Speaking from the stage of the Beacon, James L. Dolan, the chairman of Madison Square Garden, said: "I told Gregg before, our apologies for last year. That won't happen again."The Allman Brothers will play Beacon Theater on March 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, 18 & 19, 2011Over a 20-year span that ended in 2009, the Allman Brothers Band played some 190 shows at the Beacon, more than any other act, returning annually in March for monthlong residencies that made the band synonymous with the theater.
But earlier this year the band lost its traditional booking to a Cirque du Soleil show, "Banana Shpeel," and had to hold its 2010 residency at the United Palace Theater. Meanwhile, "Banana Shpeel" delayed its official opening until May, and then closed quickly after receiving poor reviews.

In related news, Gregg Allman "will release his first solo record in 14 years on January 18, 2011 [via Rounder Records]. Called Low Country Blues for the coastal Georgia region Allman calls home, the record was produced by T Bone Burnett, recorded at his Village Recorder studio in Los Angeles and features Dr. John on piano, guitarist Doyle Bramhall II, and Burnett's brilliant go-to rhythm section: bassist Dennis Crouch and drummer Jay Bellerose."
Black Keys... (by James Carney)

In 2009, both halves of The Black Keys kept remarkably busy with their separate and joint projects. Drummer Patrick Carney released a record and toured with his new band Drummer, while singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach put out his own record (a solo album) and two tours.
Both members were also part of the BlackRoc record, which paired their instruments with rappers like Mos Def, Pharaoh Monch and Q-Tip.
They also found time to play shows as a band, one being their New Year's Eve show in Chicago opened by Kurt Vile.
In 2010, the band will be at the southern rock/blues/jam/funk-focused Wanee Music Festival (headlined by The Allman Brothers) in Florida this April. Full lineup (Sharon Jones, George Clinton, Widespread Panic and More) below. The Allman Brothers recently added some shows to their NYC run that happens even sooner, in March)
Black Keys will also be playing a ticketed show at NYC's Central Park Summerstage on Tuesday, July 27th. $35.00 Tickets go on sale Friday, February 5th at noon. Tinariwen was also just revealed as a band playing Summerstage this summer, though their show is probably free (thanks in part to the money raised by the ticketed shows like The Black Keys... and Pavement).
Videos, tour dates and the fest's lineup are below...

On Tuesday [January 5th] night the Allman band, whose annual routine of residencies at that Upper West Side theater once seemed as permanent as the bathroom-wall graffiti at CBGB, announced that when it came to New York in March, it would not appear at the Beacon, where it has played 190 shows over the past 20 years. The Cirque du Soleil show in question is called "Banana Shpeel," and the Times writes that its run will occupy the theater "January through June -- and possibly into August." Tickets are on sale for performances up until May 30th. That'll possibly prevent other bands (like Wilco if they wanted to) from playing shows during that time period too.Instead the band will perform at the United Palace Theater in Washington Heights, having lost its longtime Manhattan home to another group.
"Cirque du Soleil came and bought it out from under us," Gregg Allman, the band's singer and keyboard player, said in a telephone interview.
"It's a drag," Mr. Allman added. "But one monkey don't stop no show." [New York Times]
Allman Brothers Band shows will happen March 11-13, 15, 16, 18-20 at United Palace Theatre. More dates will be added if those sell out (they got up to 15 nights last year after postponing 15 in 2008). Tickets go on AmEx presale beginning Friday, January 8th at 10am. General sale starts Friday, January 15th at 10am.
