B52s

New wave vets The B-52's stay active, usually hitting the NYC-area at least a couple times a year, and they've announced two shows around here happening in 2015. They'll play Long Island on January 30 at The Space at Westbury and Westchester on January 31 at The Capitol Theatre. Tickets for Westbury and the Cap go on sale Friday (9/26) at noon. It's their only two announced dates at the moment.

Carnivores

Atlanta garage rockers Carnivores (who have collaborated with Black Lips' Cole Alexander and Deerhunter's Bradford Cox) were last in NYC on Halloween for a show at Shea Stadium, where in addition to playing their own material, they "dressed up as " (aka covered) The B-52s in honor of the occasion. The band has since taken their B-52s love to the studio to record their version of "Give Me Back My Man." They loosen up the stiff new wave of the original, making it more in line with Carnivores' own garagey material. It's a solid cover, and you can check it out for yourself, as it makes its premiere in this post.

As discussed, the B-52's are returning to the NYC area for a show on November 9 at Capitol Theatre in Port Chester (rescheduled from June). While they're in the area, they'll also be playing a show a couple days earlier in Brooklyn at Brooklyn Bowl (11/7), which actually sounds like the perfect place to see them in a lot of ways. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (8/2) at noon.

The two NYC-area dates are their only two currently scheduled North American shows. All upcoming dates (mostly in Europe) are listed, along with a video from their recent Roseland show, below...

B52s

New wave legends The B-52s were forced to cancel some dates due to Cindy Wilson's illness, including their NYC-area show that would have happened on June 6 at The Capitol Theatre. However, Cindy got well enough for the band to make it here for their co-headlining show at Roseland Ballroom with The Go-Gos on June 19. A picture from that show is above, and a video and both bands' setlists are below.

Now that Cindy is doing better, The B-52s have also announced that their Capitol Theatre show will be rescheduled for November 9. Tickets for that show are on sale now, and all tickets purchased for June 6 will be honored.

Updated dates are listed, along with the video and setlists, below...

B52s

The B-52s were supposed to bring their tour to the NYC-area for a show at The Capitol Theatre tonight (6/6). However, that show has been postponed to a later date due to the illness of B-52s member Cindy Wilson. According to BoweryPresents.com:

The B-52s regret to announce that they are unable to perform at tonight show due to principal band member Cindy Wilson having fallen ill. Cindy's illness is not life threatening but her doctor has ordered her to take immediate bedrest. In a statement the band said, "Our thoughts are with Cindy as we send her our love and best wishes for a speedy recovery. We sincerely regret any disappointment this has caused our fans and hope to be able to make it up to you soon!"

The Capitol Theatre and The B-52s are working to confirm a rescheduled date. All existing tickets will be honored for the new date, or refunds will be available at point of purchase.

Support at tonight's show was going to come from Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers, who cancelled tonight's Brooklyn Bowl show in order for Guns N' Roses to play the venue. They will still perform at Garcia's at The Capitol Theatre and admission for that show is totally free.

No word yet on whether or not Cindy's illness will affect the B-52s upcoming Roseland show with The Go-Gos (6/19). Tickets for that show are still on sale at the moment.

Updated dates (as they currently stand) are listed below...

After the English Beat shows, Squeeze will be hooking up with the B-52s in June and July as part of the B-52s' 35th anniversary tour. The B-52s also play their own show at Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, NJ on 8/8.

In other new wave news, Dexys Midnight Runners (the UK version of The Beat includes a former Dexys member), who originally reunited in 2003, are set to release their first album since 1985's Don't Stand Me Down. The new album (which is being released under the name Dexys) is called One Day I'm Going To Soar. Check out the single, "Nowhere Is Home," and a recent BBC interview/feature, below. The Dexys already have shows scheduled in Europe. "The performances will be made up of the entire new album {One Day Im Going To Soar}, in sequence, followed by a few Dexys favourites."
