DJ Shadow at Irving Plaza in September (more by Mathieu Bredeau)
DJ Shadow

While his tour with Cut Chemist is over, legendary producer DJ Shadow remains busy. His new Liquid Amber imprint just put out Bleep Bloop's new EP 10 Watt Lazer, the label's first release from anyone other than its founder. Bleep Bloop works along the same hip-hop grounded blueprint as Shadow, but his tracks tend to gaze more into the future than the past for inspiration. Says Shadow himself:

This is the first Liquid Amber release by an artist other than myself, so it's an exciting and challenging phase of the process. I'm learning something new daily, and that's rewarding. With Aaron's music, it's not hard for me to be motivated to work on his behalf. He's one of the artists pushing boundaries, and that's a cause I'll always get behind.
Check out the entire spacey Bleep Bloop EP below.

In other news, DJ Shadow is one of the artists featured on the limited edition 59-song re-release of the soundtrack to this year's Grand Theft Auto V. That features the game's original score -- by Tangerine Dream, Woody Jackson, The Alchemist + Oh No --  as mixed by DJ Shadow, as well cuts from the soundtrack featuring original music from Flying Lotus, A$AP Rocky, Tyler, The Creator, Twin Shadow, Wavves, Yeasayer, as well as classics from the various radio stations you can listen to in the game.

GTAV

The soundtrack is out now in both three-disc CD and a massive six-LP vinyl sets in collaboration with Nas' Mass Appeal Records.

And lastly, DJ Shadow's "Building Steam With A Grain Of Salt," from his classic 1996 album Endtroducing, is featured in a new commercial for the new Chevy Malibu, with a pitchman's voiceover replacing the myth-making spoken word of the original track (sad?). Check out the commercial and Bleep Bloop's EP below...

RTJRTJ

Killer Mike and El-P's new Run the Jewels album RTJ2 comes out next week (10/28) via Mass Appeal, but apparently it leaked ahead of time. El-P and Killer Mike found about it, but instead of being bad sports, they each tweeted links to a free download of the album themselves. You can grab it HERE.

The duo are also working with Zola Jesus, Just Blaze, Baauer, Portishead's Geoff Barrow, the Alchemist, Boots, Dan the Automator and more to make a cat-themed remix album called Meow the Jewels. If you're a cat, you can audition to be part of it.

Flying Lotus

Grand Theft Auto V and its soundtrack are out now, and as discussed, it's being celebrated with some live music events in NYC as part of the ongoing New York Film Festival.

The first of the live music events happens tonight (9/30) at Church of Saint Paul the Apostle (405 W 59th St) with four composers who worked on the game's score: ambient legends Tangerine Dream, hip hop producers The Alchemist and Oh No (who worked on the new Danny Brown album), and composer Woody Jackson (Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire).

After that, there's an afterparty at Le Poisson Rouge at 11 PM with DJ sets from Flying Lotus and BBC's Gilles Peterson, who both host radio shows in the game.

The show was initially $150 for the concert and afterparty, but has since been reduced in price. There's now a $40 ticket option that gets you into the concert and the afterparty, and $20 tickets for just the concert, or $20 advance tickets ($25 day of the show) for just the afterparty. We're also giving away tickets to both the concert and the afterparty. Details on how to enter to win are below.

Flying Lotus recently made his GTAV station, which includes music from Outkast, Tyler the Creator, Machinedrum, Tundercat, Aphex Twin, and more, available to stream in full (via Rolling Stone). You can listen to that, along with its tracklist and the contest details, below...

GTAV

The New York Film Festival starts today (9/27) and Grand Theft Auto V and its ridiculous soundtrack are out now, and in honor of that the game will participate in this year's Convergence Program.

Most excitingly, there will be a concert on September 30 at Church of Saint Paul the Apostle (405 W 59th St) with the game's score composers including ambient legends Tangerine Dream, two hip hop producers The Alchemist and Oh No, and composer Woody Jackson (who also scored Red Dead Redemption and LA Noire). As they perform, a projector screen will show images of GTAV's fictional setting, Blaine County. Show starts at 9 PM. Tickets for the concert go on sale today (9/27) at 10 AM, and there's also an option than gains you entry to the afterparty...

After the concert, there will be an official afterparty at Le Poisson Rouge, which features DJ sets from Flying Lotus (who hosts FlyLo FM in GTAV) and BBC's Gilles Peterson (who hosts Worldwide FM). It's a late show, happening after the Typhoon show at LPR that takes place the same night.

The next day (10/1), Tangerine Dream, The Alchemist, Oh No, and Woody Jackson will also discuss the game's music at a panel taking place at Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center (144 West 65th Street) at 8 PM. In addition to the game's composers, it also features Rockstar Games music supervisor Ivan Pavlovich and will be moderated by Pitchfork founder Ryan Schreiber. This panel's totally free.

There's another GTAV panel happening on September 29 at Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center at 3:30 PM with moderator Adam Sessler and select members of Rockstar Games discussing the making of GTAV. Tickets for this panel go on sale today (9/27) at 10 AM.

Read more about what's playing the Film Fest HERE.

Wavves at Bonnaroo 2011 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Wavves

Earlier today, we mentioned that a bunch of punkish bands were added to Jay Z's Made In America festival, which goes down at Philly's Benjamin Franklin Parkway (8/31-9/1) this weekend. Since posting, one more band that fits that description has been added: Wavves. They play the Liberty Stage at 2:30 PM on Sunday. Full schedule here and tickets here.

Wavves will be in NYC when their tour with King Tuff and Jacuzzi Boys hits Irving Plaza on October 3. Tickets for that show are still available.

Meanwhile, Nathan Williams and Stephen Pope of Wavves were also revealed (in an interview with Rolling Stone) as two of the radio hosts on the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V game that Rockstar Games is putting out on September 17. You can watch the trailer for GTA5 that came out today that features a song by Chain Gang of 1974 (Remember them? They're still a band.) below.

The game also includes a station hosted by Flying Lotus which will play much of his own music, along with tracks from Tyler the Creator, Outkast, Aphex Twin, Machinedrum, DJ Rashad, Thundercat, Clams Casino, Dabrye, Kingdom and Shadow Child.

Other hosts include Pam Grier, Bootsy Collins, Kenny Loggins and dancing outlaw Jesco White (!). And additionally, the game's score is being done by Tangerine Dream, The Alchemist, Oh No, and Woody Jackson (Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire).

Updated Wavves dates are listed, along with a video, below...

House Shoes

Two hip hop producers, House Shoes and Dabrye, are teaming up for some shows together this month. They've got two shows in California this week, and then they'll come to NYC for a Bandshell-presented show on February 28 at Le Poisson Rouge with Lamin Fofana. Tickets for the LPR show are on sale now. At the moment, those are the only three shows announced for the two producers, and you can see them all in list format below.

House Shoes has been a mainstay as a producer in the Detroit hip hop scene for years, but it wasn't until 2012 that he released his "official" debut album, Let It Go, which features guest spots from Danny Brown, Roc Marciano, The Alchemist, Oh No, Guilty Simpson, Black Milk, Chali 2na and more. Like collaborator The Alchemist's 2012 album, Russian Roulette, Let It Go is a great showcase of the current indie rap scene, but it also works as its own cohesive album of retro-futuristic boom bap. You can stream the entire album and watch the video for the song with Danny Brown, "Sweet," below.

Dabrye hasn't released anything too recently, but like House Shoes, his albums feature a variety of great indie rappers (his 2006 release, Two/Three featured DOOM, Vast Aire, Beans, Guilty Simpson, and others), and his material has been taken on by some pretty great remixers like Kode9 and Flying Lotus. A stream of the instrumental version of his Two/Three LP is below.

All streams and a list of all dates below...

Rare ChandeliersRare Chandeliers

Action Bronson and The Alchemist released their great free mixtape, Rare Chandaliers, this past November and now they've revealed an extended version with four bonus tracks. You can download the whole thing for free HERE.

As mentioned, Action Bronson plays a hometown show in NYC at Brooklyn Bowl on Wednesday (12/26) with A$AP Ferg and Meyhem Lauren, who also recently released a mixtape. Tickets for that show are still available.

Action Bronson

Action Bronson has released his new mixtape Rare Chandeliers, a collaborative effort between him and The Alchemist, for download for free via Noisey. Download your copy above.

As mentioned, the MC will bless Best Buy on November 28th with Cypress Hill, part of a tour rescheduled in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Tickets are still available. I'm guessing Action Bronson's new vaporizer will be put to good use that night.

Action Bronson - Rare Chandeliers
Rare Chandeliers

Action Bronson was supposed to play Best Buy Theater last week (10/30) with Cypress Hill, but as mentioned, that show was postponed due to Hurricane Sandy. The new date for that show has been set and will happen on November 28 at Best Buy Theater. Tickets are still available if you don't already have one.

When we discussed that show being postponed, we also mentioned that Action Bronson was going to play a free show which was set to happen today (11/7) with Harry Fraud & friends and DJ Getlive! at Public Assembly. That show was also just rescheduled and will instead also happen on November 28 at Public Assembly, but probably due to the Cypress Hill show, Action Bronson is no longer listed on the event page or the show flyer. RSVP is still open and the flyer is below.

In related news, Action Bronson will release a free album titled Rare Chandeliers on November 15. The album was produced entirely by The Alchemist, whose album, Russian Roulette, Bronson appeared on. That album will feature the track "The Symbol," which you can watch the video for with the full album tracklist below. That's the fancy cover art above.

Video, cover art, tracklist, show flyer, and a list of all dates below...

Main Attrakionz at BV-SXSW 2012 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Main Attrakionz

Earlier this month, we mentioned that iPhone/Android app Mobli was throwing a CMJ party with Heems, Sasha Go Hard, Kitty Pryde, Weekend Money, SAFE, The Underachievers, and Party Supplies. That party was supposed to happen today at Delinquency but that venue has since been shut down so the whole lineup (minus The Underachievers and Party Supplies) is merging with the Young One Records showcase, which happens tonight (10/17) at 285 Kent. That showcase, in addition to including the names mentioned above, will have Main Attrakionz, Kool AD, Deniro Farrar, Supreme Cuts, Cities Aviv, Bryant Dope, Ryan Hemsworth, and CBG. SAFE and Ryan Hemsworth are DJing between sets, the rest of the acts are playing live. The show flier and set times are below.

That 285 Kent show is a pretty stacked bill for hip hop, and if you're into stacked hip hop shows like that one, you'll also probably want to check out the Mass Appeal party at Gramercy on Friday (10/19) with Asher Roth, Prodigy (of Mobb Deep), The Alchemist, Large Professor, Mr. Muthafuckin' exquire, Roc Marciano, Boldy James, Ninja Sonik, Bodega Bamz, Alexander Spit, Angel Haze and Timeless Youth. That one's free with RSVP to RSVP@massappeal.com but entry is based on capacity. The flier for this show is below.

As mentioned, Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire also plays SOB's on Thursday (10/18) and an MTV Studio at Webster Hall the same day. That studio show is with Big K.R.I.T. and LE1F, and when we first mentioned it, a "special guest" was billed who has since been revealed as Killer Mike. Tickets for that one are still available.

That MTV show is an early show (5:30 doors) and after that there's a late show with Chuck Inglish (of The Cool Kids), Ninjasonik, ASAP TyY, Blvckalfred, Vault Boys, MopTop, Chase N Cashe, GDP, Vyle, and Curtains. Tickets for that one are still available.

Cities Aviv, in addition to the Young One show, has other CMJ shows, including the Flowerbooking CMJ showcase at Knitting Factory on Friday (10/19) with Unicorn Kid, Ki:Theory, Devin, Ghost Wave, and Talk Normal (tickets) and the Bond Music Group/PopGun show at Cameo Gallery on Friday (10/19) (late show) with Steven A. Clark, Lushlife, Dark Sister, and Pegasus Warning (tickets).

He also plays the free BrooklynVegan day party at Public Assembly on Saturday (10/20) with The Orwells, Eternal Summers, and the rest of the lineup coming soon!

While we're talking about good hip hop shows during CMJ, don't forget the Converse Rubber Tracks/Fool's Gold 5th anniversary show at Music Hall of WIlliamsburg on Saturday (10/20) with Ghostface Killah, A-Trak, Flosstradamus, Donnis, Nick Catchdubs, World's Fair, Troy Ave, and special guests. That one's totally free, first come, first served.

Showcase flier and set times for the Young One/Mobli show are below.

Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire
Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire

Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire is set to release the Power & Passion EP on November 6 via his new home at Universal Republic Records. That EP includes lead single, "Telephuck," which features El-P (who eXquire recently toured with) on the beat and Gucci Mane with a guest verse. You can stream that track below. The EP also features production by SpaceGhostPurrp, Harry Fraud, and others.

Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire will be playing some local shows during CMJ including the previously discussed Leaders of the New Cool CMJ party at SOB's on October 18 with Casey Veggies and others (tickets). That same day (10/18), he'll play an MTV-presented show at The Studio at Webster Hall with Big K.R.I.T., LE1F, and special guests. And on October 20, he'll play the Tumblr CMJ showcase at Knitting Factory with Doldrums, Troy Ave, Prince Rama, and The So So Glos. Tickets for the Studio show and the Knitting Factory show are on sale now.

eXquire also plays a free Mass Appeal party at Gramercy Theater on October 19 with The Alchemist, Prodigy, Roc Marciano, Ninjasonik, Bodega Bamz, Angel Haze, and more. You can get in with your CMJ badge or if you don't have one, just RSVP to rsvp@massappeal.com. The flier for this show is below.

As mentioned, Big K.R.I.T. also plays the Cinematic Music Group, Ecko Unltd & XXL Mag showcase at SOB's (10/18), the night of the Studio show, with Joey Bada$$ & Pro Era, Smoke DZA, Fat Trel, and others. K.R.I.T. also produced and is featured on the new Big SANT song, "Say That Shit," which you can stream below.

All lists of dates and song streams are below.

Action Bronson and a bag of weed at MHOW in August (more by Ryan Muir)
Action Bronson

Remember how we just said that Action Bronson continues to give NYC many chances to see him? Well he's keeping that up. After just playing a show with RL Grime last Friday (9/28), Bronson announced that he'll play a free Scion A/V-presented show in the front room of Public Assembly on October 10 with Jonwayne, Party Supplies, and DJ Getlive. The show is free but RSVP is strictly required. The flier for this show is below. Not very surprisingly, it's also been announced that his Highline Ballroom show (10/30) with Cypress Hill is part of a larger tour the two acts will go on together this fall. All dates are listed below.

Action Bronson associate Meyhem Lauren (who he shared a bill with at MHOW in August) has an upcoming Public Assembly show (10/25) too. His is with Lakutis, Big Baby Ghandi, Spit Gemz, Timeless Truth, Gee Dubs, Eff Yoo, and DJ Uneek. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Tanya Morgan, who was also on that MHOW show, have a show at Public Assembly (10/23) too, two days before the Meyhem Lauren show. That one's a co-headlining show with rapper/producer Oddisee, who Tanya Morgan has played with before, and who released the album, People Hear What They See over the summer (stream it at SPIN). Support on that show comes from The Doppelgangaz, Mr. Mag, and Gotham Green, along with a DJ set by DJ Tara and it's being hosted by Dee Phunk. Tickets are on sale now. It takes place just after CMJ, which Oddisee is scheduled to play, though no shows have been announced yet as of this post. All Oddisee dates are listed below.

That famed MHOW show was rounded out by Flatbush Zombies, who were joined by A$AP Rocky and in turn joined him at his Roseland Ballroom show last week (9/27). Flatbush Zombies don't have a Public Assembly show coming up, but they do have a Noisey: Acid Alumni CMJ show happening at Santos Party House on October 17 with Children of the Night, Haleek Maul, Bodega Bamz (who also joined Rocky at that Roseland show), and The Underachievers (who will be taking part in Flying Lotus' NYC takeover). That show is free with RSVP. The flier is below.

Roc Marciano - Reloaded
Reloaded

In more related news, Action Bronson/Meyhem Lauren associate Roc Marciano will release his new album, Reloaded, on November 13 via Decon. The album was mostly self-produced, but also includes a few tracks produced by The Alchemist (whose album featured Roc, plus Action Bronson, Meyhem Lauren, and many others), plus tracks produced by Q-Tip, Ray West, The Arch Druids, and guest spots from Ka and Knowledge Pirate. That's the cover art above (via HipHopDX), and you can check out tracklist and stream the tracks "76" and "I Shot The King" (from the deluxe edition) below. He's also in the process of shooting a video for "76."

All lists of dates, song streams and more are below.

Russian Roulette

Though the most talked about hip hop release of this week is probably Nas' Life Is Good, don't let that overshadow The Alchemist's hip hop song cycle Russian Roulette. The album is thirty tracks long, all of which are under three minutes, and it's scattered with impressive guest spots from Danny Brown, Schoolboy Q, Action Bronson, Guilty Simpson, Fashawn, Meyhem Lauren, Evidence, Roc Marciano, and so many more.

The tracks play into each other like the similarly assembled Beach Boys' Smile, their collaborator Van Dyke Park's Song Cycle, or side B of Abbey Road. Not saying that Russian Roulette is the Beach Boys/Beatles of rap albums, but the idea that its DNA is equally rooted in the odyssey of late '60s psychedelia as it is in golden age boom bap stands. While many guest-filled, producer-penned albums can play like inconsistent mixtapes, this one's more focused than some releases by a single rapper.

Check it out for yourself by streaming Russian Roulette in its entirety over at SPIN. A few of its tracks are also streaming below...

Speaking of Rock the Bells (and Wu-Tang),

Between the end of Wu's set and the beginning of Slaughterhouse's, Method Man and Joe Budden were seen walking together in the parking lot. The two took their time quashing the beef.

When Slaughterhouse, which also includes Royce da 5'9", Joell Ortiz and Crooked I, took the stage, they publicly announced the end of the short-term feud.

"It will never be a beef with Wu-Tang clan," Royce said. He then revealed the convo between Meth and Budden, saying the situation was "squashed." [MTV]
