Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan are playing Webster Hall in NYC on Wednesday, May 27th. Tickets go on sale Thursday, April 2nd at noon.
Their last album together, Sunday at Devil Dirt, was released in May 2008. Mark last played Webster Hall in March of 2008 with the Gutter Twins. Also last year, Belle & Sebastian's BBC Sessions double-album was released - a collection that features Campbell singing, and pictured on the disc's cover.

Mogwai

I'm still trying to properly wrap my mind around (and recover from) the amazing performances (and blazing sun) I was able to experience at Sled Island. It's hard to believe both the amount and range of wonderful music that was up for consumption over the course of four days, and last night's set from mainstage headliners Mogwai, shredding guitars with grace like only they can, followed by a flawless late-night club show by underrated Canadian folk rockers Rock Plaza Central, was the perfect send-off to a festival that defined itself on eclecticism and near unmitigated musical quality. [Beyond Robson]As you know, we've been covering the 2008 Sled Island Festival that went down recently in Calgary. In the name of finishing what we started, here are the rest of Rae's pics from day four of the festival (June 28, 2008)...

DOWNLOAD: Ed Harcourt - Revolution in the Heart (MP3)

Due to some scheduling conflicts, The Gutter Twins will be postponing and/or cancelling some of their upcoming U.S. dates in July. The seven shows from July 24th (Baltimore) to August 1 (Detroit) will not be taking place at this time. Unfortunately, this means that Ed Harcourt will not be playing any of those previously mentioned dates on the tour EXCEPT for the July 10th show at The Roxy in Los Angeles. For us lucky New Yorkers, Ed's added a show at Rehab (formerly Club Midway). One of those cancelled dates is the July 29th Warsaw show. All dates, and a video of Ed on Leno, below...

DOWNLOAD: Monotonix - Summers & Autumns (MP3 from the upcoming Body Language EP out April 22.)

Take Eugene Hutz (almost literally... a similar manic energy, voice, even looks to some degree, but with a more impressive 'stache) and dial him up a few notches, put him in front of an insane-o heavy garage punk two-piece with a blues bent, and you have Israeli madmen Monotonix. Comin' straight outta Tel Aviv, Monotonix have a new EP on the way (Apr.22 on Drag City) recorded by Tim Green (ex-Nation of Ulysses, current member of The Fucking Champs). And if "Summers & Autumns" (download above) & "Body Language" (streaming at their myspace) are any indication, Body Language is probably a killer.
For now though, I'll stick with what I know: there is alot of buzz about their live show. Flaming drum heads, hanging from the rafters, beer baths.... check out the mayhem for yourself in videos (below). Check out the pics Ryan took at their March Noise Pop show with The Gutter Twins (in this post).

Monotonix and their much talked about live show will swing into Union Hall tonight (April 7) with the colorful recent VICE-signees Dark Meat, as well at Cake Shop (again with Dark Meat) on the 20th, and Death By Audio on the 25th (a Todd P show). More pictures, the videos and full tour dates, below.......

Mark Lanegan @ Webster Hall, NYC - March 19, 2008 (Ryan Dombal)

After a pretty lame applause from the crowd, Greg Dulli emerged to the stage. Smoking his hundredth cigarette of the night, the Gutter Twins co-frontman quickly confronted the crowd as to why the rest of the band remained hidden in the shadows on the side of the stage. Saying something like "We walk off stage, 5 people clap, and we're supposed to come back out and play more songs," he criticized the crowd for their incredibly weak call for an encore. [NY press]The Gutter Twins played one of NYC's latest landmarked locations Wednesday night. They also played on TV.....

Like Ballad, the new album features Lanegan tackling lead vocals while Campbell handles the writing, production, and arrangements. [P4K]Currently Lanegan is on tour with Greg Dulli and they (The Gutter Twins) play Webster Hall in NYC tonight (March 19). Their last NYC show was at Bowery Ballroom. The Gutter Twins @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC - Feb 14, 2008 (Caryn Rose)

My odd thought about tonight was that this show was just - grown up. I haven't seen the lyrics and haven't lived with the songs enough, but this is not about Are you here to make par-tay or even the themes of loss and, well, loss that have hung over acres of Twilight Singers material. Don't get me wrong, this is still a collaboration between Dulli and Lanegan and it's not rainbows and puppies and roses, and it's plenty fuckin dark. But it was just at another level, and maybe because Mark's ass is also on that line, but I have never seen the band this whip-smart and sharp and just totally together, like Greg can put up one hand and conduct the band and they turn on a dime.
