The 2012 music lineup was announced today for Bumbershoot: Seattle's Music & Arts Festival, which is produced by non-profit arts organization One Reel and takes place over Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1-3, at Seattle Center. The 42-year-old urban festival stands on top nationally in its variety as it showcases both familiar and up-and-coming regional and national talent in many musical genres, as well as in comedy, theater, literary and visual arts, dance, film and children's programming.

Bumbershoot's Mainstage in KeyArena will feature two multi-act performances each day. Artists scheduled to perform there include groundbreaking alternative rock band Jane's Addiction, jazz legend Tony Bennett, electronic phenom Skrillex, a hip hop double bill with Mac Miller and Big Sean, M83, and AWOLNATION among others. Additional Mainstage acts will be announced in coming weeks.

Tickets are all-inclusive. All festival offerings, including Mainstage admission on a first-come, first-served basis (no separate pass required), and late-night electronic music curated by Decibel Festival for Bumbershoot After Dark, are included in the price of a single-day or 3-day ticket

The Greenhornes at Garage Fest 2010 (more by BBG)

The Greenhornes just finished up a tour with JEFF the Brotherhood, and have announced a few more shows this summer including the Rocks Off Concert Series with The A-Bones. If you're not familiar, that means both bands will be playing sets during a three-hour boat ride around NYC. It rules and will rock. Tickets are on sale now.

JEFF the Brotherhood will be back in NYC on tour in June. They play 285 Kent with a whole bunch of "special guests."

The Ettes

The Ettes, who didn't play with the Greenhornes last night in Memphis due to weather, and who will be touring with JEFF's friend Heavy Cream in August (dates TBA), have a new album on the way. Wicked Will will be releaed on 8/2 via Krian Music Group / Fond Object / Fontana. Listen to the first track, "Pendulum", below.

Speaking of Heavy Cream, they were added to the upcoming Japanther/Shellshag show at Music Hall of Williamsburg. They have some other shows coming up too.

The above photo may or may not be of Montreal's Uncle Bad Touch in their touring vehicle, though I'm leaning towards the "may not". But don't be surprised if you see said vehicle parked in front of Mercury Lounge TONIGHT (5/10), as the band will play the Manhattan venue with The Growlers. Tickets are still available for the late NYC show. The Growlers are on a much larger tour that also brings them to Maxwell's in Hoboken on Wednesday (5/11)

After the show Uncle Bad Touch will get back to the business of finishing new material for an upcoming full-length (label TBA) and a 7" on Infinity Cat, Jeff The Brotherhood's label... which is now also Warner Brothers' label, sort of. Infinity Cat honcho Robert Ellis Orrall writes...

Just to be super clear, Infinity Cat is still a completely independent record label, distributed by ADA for the upcoming JEFF The Brotherhood release We Are the Champions. Future Bro-hood releases will be under the Warner/ILG umbrella. As far as the rest of the roster is concerned, we will continue to act independently, and we hope to build on that relationship, one band at a time.

We are in our 9th year as a label, and the Greenhornes/JEFF tour split 7" is our 63rd release. We are grateful for the support the Nashville community has shown us, and we couldn't be more excited about the future.

Jeff The Brotherhood is currently on the road with The Greenhornes and if you happen to be on the West Coast, make sure and pick up their limited edition tour-only split 7" referenced above.

In June, JEFF will get on the road with Fucked Up for some dates. It remains to be seen as to whether a NYC date will emerge on that run (there's one in Philly), so meanwhile grab tickets for the show Fucked Up is playing with Dinosaur Jr and Off! at Terminal 5 in June.

The Greenhornes will kick off a North American tour in Dallas on 3/20. That tour returns to the NYC-area for two shows: 4/8 @ The Bell House in Brooklyn (no tickets yet), and 4/9 @ Maxwell's in Hoboken (tickets on sale soon). No Manhattan this time around, though their last NYC show was at Bowery Ballroom on 11/30 (with the Ettes).

The Greenhornes, who share members with the Jack Whige bands Dead Weather and The Raconteurs, released an album in November on Jack White's Third Man Records, and recorded a bunch of live video sessions around that time. After playing a free show at Mercury Lounge, Maxwell's, and ATP NY in the span of three days, The Greenhornes will circle back to NYC for an encore at Bowery Ballroom on 11/30 with Cory Chisel & The Wandering Sons The Ettes. Tickets go on sale Friday 10/8 at noon. The show is one of a few select US dates and the only East Coast date (thus far) for the band following a UK tour.

Those of you planning your New Years Eve can head out to Chicago. The band will be opening for the Black Keys at the Aragon Ballroom that night and on New Years Day.

Full tour dates for The Greenhornes are below, as well as a lost set of pics from ATP NY 2010, where the band played a mid-day set on ATP's third day at Kutchers. The band also played Scion Garage Fest 2010 in Lawrence Kansas over this past weekend. Vaudeville Villain was there and wrote, "The Greenhornes had just started their set. Never heard of them. They were incredible. Stripped down, pounding garage rock."

Ron Jeremy & new friend @ ATP NY Sunday night

How do you get out of a conversation with Ron Jeremy? It's 1:30 AM on Monday (Sunday night), my friends are talking to the porn legend, and all I can think about is rest. It's been a brutal weekend of fantastic performances, great conversation, contact highs, 30 packs of beer, fantastic people, not to mention great music. But by the end of Sunday (the final day of ATP NY 2010), I just needed some Zs.

After a day-opening set of psychedelia from White Hills on stage two (which I enjoyed though it didn't manage to give me the kick in the ass I needed), The Greenhornes held down my interest for what I caught of their set. The Detroit Cincinnati band's garage pop played to one of the biggest early day crowds that I had seen on all three days. Kurt Vile's garagey punk followed on the second stage, sounding much heavier live than I had anticipated.

Fucked Up was next on the main stage, so I made sure to secure a primo slot for the mayhem. Madman Pink Eyes, who sang 2/3 of the show from the crowd, did all of the following during his set in the Stardust Room: crushed a coke can like Stone Cold Steve Austin, sprinkled Cocoa Puffs on the crowd, smeared himself with Oreos, performed all of "Crusades" with a plastic bag on his head, laid down in the center of the crowd, instigated a group hug of 20-30 people, and took audience members on piggy back rides. After two days of festival madness, it was definitely the shot in the arm I needed. Vivian Girls, who followed them on the second stage, was a bit of a comedown, but then again who wouldn't be?

GZA's set was moved to later that night on stage two (which I would end up missing due to Altar), so his stage one slot was filled by comedian Hannibal Burress who had also performed Friday night. I missed his set and ended up catching Wooden Shjips' powerful psychedelic set on the second stage. There were many retro-leaning bands playing over the course of the weekend. My favorite sets in that category came from Dungen and The Black Angels. Powerful, trippy and fantastic.

With the lights down low, Hope Sandoval played xylophone and crooned with her enchanting voice to the Stardust Stage crowd. On any other occasion, I might have found the set mesmerizing, but at that moment another pick me up was needed and I surprisingly found that in Girls's sunny Elvis Costello brand of pop directly afterward. With all of the recent brutality (Fucked Up, Wooden Shjips, and in a much different way, um, Vivian Girls) it was a fun change to see the band run through tracks like "Laura" from their recent LP. Great set from this Cali crew.

T Model Ford

Of all the artists walking around Kutshers during ATP weekend, the two that seemingly had the most fans/people clamoring to meet them were Sunday's curator Jim Jarmusch, and T-Model Ford. It didn't hurt that T-Model was apt to take his guitar out and play anywhere with a little battery-powered amp. The bluesman finally got his time under the lights of the second stage on Sunday night though, and the adoration continued, with people cheering while he tuned (multiple times).

Raekwon took the stage a touch late with an introduction from Ron Jeremy, running through the classic Wu material: "Protect Ya Neck", "C.R.E.A.M.", "Ice Cream", set opener "Motherless Child", "House of Flying Daggers" and many more. Though I nerd out to the tracks and even ODB classic-that-felt-like-set-filler-in-a-Raekwon-show "Shimmy Shimmy Ya" on the Stardust Room system, the set felt phoned in. Not to sound insensitive, but is a few-minute shout out to your grandfather who is buried in Monticello really necessary? GZA, Kim Gordon, and Thurston Moore watched the set from the sides of the stage.

I missed GZA's rescheduled set completely on the second stage (because of Altar), but he reportedly delivered a freestyle-heavy set. The Wu-tang rep later showed up at The Deep End Bar to greet the legendary Kool Herc who was DJing late-night...

Partway into [Kool Herc's] set, in walked Wu-Tang Clan's GZA, who had played a sort-of aggressive set at the same time as Altar (I went back and forth between the two.) ...in the presence of Herc, he was nothing but reverent. He nonchalantly stepped behind the turntables and said hello. ...It was one of those rare moments where you felt like you were seeing something rare and historic. GZA grabbed the mic and talked about what a legend Kool Herc was and thanked him before leaving.-

After leaving Altar, I spent a good portion on my way out saying goodbyes to the many new friends I had made at ATP. The festival is more than a string of shows, a worn-down hotel, and a few too many beers; it's a community of like-minded and friendly people that I have not experienced anywhere else. ATP New York was tons of fun, and I spent a good portion of Sunday lamenting that my experience was almost over and I'd have to wait another year. But I'll definitely be there.

The Greenhornes 2007

After detours in The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather among other projects, The Greenhornes are back at it and will release their first LP of new material in eight years via Jack White's Third Man imprint. The record, entitled Four Stars, will be proceeded by select east coast dates that will include Mercury Lounge on 9/3 (free with RSVP) and Maxwell's on 9/4 with The Black Hollies (tickets) leading up to their appearance at ATP NY on 9/5 ("full" lineup).

A month later (on 10/2), The Greenhornes are confirmed for Scion Garage Fest 2010 in Lawrence, Kansas alongside a plethora of killer notables including The Oblivians (who recently played Knit), The Gories (who just played Bowery and toured with Oblivians), The Raveonettes (who are playing Bumbershoot), King Khan & The Shrines (who are playing Santos and Bell House), Best Coast (who just played the Seaport and like weed), Tyvek, Thee Oh Sees, Hunx & His Punx, and a ton of others.

Much like Scion Rock Fest, the show will take place across four venues and is FREE, but RSVP is required. Full lineup is below.
