14.
Tour dates and audio streams for New Build are below, plus 2 Bears videos and the In Our Heads tracklist...
